Michael Jackson's doc's defending lawyer to become TV star?

London, Feb 20 : Ed Chernoff, the lawyer defending Michael Jackson's doctor Conrad Murray, is apparently being offered millions to become a TV star.

His work defending Murray, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter, has attracted a string of deals, reports the Daily Star.

He is so confident about making money from spin-offs that he's agreed to work the case for free.

Ed said: "If I walk out with my client at the end of the trial, it's going to have a tremendous impact on my practice."

Michael Jackson: Secret Business Genius?
Jan. 25 2011 - 7:44 pm
By ZACK O'MALLEY GREENBURG
SANTA MARIA, CA - FEBRUARY 24:

Michael Jackson: Getting down to business.

In 2010 Michael Jackson earned $275 million — more than Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Jay-Z combined — despite the fact that he was no longer alive.

Though much of that total can be attributed to the swell of nostalgia that boosted sales of all things Michael in the months following the King of Pop’s death, a sizable part is the product of his underrated business acumen.

To be sure, Jackson’s spending habits could put a Russian oligarch to shame. He blew the profits from sales of 750 million records on extravagances ranging from $10,000-a-night hotel stays to the construction and upkeep of his sprawling Neverland Ranch. Keeping money was not one of Jackson’s strong suits. But piling up stacks of it — and finding unusual ways to ensure that more would follow — was one of his many talents.

Perhaps the best move of Jackson’s financial career was one that had nothing to do with his own music. In 1985, he shelled out $47.5 million to buy a publishing catalog that included 250 Beatles songs. Ten years later Sony paid Jackson $90 million for half the rights, forming a joint venture called Sony/ATV.

Today, the Jackson estate and Sony share ownership of the catalog, which now boasts half a million songs including titles by Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Eminem and other artists. Insiders place the catalog’s value somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 billion, based on estimated proceeds of $50 million to $100 million per year. The estimate marks a 3,000% increase in value from the catalog’s initial purchase price — better than the 1,650% return on Class A shares of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway since 1990.

“You’re talking about the greatest catalog in existence,” Ryan Schinman, chief of Platinum Rye, the world’s largest buyer of music and talent for corporations, told me shortly after Jackson’s death. “When you have that many No. 1 hits in a catalog, you almost can’t put a price on it.”

One of Jackson’s best business habits was to keep shrewd advisers around him. Perhaps the best example is superstar entertainment attorney John Branca, who negotiated many lucrative deals for Jackson and has done a remarkable job with the singer’s estate thus far. Many praise Jackson for bringing in Quincy Jones to work on Thriller, but it was Branca who scored the industry-leading royalty rate that The Gloved One enjoyed at the time (nearly $2 per album sold), allowing him to reap untold profits from what turned out to be the best-selling album of all time.

Throughout his career, Jackson also sought the advice of other shrewd businessmen, including billionaires David Geffen and Ron Burkle. The latter urged Jackson to keep his stake in the Sony/ATV catalog at all costs, even when the singer was in dire financial trouble during the 2000s. The catalog’s value today is a testament to the wisdom of both Jackson and Burkle.

Another good move: Buying the Neverland Ranch for $20 million in 1987. The property is now estimated to be worth as much as $90 million. A bad move: Spending $35 million in improvements to the property, including a go-kart track, a zoo and a railway line large enough for a full-sized antique steam locomotive.

So how much of Jackson’s know-how was actually his own, and how much belonged to his advisers?

“I think it was a combination of both,” says entertainment attorney Donald David. “Predominantly it was his own business sense … I once sat and talked to him for over an hour and he just knew the music business front to back. And he had good instincts. He had really good instincts.”

The eccentric and often absent-minded demeanor that Jackson exuded gave little indication of the mind on the inside.

“He was not the kind of person people portrayed him to be,” David explains. “He would play the game and use that high squeaky voice. Underneath it all, he was a very intelligent, very savvy individual, one of the smartest artists I’ve ever dealt with.”

Unfortunately for Jackson, his spending habits vastly overwhelmed what financial shrewdness he possessed. If he’d been able to control his impulsive spending, he would have been a billionaire on the strength of the Sony/ATV catalog alone before he passed away. Instead, he died nearly half a billion dollars in debt.

Michael Jackson News / Signed Michael Jackson Cement Slab up for Auction

Signed Michael Jackson cement slab up for auction

LOS ANGELES | Thu Jan 27, 2011 7:54am IST

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - For the Michael Jackson collector with superhuman strength: a 375-pound (170 kg) slab of concrete featuring the pop star's hand and foot impressions along with his signature will go on the block in Los Angeles next month, its auctioneer said.

The item is dubbed the "Broken Heart Stone," said auction house Nate D. Sanders, because a surface crack runs through a heart design within Jackson's left palm print.

The online auction, to be held at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login, will end on Feb. 15.

The slab dates from 1984 when Jackson made the impression for a Las Vegas Walk of Fame project that never materialized. It was discovered in the Riviera Hotel basement in 2006 and raffled-off to a guest, who in turn sold it for an undisclosed sum to its current owner in 2009.

