I was thinking, maybe there was nothing to be been.... :?
I find it hard to believe  someone saw smth and not tell everybody else. he'd tell to a friend and so on and eventually it comes out to the rest of the world.  Maybe noone saw anything....how is this possible? Though I do remember an old post saying somebody went into the hospital as soon as they heard, but didn't see anything except saying there was some diversion going on when they were probably trying to get him out.

IIt's unbelievable  -from a normal standpoint-  nobody in that big hospital, no one single person, noticed what's happening there. It's hard to believe that day not even a curious person paid a little attention to the agitation that created at least at the entrance of the hospital if not more. We all  know that when an ambulance is coming to the emergency , with flashing lights and sounding sirens, nobody can ignore it totally and he/she casts at least a glance at what happens around...it's human nature to do that. And it was about Michael Jackson...bodyguards...police aso.
And this lack of any evidence speaks a lot to me.

I made a post about this in old MJHD too and this is what's been my biggest evidence to this date. I cannot for the love understand why nothing has been released, no statements, no gossip, not a word from hospital staff, nurses, ER doctors, neighbouring patients and visitors.

Believe me, if Michael was admitted into hospital, news would spread really fast. Think he was the only one worked on for over an hour in UCLA medical hospital? Not a chance, if they worked on him for an hour, news would spread, co-workers would tell each other Michael Jackson is in the hospital, the co-workers families would see the news on television and ask them whats happening. I can understand that staff are prohibited from talking, but lets look at Britney Spears, she was admitted to the same hospital and news and photos were leaked immediately after she was hospitalized. And neighbouring patients or people waiting in the ER would see or hear something.

My biggest puzzle is the lack of statements and gossip, even the cleaning people could have made some extra money from spreading some true or false stories of Michael. Infact, they could have made a fortune on a cellphone pic or something. But no one saw or heard anything, probably because he wasnt even in there.

And why did JERMAINE JACKSON announce his death at a pressconference? I thought it was the chief doctors job to do, an authority figure, police officer, coroner, nurse, cardiologist, surgeon, you name it. And Jermaine got the honor to announce the death? I thought this day and age such hard news would be delivered by someone more proffecional and someone with an education in medicine and not a family member. Since when did they start letting families announce possible murder cases?

Like seriously, it would have sounded more reliable if it was the Jackson family lawyer who announced the news. But Jermaine? Why not Blanket?

[/ Quote]

I agree to 100 prozent with them

What is real with the fire alarm? Do we know whether this was is? Time?

I agree with you 100%. I remember when Brittany Spears was taken to UCLA, the news spread so quick that paparazzi's were following the ambulance that she was in to the hospital ON FOOT! I didn't see that with MJ! Not one paparazzi followed the ambulance to the hospital? Strange...

I find it very odd that none that worked was at the hospital has any stories to tell to the media?  They could make a fortune!! " I was at UCLA the day Michael Jackson died and here's what I saw", didn't see any headlines like that!! And the fact that JERMAINE JACKSON * TOHME TOHME were the ones to announce his death is  very odd. :?  Like you said, chief doctor, police, etc would be the one to announce the death of a celebrity, not their family!! When Anna Nicole Smith died, officials made the announcement to the public, not her family!

I would think by now we would've herd stories from workers, patients, visitors, etc of what happened the day Michael "died". I find it suspicious that we haven't herd one story. It makes me wonder if Michael was ever at UCLA that day? Maybe they brought a body double in to make things believable?  Maybe Michael was taken to the hospital but was rushed out after they arrived? I don't know what to think. If it turns out that Michael died die that day, I think the family has a lot of explaining to do!!

Yes this is the only one however She didnt see anything its all about the helicopters and stuff .. She wasnt even in the same building!!!
Not an eyewitnees......And not even confirmed that it was Jermaine just general "I heard this" so its all rumours...
FIND ME SOMEONE WHO SAW SOMETHING!!!!!!! NOT SOMEONE THAT WAS NOT EVEN IN THE SAME BUILDING..

In fact, after the little fire alarm, we found out that one of the nurses (the one who takes my vitals) was approached by a young black man as we were waiting for the all clear. He told her his name was Jermaine Jackson, Jr. and he needed help finding the entrance to the hospital, so she escorted him. She was just a few feet away, and we missed it! Once we got the "all clear", we went back in to finish my appointment. At that point, a lot of the nursing staff was confirming that Michael Jackson had indeed passed away. Not sure if we knew ahead of everyone else, but it was still shocking news to say the least. The good news about the rest of my appointment: I am still cancer free, and I no longer need to have blood draws at home! Yay!

You are right. This silence doesn't make sense. I remember that when I heard the news I thought that someone of the hospital staff would make a statement - but there was none. I also thought that Alvarez and even dr. Murray were going to be interviewed or make some kind of statement, as they were with MJ when he supposedly died - but no... key people didn't say a word.

Noone confirmed he was admitted to the hospital and I read on MHJD the ucla statement was something like:" It has been reported by the Jackson family that MJ died here on the 25th of June"
They don't want to take any responsibilty.
Why?
Because he is not dead  ;)

I know his death certificate was never signed but if he was infact treated in the hospital for more than one hour his records would be found in archives and if anyone in the staff wanted to make themselves a millionaire and never have to work in their life, they could have leaked the info out, any type of paper that has his name and date of birth on, but nothing has been leaked. Even if they risk getting fired, Im sure they'd take the opportunity. And not even one paper with his name and the hospitals name have come out.

If that UCLA statement is a fact then THAT is my 100%er right there!!

I'm a nurse and I know that if a big star died in our care the CONSULTANT caring for that patient and the press officer would do a statement about the death. No WAY would it be phrased like that. I have never heard of anything so dodgy in my life guys.

I'm telling you if thats a fact, HE IS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, there is my WTF. Not even a proper statement confirming that he was admitted to the hospital. They didnt even have to say he died at the hospital, they only needed to say he was admitted and they cant even say that? The hospital has only released statements THROUGH the Jackson family because if they were to release false statements on their own account they would definitely get fired. They all made sure nothing they did was illigal.

