ControversyAccording to articles in the Los Angeles Times, Cedars-Sinai is under investigation for significant radiation overdoses of 206 patients during CT brain scans during an 18-month period.[10][11]"In recent years, Cedars-Sinai has been the site of other high-profile problems. In November 2007, the newborn twins of actor Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly, twice were given 1,000 times the intended dosage of the blood thinner heparin, endangering their lives. State regulators later fined the hospital $25,000 for safety lapses involving the Quaid twins and another child. The Quaids sued the hospital, settling the case for $750,000. In June, a former Cedars-Sinai employee was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing patient information to defraud insurance firms. Personal information from more than 1,000 patients was found during a search of the man's home."[11]State regulators had also found that Cedars-Sinai had placed the Quaid twins and others in immediate jeopardy by its improper handling of medication.[12]

REST IN PEACE MICHAEL JACKSON!! DIES AT AGE 50...Michael Jackson, was set to play 10 live concerts at the London O2 Arena in July. (Joel Ryan/Associated Press)Pop star Michael Jackson, who bridged the gap between black soul and white pop music, has died in Los Angeles, according to media reports. He was 50. Jackson suffered cardiac arrest at his home Thursday afternoon, and paramedics were unable to revive him. Hundreds of fans and media gathered outside Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after reports began circulating that he had been transferred there. His family were also reported to be on their way to the hospital. There had been recent reports that Jackson was in poor health, and his London concert series, billed as a farewell to London, was postponed by a few days. However, the concerts quickly sold out, a testament to the enduring appeal of the singer, known as the "King of Pop." Jackson left an indelible mark on pop music, largely on account of his 1980s hits such as Beat It and Billie Jean.
Full Statement from Cedars-SinaiOriginally posted Nov 20th 2007 7:26 PM PST by TMZ StaffStatement of Michael L. Langberg, MD Chief Medical Officer, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center:On November 18, three patients who were receiving intravenous medications as part of their treatment had their IV catheters flushed with a solution containing a higher concentration of heparin (a medication used to keep IV catheters from clotting) than normal protocol. As a result of a preventable error, the patients' IV catheters were flushed with heparin from vials containing a concentration of 10,000 units per milliliter instead of from vials containing a concentration of 10 units per milliliter. The error was identified by Cedars-Sinai staff, who immediately performed blood tests on the patients to measure blood clotting function. Four additional patients in the unit were tested as a precaution. The tests indicated that four of the seven patients had normal blood clotting function, and three had tests indicating prolonged blood clotting function. In one of the three patients, the clotting tests returned quickly to normal. The other two patients were given protamine sulfate, a drug that reverses the effects of heparin and helps restore blood clotting function to normal. Additional medical tests and clinical evaluation conducted on the two patients indicated no adverse effects from the higher concentration of heparin or from the temporary abnormal clotting function. Doctors continue to monitor the patients. I want to extend my deepest apologies to the families who were affected by this situation, and we will continue to work with them on any concerns or questions they may have. This was a preventable error, involving a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures, and there is no excuse for that to occur at Cedars-Sinai. Although it appears at this point that there was no harm to any patient, we take this situation very seriously. We are conducting a comprehensive investigation, cooperating fully with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services and will take all necessary steps to ensure that this never happens here again. "It was devastating to me," says Chugh, now associate director of the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles. He dedicated his career to solving the biggest mystery of heart disease, why many healthy people suddenly keel over and die. He runs a study that has tracked every sudden cardiac death in Portland, Ore. since 2002 to find some answers. "It's like a Rubik's cube," he says. "You have to put it together piece by piece."
