The first indication I have that I'm not bound for an average hotel room, comes when he mentions to me that this is Michael Jackson's preferred room. "He liked it so much he had some ideas on what we could do with the hotel."

Michael Jackson paid several visits to South Africa, even singing Happy Birthday to former president Nelson Mandela. He announced his HIStory world tour at the Lost Palace at Sun City in 1996, and toured South Africa in 1997.
Jackson was also close to former South African television star, Prudence Solomon, who married close friend of Jackson’s and the former chief executive of Sun City,  Gerry Inzerello. Jackson was best man at their wedding. Jackson’s elderly parents jetted into Cape Town to see their son and attend Inzerello’s wedding. At the time, Inzerlleo said: Ask Michael which is his favourite country, he’ll undoubtedly say South Africa. This place inspires him.”
Tributes from South Africans are pouring in. The Nelson Mandela Foundation has expressed its sorrow at his death. In a statement, the Foundation said:  ”The Nelson Mandela Foundation regrets the untimely passing of Michael Jackson. His loss will be felt by his fans worldwide.” Jackson met Mandela in 1999 and made a donation to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.  South African film producer Anant Singh said on he was “deeply saddened” by the death of  Jackson. “We are deeply saddened by the death of Michael Jackson. He was a unique and amazing entertainer who enthralled millions of fans throughout the world and will be mourned by all of us.”

Michael Jackson Seeks South Africa Hotel Stake

NEW YORK - Pop superstar Michael Jackson and his business partner are in talks to buy a $60 million stake in hotel and casino group Sun International South Africa Ltd., according to sources familiar with the situation.

Jackson and Detroit businessman Don Barden are seeking to buy a 28 percent investment being sold by major shareholder North West Development Corp. Ltd., said the sources, who declined to be identified. The pair has been searching since last year to invest in the booming hotel and casino business.

They have scouted properties in the U.S. Virgin Islands and held preliminary talks with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. last October to buy the Desert Inn resort in Las Vegas. They have considered other properties in Las Vegas, and also unsuccessfully tried to build a casino in Detroit.

One source said Barden was expected to fly to South Africa next week in hopes of completing the deal. Shares of Sun International, known as Sisa, rose sharply in South Africa on speculation about a potential deal with Jackson. Sisa declined comment. Jackson, Barden and North West could not be reached for comment.

Thank you for posting the articles Tink.  I've read those too.  Owning 28% in shares that he'd probably be sharing with Barden and owning something outright are two different things.  It was never reported that Michael ended up buying into the Palace and I don't think he did.  If you can find a historical report of the stock for that company you'll probably find that the shares went way up and then went down when Michael didn't buy in.   It was reported and there are hearings videos that Barden was trying to do a big deal in Detroit, but got shot down.

My parents friends went to South Africa sun City a little while back and they stayed at the Palace of the Lost City......they said it was "awesome"!! They had heard MJ owned it and were in awe...they had no idea he did anything other then music....they were very surprised and VERY impressed!!