Also.. i dont understand the quotes from you guys saying that there was no press attention, or fans swarming the hospital at the time.
THEY DID!  See the video... stupid fans, i agree.. but they were there.

Just a rant... if MJ was there and was sick and being treated, why the hell would you want to "storm the hospital" and disturb life saving treatment?  So stupid and disrespectful and besides from that, not nice for all the other sick people in the hospital.

It depends.. if Dr Murray had insisted and he was still doing the "pretend" CPR they may have taken him as a precaution and to cover their own backs against allegations.
I have heard a story that the paramedics didnt want to take him as they saw he was already dead but Dr Murray forced them to take him.. then of course Dr Murray famously disappeared from the hospital.

see link:  http://celebrifi.com/gossip/Michael-Jac ... 78448.html

What i would question in that link is the quote that the paramedics didnt recognise MJ for over ten minutes as he looked like a "sickly old man".  The pictures from the ambulance clearly look like MJ... but then again we are all agreed they were photoshopped.

Understand these statements none says MJ became in the hospital reanimated . other he was since hours deadly .... and other he Dying in the clinic.
but on the Ambulance picture his complexion farbend looks, I accept if somebody in the unconsciousness falls the person is pale and gray

In addition, one sees clearly vene stand out on his forehead.

Then thus unconsciousness or Lately the patient has another sight

yeah I think though that even if nothing spectacular happened in the hospital and it was just a normal day of bringing in patients, normal emergencies, etc. people who were in the hospital on that day would have spoken and said oh yeah i was in the hospital that day. i didnt see Mj but i was there. i mean people wanna get a taste of that limelight even if they dont have anything interesting to say. I could be wrong, of course but yeah it is VERY weird that no one has come forward to say anything

only thing we can do i guess is research all the news coming from that day but i seriously dread going back to that day.    even if Michael is alive that day was horrible. I remember I was eating tacos after i heard the news and now i cant eat them again. brings back bad feelings. dont mean to sound silly im really serious.

They don't want to take any responsibilty.
Why?
Because he is not dead  ;)

Or because he was already dead at his home and murdered by Dr Murray??  He didnt die at the hospital but died at home.. thats why no-one wanted to take responsibility?

(sorry .. playing Devils advocate again but things have to make sense in my head)

My mother-in-law died in her home a few years ago and my father-in-law called 911 as soon as he found her(He was gone to the dentist) and an ambulance was sent ,of course, but also the police showed up...When poeple die at home, the police suppose to be their,I think!...in Michael case,I didn't heard anything about the police beeing there on that day so...

Hmm... Maybe everything was filmed (staged) long before... and sent to TMZ on June 25-26th... Therefore, noone saw the ambulance on that day, no paparazzis, no followers, no stalkers...
No Michael at the hospital...

Weird article here...

The person not breathing was transported to UCLA Medical Center and remains there." He was taken to UCLA Medical Center just a few minutes away from the home.

"The call came in because a person was not breathing," said an LAFD official.

Why not just say Michael!!!!

And then the updates part is really fishy
UPDATES
3:20 p.m.: LA Times says Michael has been pronounced dead, sources confirm. KTLA emphasizes that hospital sources have not officially announced this to the press, but says the information comes from "multiple sources," including the LA Times.
3:10 p.m.: LA Times says he's in a coma, per a law enforcement source.
2:40 p.m.: TMZ reports that Michael Jackson has died, but doesn't cite any sources for that information.

This is the 'official' UCLA statement in from their newsroom - nothing else.

"Statement on the death of Michael Jackson at UCLA Medical Center

The family of Michael Jackson made this brief statement available on June 25 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center:

The legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 2:26 p.m.  It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home.  However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known.

His personal physician, who was with him at the time, attempted to resuscitate Jackson, as did paramedics who transported him to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.  Upon arriving at the hospital at approximately 1:14 p.m., a team of doctors, including emergency physicians and cardiologists, attempted to resuscitate him for a period of more than one hour but were unsuccessful.

Jackson's family requests that the media respect their privacy during this tragic period of time. "

http://www.uclahealth.org/body.cfm?id=4 ... l&ref=1236

There was another blog entry, where they said "Michael Jackson died on June, 25th.. according to the Jackson family's statement....blabla"
That was weird, and I can't find it anymore.
I'm German and I looked up the word "according" - so my dictionary tells me, it also means "in conformance with", what would just tell me - the statement states the actual facts. What do you native speakers say about that?

Funny, the only other blog about "Jackson" is about a former staff Ms. Jackson, who violated HIPPA by selling celebrity's infos to tabloids and was fired.

But we had another eye witness report! From that cleansing woman at UCLA. And she saw Michael running around and being protected by many people. :-D Where's that one?

Yes indeed, police do come when a person dies in their house, in Canada anyway. So I am left wondering between 2 situations.

1. All this was pre-taped playing along with TMZ and the ambulance monitor we are shown is meant to look like it's an actual 911 response. If they can get one of those to film a movie I am sure they can get their hands on one for this purpose as well. Then on June 25th, TMZ put everything in motion and started the ball rolling and the rest of the media followed their lead. At the same time all the other "actors" in this make believe events of the day went down to UCLA and spread the rumor and that is how the scene at the UCLA was created and that is why it looks so real.

2. All this actually happened but Michael didn't die. But no, the more I think about it the more I have to come up with excuses to justify numerous things for this theory to stand and that shouldn't be. When something is REAL there are never so many questions being raised and justifications/proof needing to be brought to convince people it happened. But then again, maybe Michael was in a coma and his family decided that was it for him, that they were going to tell the world Michael had died and if he recovered they wanted him to live out of the public eye, live a peaceful normal life.  But no, that just dont sound right either.