Coincidentally the consignor, Andy Wilson of Santa Maria, Calif., was an acquaintance of Jackson's, and bought it with the star's blessing.

Sanders told Reuters on Wednesday that the slab could sell for more than $100,000. His firm last month auctioned off another unorthodox piece of memorabilia, selling the rotting coffin of suspected John F. Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald for more than $87,000.

La Toya Raiding Michael's Corpse For a "Tell-All"!
By Michael Musto, Fri., Jan. 14 2011 @ 3:30PM

This June--just in time for the anniversary of her brother's death--bottom-feeding La Toya Jackson will release Starting Over, a tell-all book, big surprise.

Here's the plug for the book, and in parenthesis are wicked asides made either by posters on Datalounge.com or by myself:

"In this explosive tell-all, the sibling with the closest relationship to Michael (LOL) reveals...this intimate portrait of a beloved, yet deeply troubled, pop legend. (NOT AS TROUBLED AS LATOYA.)

"With eleven albums spanning three decades (ALL OF THEM FLOPS) and having earned public respect and affection for her triumph over an abusive relationship, La Toya is a beloved international star in her own right. (YOU'RE BIG IN JAPAN, RIGHT, LATOYA?).

"After some time out of the spotlight (NOT BY CHOICE), La Toya has recently completed her forthcoming album Startin' Over, which has been well received by critics and fans alike. (IT'S NOT EVEN OUT YET AND IT'S GOTTEN RAVES? CONGRATS, GIRL!)

"Her recent interview with Michael's chimp Bubbles lit up blogs and news channels worldwide with its heartbreakingly genuine sentiment. (YEAH, BUBBLES IGNORED HER AND LOOKED LIKE HE WANTED TO SPIT AS SHE BROKE DOWN CRYING IN A 'PRIVATE MOMENT' FOR THE CAMERA.)

"Now, in this fascinating memoir guaranteed to send shockwaves around the globe, La Toya Jackson exposes the Jackson family's deepest, darkest secrets." (DIDN'T SHE DO THAT ALREADY, BACK IN THE '90s?)

Puke!

Michael Jackson News / Jackson 5 set to team up with Cliff Richard
« on: January 13, 2011, 04:59:18 PM »

The Jackson 5 are set to team up with veteran singer Cliff Richard on a new album produced by David Gest.

"Cliff and members of the Jackson 5 could be one of the collaborations for the album. Hopefully they'll be recording something in the spring," contactmusic.com quoted a source as saying.

David was best friends with the group's late brother, Michael Jackson and has remained close to the family since singer's death in June 2009 from acute Propofol intoxication.

"David had one of those rare friendships with Michael where Michael could always be himself," said Tito.

"As teenagers and into their 20s they were inseparable and were always getting into trouble and playing jokes on everyone. David was the other brother by another mother to Michael and I.

"He was never afraid to stand up to Michael and tell him the truth, whether he wanted to hear it or not."

PHOTOS: Lisa Marie Presley Shows Off Her Twins

Lisa Marie Presley made a rare public outing with her twin daughters Friday, and RadarOnline.com has the pictures.

Looking more and more like her father Elvis, Lisa Marie was with her husband Michael Lockwood. LMP (as fans call her) and Michael each carried one of their daughters, Harper and Finley, as they arrived in Los Angeles.

Lockwood is Presley's fourth husband.  She and Michael will celebrate their fifth anniversary later this month.  Their adorable twins are two.

In October, Lisa Marie appeared on Oprah and spoke for the first time since his death about her marriage to Michael Jackson.  She said she was "angry" at the way he pushed her out of his life but nevertheless  regretted not trying to get through to him and help him in his final years.

Lisa Marie sold her long-time SoCal home last year and moved her family to England.

Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine stranded in Africa after US authorities refuse to renew his passport

MICHAEL Jackson’s brother Jermaine is stranded in Africa after US authorities refused to renew his passport.

The singer, who was in The Jackson 5 with younger brother Michael, was visiting Burkina Faso when his passport expired.

But the government says he cannot return to the US until he pays child support of nearly £60,000.

The 56-year-old has not given any maintenance to Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza, the mother of his two children, since 2008.

Jackson claims Oaziaza already earns more than him, while she also lives on the family estate in Encino, California.

The musician is appealing for a document from the US embassy to allow him to get home.

Jackson: 'Murray Will Get Off'   You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

MICHAEL JACKSON's father fears the King of Pop's doctor will be acquitted of manslaughter as the medic's preliminary hearing begins in Los Angeles.

Joe Jackson is appalled by suggestions his son took his own life and administered the anaesthetic that killed him in June 2009, but he worries that the claim by Dr. Conrad Murray's lawyers will be enough to plant doubt in the minds of the court officials.

The Jackson family patriarch tells X17.com his son had too much to live for to take his own life: "He had too much responsibility. He's a Jackson, he doesn't think like that."

And Jackson insists there's more to the tragedy than a simple case of a doctor making a mistake: "One month before he died he told (his mother) Katherine they were going to kill him for his publishing catalogue. He said they were going to kill him. Why would he kill himself?"

As for what he thinks will happen to Murray, Jackson tells the website, "They're going to get the doctor off."

