I just decided to look up April 18th as a day in history. Don't bash me for this post, I just thought it would be fun to think about. The following events occurred on April 18th as relates to show business, entertainment, history, and in a couple of cases, Michael.
April 18, 1950 = Kenny Ortega was born.
April 18, 1974 = James Brown received his first gold record for "The Payback" (lyrics are great - look them up).
April 18, 1984 = Michael Jackson underwent reconstructive surgery for scalp burns suffered weeks earlier while filming a Pepsi commercial.
April 18, 1985 = Aretha Franklin set the record for the longest span between #1 singles with RESPECT in 1967 and I KNEW YOU WERE WAITING FOR ME in 1985. (I thought the two titles were ironic
)
April 18, 1985 = The sequined "King of Show Business" Liberace broke his record for tickets sales at Radio City Music Hall.
April 18, 1996 = "Funny Thing Happened" opened in New York City at St. James Theater
April 18, 1946 = "Call Me Mister" opens in New York City
April 18, 1951= "Make A Wish" opens in New York City at Winter Garden
April 18, 1975 = John Lennon releases "Stand by Me."
April 18, 1930 = BBC Radio infamously announce there's no news on that day.
April 18, 1948 = Bing Crosby's "Now Is The Hour" tops the charts
April 18, 1964 = The Beatles "Can't Buy Me Love" tops the charts
April 18, 1972 = Michael Jackson's "Rockin' Robin" tops the charts
April 18, 1775 = Paul Revere began his famous ride warning "The British Are Coming."
April 18, 1738 = The Royal Academy of History opened in Madrid
April 18, 1783 = Fighting ceases in the American Revolution, 8 years to the day since it began
And lastly, the day before, on April 17th, two fun facts...
April 17, 1971 = "Joy to the World" by 3 Dog Night tops the charts
April 17, 1985 = The US Post Office releases it 22 cent LOVE stamp which means it's first day in circulation would be April 18th!
And for those who love the numbers - April 18th is the 108th day of the year. April 18, 2010, would be 7 days shy of the 10 month anniversary of Michael's "death" and the number 8 always represents "justice."
Anyway, please no bashing, just having a little fun....I'm not anticipating anything....