Another thing, people wouldn't have to call up media to sell them their stories about their account for that day. You can be sure that they would have reporters posted at the exits of the hopital asking each person going out those doors for their account of events, wanting to know if they seen or heard anything. Not just follow the Jacksons around along with a few close people to MJ, they would also want insight from people who have nothing to hide or cover up and would just be honest in their accounts. IMO :|

OK does anyone know anyone or have a family member working for UCLA? Maybe that person can research the records. You know how we can visually see MJ's UNSIGNED death certificate online? Also his will? Maybe there is some kind of way we can get a hold of admission records from UCLA! IT would be easier if we had an inside source. ALso...can someone research the standards for announcing a death. I know and we all know how death announcements are usually made but can someone upload visual documentation of this standard practice  of announcing someones death. (Can we see something stating the standard procedure for announcing someones death , even a celebrity?) this document would back us up. We definitley need to research the UCLA Staff a bit more as well as MJ's employees that were fired!! Any of them came forward yet? I think UCLA and the staff are key clues in the hoax and would provide much info for us@@@ 8-)  8-)

This link

refers us to this link
http://www.calhospital.org/sites/chadoc ... _Guide.pdf

regarding the California Hospitals Guide to Release of Patient Information to the Media.  You should link to this pdf file to read the entire Guide for yourself.

Under "General Guidelines" it says that according to HIPPA they can give out information on a patient only if the inquiry specifically contains the patient's name.  If this means the inquiry must contain the person's specific legal name, perhaps this is why the hospital itself did not issue a statement, if the inquiry was for someone named "Michael Jackson", or "Michael Joseph Jackson" not named "Michael Joe Jackson".  When Jermaine issues the "death" statement, he says "My brother, Michael Jackson, the King of Pop"

On page 3 it discusses the "Death of a Patient"
- no information may be released unless the inquiry contains the patient's name
- with this inquiry, the hospital may respond with a "one-word" description of the condition of the patient
- patient's death is not routinely announced by the "hospital" but by the patient's physician or the coroner
- "Additional information about a patient's death, including the date, time and cause of death should  not be released without written authorization from a legal representative of the deceased. (Was Jermaine or Tohme a "legal" representative?) Again, this information typically comes from a patient's physician, not the hospital." (and not from their brother)

IMO, he does not even mention "Michael Jackson" or why they are having the press conference.  He mentions Jermaine's (Mr. Jackson's) friend Tohme, and Jermaine, but does not refer to "Michael".  He says "Okay, ah, good evening, good evening, my name's Amir Dan Rubin, I'm the chief operating officer of the UCLA hospital system.  I'd first like to introduce a, uh, personal friend of Mr. Jackson, Dr. Tohme, who will make a brief statement, um, and then, uh,  we'd like to bring up Mr. Jermaine (pause) Jackson (to me, this refers back to the first time he said "Mr. Jackson") So, technically, it seems that UCLA is only introducing Tohme and Jermaine.

a few thoughts i've just had reading through all this is..

*if michael was not there then there's nothing to talk about!!

*if he was there an didn't die, then saying he did would be lying

*if they said he was there and he did die, then the family could sue them for talking about it in either case due to confidentiality, except visitors and patients.. dunno how that would work!!

*the media would stalk them to death an so would fanatic fans to get every single detail out of them..

still strange that there is not a bad seed in the employee's definatly after 15mins of fame!! irrelevant of them losing there job.. etc!!

very strange!! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OK guys? I understand the part about HIPPA and the hospital when I read through the procedures of death or illness announcement I am kinda confused on the part where it states that only from authorization from the patient's legal representative may any other information such as time, and cause of death be released. But it does say NORMALLY IT IS THE PATIENT"S PHYSICIAN OR CORONER who does this. OK so does Thome authorize Jermaine? This My friends I feel that we need to study that booklet a little harder. I am kinda confused because I still don't understand what gave Jermaine the authority to announce MJ's death? I know he is his brother and all but.......it is just wayyyy off. I mean where were the physician or coroner or both? Surley they were present right? Why didn't the family just allow them to do their jobs?  :x  OK we are going to get this. Let's research and read through this documentation very carefully and see how it applies to MJ's death announcement ok? Jermaine ? and Thome? WTH? The booklet keeps saying NOrmally it is physician or coroner? Maybe someone can call and ask can a family member be allowed to announce the death? (I mean it's not illegal for a family member to do it right> WHy would a family member need authorization from the patients legal representative if it is their loved one? Ya follow me? HELLLLLLP! PLEASE!!!!

VERY GOOD POINT! There was no police there  :)

I was going to mention the same thing.   A police car always accompanies an ambulance.  Also, in one of the "Final Days" videos, a Fire Department official stated that, I believe, 2 ambulances and 3 fire trucks were dispatched.  Why would fire trucks be dispatched?  There was no mention of fire.  It is not customary for fire trucks to accompany ambulances unless there is a potential for fire.  I found that odd.

Actually, the fire department is almost always dispatched first in a 911 call because they can usually get there the fastest since there is normally a fire station in every neighbourhood.  They are equipped with paramedics just as an ambulance unit is.  I assume the police weren't called because no one was reported dead at the time.

Anyway, check out this TMZ article on Tiger Woods... http://www.tmz.com/2009/12/08/tiger-woo ... -overdose/ The hospital staff doesn't seem to have a problem leaking details about his OD.  It says the whole 5th floor was shut down, and they even released his aliases.  I know it's a different hospital, but this is what we're used to hearing when a major celebrity is taken to the hospital.  And nothing about MJ..not one tiny detail?

Why isn't anyone coming forward either saying "ye i worked that day and MJ wasn't in the hospital"? This one confuses me more?

But i guess the people who could (would) have REALLY seen him wouldn't have been a lot. Therefore not a lot to keep quiet.?