The trial is expected to last two weeks, with both sides presenting strong cases for what they are trying to prove happened on the morning of 25 June, 2009.

Court proceedings began shortly after 9am local time on Tuesday (04Jan11). Murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter and the hearing is being held to determine if there is enough evidence to take the matter to trial. The doctor has pleaded not guilty.

Joe Jackson is expected to attend the hearing on Wednesday (05Jan11).

His wife Katherine and their children Tito, Jermaine and LaToya were present as Tuesday's hearing got underway.

Alberto Alvarez, the bodyguard who phoned emergency services after Jackson went into cardiac arrest on 25 June, 2009 is expected to take the stand on Tuesday, as is Jackson's former chief of staff Michael Amir and Faheem Muhammad, chief of security.

The employees are being represented by Carl Douglas, who was a member of O.J. Simpson's defence team and previously served as an attorney for Jackson in 1993.

A lonely Christmas For Michael Jackson
DateMonday, December 13, 2010 at 9:34AM

So here we are December 2010. How different times are from last year December 2009. It will be 18 months since Michael Jackson died and left us speechless. I am writing this for one reason and that is to get to the bottom of why this Christmas Michael Jackson's grave is empty. In December of 2009, pictures were released showing the King Of Pop’s grave adorn with Flowers, Christmas cards, a tree, stuffed animals beautifully drawn portraits and hundred of nick knacks sent by fans.

A year later, empty... So who is to blame? Is it Forest Lawn, or the Jackson family? This is the question we don't have an answer to, but need one. Walking around Forest lawn at Christmas time is almost festive. Family members and friends of those who have passed are not forgotten during the holiday season. In fact it is heartwarming to see so many graves decorated during the holiday season.

Well, that is until you get to Michael Jackson's resting place, where you will find it empty. A stark contrast to last year. It isn't because the fans aren't sending things because they are, but rather because of the new policy implemented by Forest Lawn last June. Nothing is brought into the mausoleum unless it is purchased at Forest Lawn. So who's rule is that?

Are we being deceived and is Michael being discriminated against? Not a single resident in Forest lawn is having their things turned away, except the King Of Pop. The fans have had to resort to bringing things or sending them only to have them left outside on the patio adjacent to Holly Terrace. Even then within a day or so things are being tossed in the trash. According to the Jackson's they have no room says Forest Lawn.

So what is the answer here? The current situation isn't working Michael's crypt area is being left empty and fans are having their efforts trashed. Was this the agreement that Michael Jackson was to never have anything left for him when the Jacksons agreed to bury him there? I doubt it or last year we wouldn't have seen his grave full from his adoring fans sending Michael their hearts. Forest Lawn says this was a Jackson decision but to be honest, we're not buying it. It is our opinion that Forest Lawn has made this decision with out consulting the Jacksons. It's hard to believe they would want Michael's grave left empty and forgotten.

So this holiday season we are asking that fans reach out to Forest lawn in the spirit of the holidays and ask them to fix this problem and allow Michael to receive all the wonderful gifts from people's hearts. We can't let Forest Lawn decide what they think is best for them, rather than Michael. Pease respond promptly. Each day that passes that Michael's area is empty is too many.

This is from Karen Faye (Michael's long time makeup artist).

"I have had many requests. Like music, our sense of smell activates our memories. Michael and I discovered many years ago (30) we shared a favorite scent. Those who were able to share the same space with Michael, BAL A VERSAILLES, by Jean Desprez, will remind you of him."

Neither Obsession or Joop were a favorite. They may have been a quick buy from his security guards because BAV was not always easy to find."
"
"I ordered it online. I bought many bottles for him...”

"Michael treated the bottles of this scent like gold. He was always so thrilled to have it. He loved the big fancy bottle, and he liked to carry the tiny little bottles in his pocket. Michael Bush wasn't always so pleased when they leaked in his pocket."

"He was wearing Black Orchid, but that was because it was easy to get. He switched immediately, when I found him BAV. He would ask me everyday if it had arrived after I told him I had ordered it."

"He was wearing BAV in the last weeks of his life."

"Michael and I shared the love of this scent before we even met. It was something we discovered about each other. It wasn't one of those perfumes you find at the department store, so I was always hunting for it for him. Michael Bush would search also. When we found a bottle it was like striking gold. Now with the internet, it makes it easier to track down, but back then it was a miracle to find!
The scent was created in 1962."

"in the video..it looks like ETERNITY." THIS VIDEO - Michael sprays himself w/ LOTS of perfume!!! Someone asked Karen about the perfume MJ was spraying on himself.

"There are many "notes" to BAV. the ones that I love and linger on me are the earthy ones, amber and vanilla."

"I bought a lot for Michael...I hope I left some for all of you."

"it is best to get the smallest bottle of perfume. Perfume smells different on everyone...and the eau de toilette spray bottles seem to leak and don't smell as good as the perfume."

"We never cared if a scent was made for a man or women. Michael didn't think it was fair we got all the good smells. LOL"

"if you should order it....get the smallest bottle of PERFUME not the eau de toilette. The perfume smells better."