Yeah I've been thinking the exact same thing for a little while now. No one that was working their that day has come forward saying anything like that either.  Like you, that confuses me too :)

If he was there, why is no one talking?. And if he wasn't there, why is no one talking?  Same thing goes for Murray. No one in his past is talking or selling a story. No family members or friends from "This is It" dancers/production crew/props etc talkin or selling stories either!!!!  Does nobody have nothing to sell? You could probably retire on the money you'd make from one of these stories.  Thing is, nobody is even making up stories and selling those!  Whoever said 'tabloid' news had to be truthful?

The silence is deafening and abnormal. Greed should of got the better of someone by now!

I read somewhere that the UCLA patients had to sign a confidentiality agreement and not say anything about what happened that day. If I find where I read it, I copy you here.
Yet it seems strange that there is this silence, with or without agreement of confidentiality, as is Michael Jackson and press will want to know what happened that day there ... morbid curiosity.
And it seems strange, do sign such things ill patients in a hospital. Do they have something to hide? ;)

HELLLLLLP! PLEASE!!!!

Im going to go out on a limb and give my opinion as to why Jerkmaine announced the death and NOT an official person (doctor, coroner etc)
It is probably because since its not a real death that the actual doctors or coroner or anyone else that is of any rank did not or simply COULD NOT jeapordize their career's by announcing a death that never happened. Either they werent allowed to by law or they just didnt want to do something so unethical. Know what I mean? They didnt want to risk their credibility as a professional.
I dont know if this is the case or not but it seems this would be the reason. And WHY Jerkmaine? Why not his parents if anyone?
Maybe its because Jerkmaine wanted to steal the spotlight and try to get his face seen by every known human on the planet, which I wouldnt doubt.

But Im guessing its because of my reasons above in bold.

Is it normal for hospital staff to sign confidentiality statements (wheather patients are famous or not) Is this normal procedure? Yes, Yes, Yes, extremley odd that nothing has came out about this>> very odd indeed. I know this is  a reallllly dumb question. But is there any way we could find out exactly what patients were admitted on June 25th? Or would u have to be an employee or something? I know employees have some type of computer access to this info. I am sure hospital has a list of patients admitted that day, but I am sure this would be hard for us to get our hands on .... unless someone knows someone that works there? That could pull it for us? (naaahh might get in trouble!) ;)  ;)

If MJ was there, they could have been made to sign something making them keep their mouth's shut. But Its agaainst the law for any hospital staff to gossip about patients. My neighbor is a nurse and my mother was in getting surgery on her shoulder and unless my mom gave permission for the nurse or doctors to tell me everything...they cant tell me anything...even though its my mother.

I agree because I always thought doctors had to be the one annouce it and not anyone else. So, that also makes me think something's up.  Of course, many people didn't pay much attention to it accept the ones who were like us.

I agree with your opinion that this is why Jermaine made the announcement.  Because once the announcement was made, and it included the "time of death", then UCLA could put it on its press site and even though the media kept saying the announcement was "from UCLA", the announcement was technically from Jermaine Jackson, who just happened to be at UCLA when HE made the announcement.  So to anyone that is reading about it, it looks like the source of the information is UCLA.  But legally UCLA did NOT make the announcement, and the way this is worded on their site makes that clear.

Notice how this is titled "Statement on the death of Michael Jackson at UCLA Medical Center"
By UCLA Newsroom June 25, 2009
The family of Michael Jackson made this brief statement available on June 25 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center:

The legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 2:26 p.m. It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home. However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known.

(And it looks like the video is back up on the official UCLA site today)

Also, in this video where the coroner spokesperson is talking about the autopsy report, if you forward the video to 6:23 and listen until 6:43, someone is asking him about the time of death, and he says "the time of death will remain what it was in the hospital emergency room pronounced by a physician"
I know that it is permissible for the hospital to give this kind of information directly to the coroner's office, according to HIPPA, but if this was true, then why did this same physician not make the official announcement of "death" at the press conference, or at least (as I have seen done in other similar situations) come out and stand with the family member while the family member made the announcement.  Jermaine talked about all these emergency room doctors "a team of doctors, including emergency physicians and cardiologists, attempted to resuscitate him for a period of more than one hour", but none of them were available to come out and make the announcement or stand by as a representative of the hospital while he made the announcement?

It seems that when the coroner spokesperson talks about the time of "death", he could still be just going from UCLA's press release of the statement by Jermaine, that said the time of death and mentions that a number of physicians were working on MJ in the emergency room.

same here in the UK even in care homes!! if the person wasn't ill (terminally ill or already on deaths door) an they suddenly die for whatever reason its a suspicious death and the police are called to check there is NO FOUL PLAY ETC.. they are definatly a priority or you would get into serious trouble as its a suspicious death!! they need records of events leading up to it etc!!

Yes,the hospital staff would have put it together by now,but that would not give them the right to release the information,I think!I'm talking about the visitors(all the pepoel that are not in the staff)But either way,if he was there or not...nothing leaks and that is odd to me ;)

Btw, does anyone know anything about Dr. R. Cooper?  She is the doctor that supposedly pronounced MJ's death, but I can't find a thing about her, not unlike Dr. Murray.  :?

This is what I dont like. I remember mentioning this being a hoax to a bunch of grieving-fans and they all jumped on me saying there was infact a doctor who pronounced him dead but where did we ever hear that? I never saw a transcript, I never saw a statement, I never heard audio or saw video. There is no proof that backs up these claims. Grieving fans who try and convince themselves this is not a hoax should open their eyes, we still 6 months later do not have any solid confirmation from the UCLA hospital. And articles that dont support proper sources I will refuse to believe in. I want to see this doctors face, hear that doctor make an announcement like Jermaine did, NOT hear Jermaine! Their arguments are invalid. I am not convinced just because some doctor claims to have announced his death. Where is that doctor? Where is the official statement? There is none.

None at all...it is the strangest thing ever.  They had a press conference for Tiger Woods mother-in-law today and she just had some stomach pain.  This is the most famous man in the world that supposedly died and no official has come forward?  I just can't believe no one from that hospital has leaked something for money by now, confidentiality agreement or not.

Did I read that article wrong, or are they saying that Jermaine's press conference video was edited?  He said Dr. Tohme was MJ's personal doctor and was with him when he "died", not Murray.

Btw, does anyone know anything about Dr. R. Cooper?  She is the doctor that supposedly pronounced MJ's death, but I can't find a thing about her, not unlike Dr. Murray.  :?

This may be her: http://www.uclahealth.org/body.cfm?id=4 ... &ref=25337

Dr. R. Cooper is in charge of the Emergency department at UCLA, and this doctor has Emergency Medicine as their specialty. I'm still digging for more info though.

I did saw a video last week in YT - can´t find it anymore - showing some doctor or coroner presumably, talking about Micahels "arriving" and autopsy. How he was moved in, where he was placed "to wait", where were others and where was autopsy taken place.... etc. He described everything pretty detailed but I just didn´t want to look and hear about it, it made me sad.I´m wondering that no one here haven´t seen it :?:

None at all...it is the strangest thing ever.  They had a press conference for Tiger Woods mother-in-law today and she just had some stomach pain.  This is the most famous man in the world that supposedly died and no official has come forward?  I just can't believe no one from that hospital has leaked something for money by now, confidentiality agreement or not.

Did I read that article wrong, or are they saying that Jermaine's press conference video was edited?  He said Dr. Tohme was MJ's personal doctor and was with him when he "died", not Murray.

I know. And by the way who has a pressconference for someone hospitalized for stomach pains? She wasnt even severily ill, she left the hospital 11 hours later. MICHAEL DIED and no one exept for Jermaine announced it to the public. Its really unproffecional.

Even now, I don't recall a doctor even being interviewed about it. Am I right or wrong? Because I sure didn't remember seeing it.
You are right. I remember that when I heard the news I was expecting some doctor to talk to the reporters, but I didn't see any doctor being interviewed. I also thought that Dr Murray was going to be interviewed, and I found it very strange when they said he had disappeared and refused to sign the DC.

Accoding to this article, the UCLA policy on filming inside the hospital had been toughened in March 2008:

Quote
By Charles Ornstein
Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
March 18, 2008

UCLA's neuropsychiatric hospital has banned all cellphones and laptop
computers after a patient posted group photos of other patients on a
social networking website, officials confirmed Monday.

Dr. Thomas Strouse, medical director of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric
Hospital, said in a statement that the decision was part of "UCLA Health
System's ongoing efforts to enhance patient privacy and confidentiality
in compliance with California's patient rights law."

Separately, The Times reported last week that UCLA was taking steps to
fire at least 13 workers and had suspended six others for
inappropriately snooping in the electronic medical records of pop star
Britney Spears while she was a patient in the neuropsychiatric hospital.
In addition, six doctors were being disciplined. (Those slated to be
fired did not look at records from Spears' psychiatric stay but rather
from her prior visits to UCLA.)

Spears was not featured in the photos posted online.

UCLA spokeswoman Dale Tate said the hospital became aware of the posted
photos coincidentally from a nurse's family member. The patients
apparently all gave their consent to be photographed, Tate said.

"I was concerned about the potential covert use of such cameras, without
the consent of those being photographed, or under circumstances where
someone's agreement to be photographed might not be well-reasoned or
fully competent," Strouse said in the statement.

Patients continue to have access to conventional telephones in the
hospital, and Strouse said their ability to keep in touch with family
and friends should not be affected.

In a March 3 memo announcing the ban, Strouse wrote that he did not want
to ask staff members to check whether cellphones or laptops had cameras,
so he decided to ban them all.

Other hospitals have banned cellphone cameras as well. Rady Children's
Hospital in San Diego forbade employees from carrying cellphones in
patient-care areas after investigators found images of children, taken
at the hospital, on a respiratory therapist's computer and cellphone.
The therapist later pleaded guilty to child molestation and exhibiting a
minor in pornography. Visitors can have cellphones, but "if they're
using the camera feature on their cellphones, they're only allowed to
take pictures of their child and nobody else," hospital spokesman Ben
Metcalf said.

Officials at the California Hospital Assn. said they are hearing more
and more hospitals express concern over how to deal with cellphone
cameras. "There's been a heightened awareness of the problem for the
past year or two," said Lois Richardson, the group's vice president and
legal counsel. "However, I haven't seen any hospitals that have been
able to come up with a good, workable tactical solution to the problem."

So, this could explain why no pictures were taken inside the hospital, provided cameras were banned. The lack of eye-witness reports may indeed signify there was nothing to be seen on that day and yet no pictures or videos can back this info. How convenient. Perhaps that was the reason this particular hospital was chosen. MJ moved to Holmby Hills in December 2008, so after the new policy'd been applied. I also found it interesting to read how well UCLA managed the media and fan frenzy outside the hospital that day. Here's the link to the article below, it's very impressive, seems they've thought of everything in such a short time...  :?  It's quite obvious that any large hospital has a plan for in emergency situation, just looks like UCLA was more prepared than any other hospital would be...

Did anyone read the article about UCLA's "good performance"?

What really caught my attention was where Capt John Adams from UCLA said a reporter tried to get in via an underground elevator (from parking) directly to the emergency room. So this could have been a way for MJ to get out? He also said they made sure the reporter/s didn't get access to the secure area.

Maybe I'm reading to much into this?

Somebody should contact this guy, noted in the article:
Phil Hampton, assistant director of UCLA's Office of Media Relations

And ask him why hospital staff did not make the formal, official announcement at the press conference that day, instead of Jermaine. Perhaps he could clarify their policy on that?? It'd be interesting to know what they say.

Yes, I thought it was interesting in the article where it says

"We all did our best to accommodate an unprecedented volume of reporters on campus due to the extraordinary level of interest in Michael Jackson's death," said Phil Hampton, assistant director of UCLA's Office of Media Relations.

Jackson's brother Jermaine confirmed the news already being reported. "The legendary King of Pop, Michael Jackson, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 2:26 p.m. It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home," he said. "A team of [UCLA] doctors, including emergency physicians and cardiologists, attempted to resuscitate him for a period of more than one hour but were unsuccessful."

Again, UCLA distances themselves from actually admitting that Michael Jackson was pronounced "dead" by one of their doctors in the emergency room at UCLA.    They say there was an "extraordinary level of interest in Michael Jackson's death" without saying that he is dead.  They leave it to Jermaine to confirm the news ALREADY BEING REPORTED! That sounds like a hoax of a hoax to me!!

I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder! According to this article, UCLA really dropped the ball in their response to all that happened that day...

http://www.tellem.com/id86.html

Michael Jackson UCLA Screw Up
UCLA Medical Center Unprepared for Major Event

"...After the death of superstar Michael Jackson at 2:26 pm today, the medical center had more than enough time to prepare for the press conference called on site for 5:15 pm. In fact, if a crisis plan was in place for one of the best known and largest medical centers in the country, it would have taken about one hour to implement all the steps. I was extremely surprised at UCLA Medical Center's lack of preparedness...Instead at 5:15, the courtyard was filled with media and many people who had come to the hospital to pay their respects or just rubberneck. The crush of people with no police presence in sight hampered the ability for reporters to report the news and the following occurred:
• An announcement was made that the press conference would be held in the auditorium. Hundreds ran across the street to the auditorium as the glass doors were abruptly locked by what appeared to be frightened security guards.• Credentialed reporters were then told to go to another location, and when they arrived, many were told the room was at capacity.
There was no UCLA Medical Center spokesperson or ER physician at the press conference. Instead the press conference spokesperson was Jermaine Jackson."

I have seen very few articles where they actually acknowledge that it was weird that Jermaine was the spokesperson at the press conference.

An interesting video-

At the beginning the woman newscaster says she heard about MJ around 3:30 - the male newscaster says he first heard about it around 1:00 on the radio (was he listening to a police radio? who did he hear it from?) - listen to the video from :01 to :20  -  around :13 the woman says "this has been developing for some time and we have yet to hear an official from UCLA Medical Center come out and tell us what happened here..."

So they were expecting an official from UCLA Medical Center to give an announcment.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqdunwOR ... re=related

I wonder how many news outlets questioned Jermaine giving the "official" announcement.

I'd imagine quite a few of them. I can't remember the last time, if ever, a celebrity's family member made a death announcement during the middle of the day, right at the hospital where the death occurred. It's not as if it were late at night or the wee hours of the morning and fewer staff members were available to do the deed.

What surprises me more than Jermaine making the official statement is the fact that no news outlets have been vocal about how odd it was that he was the one to do it. They know how these things work, so I'd love to learn the reason for the silence of the media, as well as the hospital staff, visitors, and patients. I realize the media is ignorant much of the time, but hoax believers can't be the only people noticing oddities like this.

I think non  hoax believers think it is peculiar but don't think anything of it. They move on and take what the news is telling them as truth. just like the accusations against Mj. they don't care enough to research it and make a judgment based on facts. instead they came to the conclusion that Mj was "weird". dont think so. I think the man was quite normal.

At first, I am new here and my english is very bad. I hope, you understand, what I mean.
Someone was asking, if Police was at MJs house on 25.06. I can say, YES....

Look at this video on 0:36, you see on the left side an Officer (the one with the cap).

I also found some weeks ago picutres of KJ, leaving the UCLA. She had a "Visitor-Pass" on her blouse - Date 25.06.

I agree. who really knows where they took that stretcher from the ambulance once it entered the building. once outside the public or camera eye, they could have just gotten rid of the dummy (if so??) or MJ could have walked out from another enterance wihtout really going inside the hospital. And lets not forget, it was still a real hospital with real deadbodies in it so we also dont know whose body was carried to the helicopter (if so??)
you can actualy find a youtube  video about anna nic. smith being carreid form the ambulance intothe hospital and to think no one could get that for MJ- not even one?? yah right.

I agree.  Wasnt it said by many Jackson siblings that when they called the hospital to talk to their mom, they could hear their mom crying and shouting that MJ is gone. So ok lets pretend the hospital peeps kept his body hush hush but no one heard his mom scream about MJ?? Yah right.

"I saw Jermaine" Latoya etc

http://x17online.com/celebrities/michae ... 252009.php

Supposedly, Janet and some other siblings said in their interviews that when they called to talk to their mom in the hospital after finding out about MJ, they heard her scream or shout that MJ was gone in the background. So no one heard her in the hospital?? especially people on that floor??

to anyone who can remmeber the time when Mj was in the pepsi accident: was there any news or eye witness accounts from the people in the hospital when Mj was rushed in? because we know that was serious.

Well, the only thing I could found,is this newspaper archive.

aww thanks AnnieIsNotOk!! :)

see right in the article an extra from the commercial spoke up and explained what she saw. can you imagine a hosptial with patients, their families and friends, nurses, doctors, janitors, housekeeper, etc. not a peep from them.

also the vice president of the hospital gave a statement that he was fine in this article.
nothing from the hospital officials now. weird eh!

Come on ! how could that be more fishy ?
Like you all said , when it come to a celebrity people's mouth are always eager to open !And here, such an important, crucial event, no one to try to steal the spotlight ?
Simple exemple :
-One friend of me wich is a waiter called me all exited one day telling me that his restaurant(gastronomic one in Baumes de Provence) served Brad Pitt
He could'nt believe it he was too happy(well I don't think that he lied hearing his little-like boy voice)that's totally unrelated to MJ,of course but it's to picture the effect has a celebrity over someone !

-When Michael's son is born there were people all over the hopital(like many of you said it)
- There are so many idiots wich had come forward in the past claiming to have witnessed MJ molesting boys or doing that or that...There must be some kind of idiots or rumour's spreading's monsters in a hospital, right ?(sorry for the vocabulary but You know what I mean , everyone wanted to have a piece of the cake when it came to MJ ,right ?)
Why hasn't anyone has come forward to have his limelight ?!

That's too big ! That's MJ ! I agree it must be all an act or something !

Grenat is right.

I mean peoplle would try to sell their stories to the tabloids  in the child abuse siutation) before they would go to the police which proved the child abuse stories to be false but what im trying to say is that they were tryin to make money offa that situation because it dealt with MJ (a big celeb) and a scandal. there was money to made from that so people were gonna cash in.

but Mj's supposed death and no one saw him come into the hospital? no patients of family or patients or doctors who werent tending to him but still saw him come in, or the staff that moved the body to the morgue

hospitals are swarming with people and NO ONE saw him?

Smell that, yall? I "smell the smelly smell" of a smelly hoax. :D

Well here it is... a user on another forum (http://www.michaeljacksonhoaxdeath.net/ ... =64&t=1675) - all credit goes to HoaxWatcher from MJHD.net - has found something definetly worth looking at. Though not an eye-witness report, this comes from LAFD captain's wife and she talks about her husband's text messages after he and his team been working on MJ... The site seems totally legit, here's the direct link:
http://millsfamilyhomepage.com/wp/?p=4611#comments

I know this can be squeezed into hoax somehow (as almost everything due to variety of theories), yet i hate to admit this one gave me a strange feeling. Here's why: this woman is talking to her friends/relatives on this blog (hell it even looks like a cozy kitchen), she doesn't want to mention MJ's name not to attract attention to her site (so to keep it a private), Jeff Mills is indeed an LAFD captain and most certainly been there on call. So I see only few possibilitis here:
- he told his wife this story to close the scene (knowing she has a blog and ppl would be questioning after a while); i don't think it was intentional and public-oriented, most certainly - just for this particular community
- the unpronounceable

And, in case it's the 1st option, i find it interesting he texted MJ was "gone before they got there", I actually find it interesting he texted at all, just 2 minutes after MJ was pronounced dead at UCLA.
"They went to UCLA medical center with him and had to stay quite a long time" - that's probable - "He finally called me around 7 PM and still couldn’t say much" - that's a long time actually, but i suppose there could be other reasons. "He was warned that the paparazzi can intercept cellphone calls. Back at his fire station, he was fielding phone calls from TMZ and other celebrity websites looking for information." - This sounds just fine, however it always seemed TMZ were on top of everything almost as if they had an inside source, would they need to call the fire dep for info? well maybe. "Of course he was saying, “No comment.” - yet it's fine to let your wife share this info with neighbours? Oh... IRDK

Seriously, why wouldn't she want to mention Michael's name? People found her blog anyway, as it seems. She wouldn't have to mention this at all if she didn't want the attention. You can discuss this with your friends all you want, you don't need to do it on the internet for the whole wide world to see. Next.

Here's another article from when Michael got burnt in 1984:
http://www.people.com/people/archive/ar ... 44,00.html
It's worth reading!

I'm copying it here:

Feb. 13, 1984
Thriller Chiller - By Carl Arlington
Pop Sensation Michael Jackson Survives a Fiery Brush with Serious Injury and Plans a Memoir with Jackie O

Michael Jackson had been shot. That was the first reaction of those nearby when he grabbed the back of his head and screamed. It was not a bullet wound that made him scream, though it was almost as bad: Jackson's head was on fire.

This live thriller unfolded last week before thousands of stunned fans at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium, where Michael, 25, and his musical brothers were filming a Pepsi commercial. It happened during one of the last scenes after four hectic days of shooting under the direction of video wizard Bob Giraldi. Giraldi had ordered another take of the flashy gala opening sequence. Amid brilliant illumination, Michael appeared at the top of a stairway and began his dazzling dancing descent to the floor, where the remaining Jacksons were lined up.

About halfway down, he felt something hot but figured it was just the klieg lights. Pyrotechnical special effects were flashing around him as he pirouetted to a fizzy version of Billie Jean. Suddenly there was a jolt of pain and he cried out. The first to respond was Miko Brando, 22, Marlon's son and a Jackson security aide. "I tore out, hugged him, tackled him and ran my hands through his hair," reports Brando, who burned his own fingers in the process. Within seconds the fire was extinguished and Michael was surrounded by a crowd of bodyguards, Jacksons and technicians. A quick-thinking fan grabbed a handful of ice, borrowed a T-shirt to make a cold compress and applied it to the wound. A few minutes later paramedics arrived and whisked Michael away to the emergency room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The accident occurred just after 6 p.m. and early bulletins on the local news reported that Jackson had been "severely burned and was in serious condition." In fact, thanks to the emergency ice treatment, he was alert enough to tell the ambulance attendants that he wanted to keep his trademark jeweled glove on when he was wheeled into the hospital. The medical staff checked his vital signs and inspected the wound. The fire had scorched a palm-sized second-degree burn on his crown which surrounded a third-degree burn about the size of the hole in a 45-rpm record. An antiseptic cream (silver sulfadiazine) was applied, and Jackson was offered a painkiller, which he at first refused because of his disdain for narcotics. He later accepted an analgesic.

Word of the accident quickly reached Dr. Steven Hoefflin, Jackson's personal physician and plastic surgeon, who rushed to Cedars-Sinai. "It was quite a shock for Michael, and when I got there he was in a daze," reports Hoefflin. "After I examined him and told him he would be fine, he felt a lot better." Hoefflin, who once cosmetically reshaped Jackson's nose, decided to move his famous patient across town for treatment at the Burn Center of the Brotman Medical Center in Culver City. Accompanied by his parents, his brother Randy, two bodyguards and Hoefflin, Michael arrived at about 8:15 p.m. Once settled in room 3307, he became the patient of nurse Kathy McGrath, 29, who recalls that "he was still pretty shaken up and cold, so we put about five blankets on him."

Soon fans began congregating at the hospital and crowding into the emergency room waiting area. Switch-boards were flooded with calls and six staff volunteers handled the jammed phone lines. Security throughout the hospital was beefed up and a guard placed at every entrance to the burn unit. "Practically everybody who works in the hospital found some excuse to visit the floor," says Burn Center supervisor Pat Lavalas.

Michael, meanwhile, was making a fast recovery. Within a few hours he was asking for a videotape player. Because staffers did not have the key to the cabinet where the hospital video equipment was kept, they broke the padlock to get the machine and found an assortment of about 10 tapes for Jackson. He selected Close Encounters of the Third Kind, directed by his friend Steven Spielberg, and stayed awake watching it until 1 a.m. Then, after being given a sleeping pill, he had a restful night.

Michael awoke to a breakfast of fruit and juice and a tidal wave of messages from friends and fans. Diana Ross called. So did Liza Minnelli. Jackson's favorite among the hundreds of telegrams was one from a girl that said, "I heard you were hot, Michael, but this is ridiculous."

By the time Hoefflin arrived the next day, Jackson had watched American Bandstand on TV and, according to one nurse, "was bebopping in bed while the doctors examined him."

Instead of a typical hospital gown, he had adorned himself in a turquoise scrub outfit. The nurses also fashioned a head bandage that could be camouflaged with a macramé hat. "You're going to start a new wave here in 1984—the net look," nurse Jan Virgil told Michael. "He laughed and said he wanted to look French."

Jackson had been to the Burn Center previously, visiting patients there on two occasions. Only last month, in fact, Jackson called on Keith Perry, a 23-year-old mechanic who had suffered third-degree burns on 95 percent of his body. Perry had just undergone his 14th operation when Michael arrived and was placed in an adjoining room. Another severely burned patient with whom he had been in frequent contact was 41-year-old seamstress Bessie Henderson. "Bessie had gone through many operations and was very depressed," reports Hoefflin, who is also her plastic surgeon. "When Michael started calling she turned around and now she is doing a lot better."

Some of the patients were unaware they had a celebrity in their midst until Michael, wearing white socks and a single white sequined glove, made his rounds, visiting Keith, Bessie and the other six patients in the burn unit. One of the patients could not believe that he had actually been visited by Michael Jackson, so the singer returned to prove that it wasn't just a dream. Another patient wanted to know why Jackson wore the glove. "This way," he explained, "I am never offstage." With the consent of his doctor, Michael decided after less than a day to check out of the hospital and continue treatment as an outpatient.

Accompanied by his entourage and sporting a black fedora and hospital whites over street clothes, Michael was taken to a private car in a wheelchair. On his way, he stopped to have his picture taken with several visitors. "He's going to be bigger than Elvis Presley," said a woman in her 50s. "Bigger than who?" chirped one of the preteens who had flocked around.

Nearly all of the Burn Center staff got their souvenirs, as their famous patient posed for snapshots and signed cassettes, Thriller albums and 8 x 10 glossies. And though Jackson did not dance, Hoefflin knew that wouldn't last for long. "Telling Michael not to dance," said the surgeon, "is like telling him not to breathe."

Jackson plans to attend the mega-party that CBS and Epic Records are throwing in his honor at the American Museum of Natural History in New York this week, and he ought to be back in full gear by the time the Grammy awards (he's nominated for a dozen) roll around Feb. 28. "Michael is healthy and in good shape," says Hoefflin. "That will make for a speedy recovery." It's too early to judge if he will need any reconstructive surgery.

The exact cause of the accident at the Shrine Auditorium has yet to be determined. Eyewitnesses say it was a spark from one of the special lighting effects that ignited his hair. "Michael was exhausted when it happened," says Hoefflin. "It came at the end of a week when he was trying to film the commercial, make plans for a major national tour and finish an album with his brothers."

So far there has been no lawsuit, though the Jacksons and Pepsi executives have been carefully reviewing the film of the incident to determine if there was negligence. The sponsorship deal with Pepsi for two commercials is reportedly the most lucrative celebrity endorsement deal in history, guaranteeing the Jacksons at least $5 million. The family had to be nudged into the deal because, according to one insider, endorsing a product "isn't a decision every artist could be comfortable with immediately."

Although it will be a decidedly less lucrative undertaking, Michael also plans an autobiography. And for this, he will have the help of the most celebrated editor in publishing: Jackie Onassis. Mrs. O was first introduced to Mr. J several years ago at a Kennedy function in New York; both Caroline and John Jr. have been fans since the singer's Jackson Five days. Jackie and Michael met again last October in California—this time, says Jackson aide Steve Manning, "to really get to know each other."

Two weeks ago Jackie's firm, Doubleday, announced a $300,000-plus deal with Jackson—and named Jackie as his editor. Michael's memoirs, which will contain around 200 photos from his private collection, is due out in the spring of 1985. Jackson is also set to star in a new film of Peter Pan with Spielberg directing. The tour, meanwhile, is scheduled to begin this May with the kick-off possibly in the Jacksons' old hometown, Gary, Ind. The concert may be broadcast internationally.

Not that Jackson needs the extra exposure. The Guinness Book of World Records recently stopped the presses on its latest paperback edition to cite Michael's 23-million-copy Thriller as the biggest-selling solo LP of all time. He also continues to break sales records with his sixth single, Thriller's title cut, and his "Say Say Say" duet with Paul McCartney remains at the top of the charts. All of this is mere statistical evidence of Michael's extraordinary fan appeal, a mystique now enhanced by a near tragedy. "I would be willing to break my arm," said 14-year-old Tyrone Davis, one of the faithful who kept vigil outside the hospital, "just to be in the emergency room with Michael." Not to be outdone, Davis' sidekick, John Thomas, 13, boasted, "That's nothing. I would break my neck."

in "Guide to release of patient information to the media",(A guide for hospital public relations professionals and the news media,as specified by California law and HIPAA):

-DEATH OF A PATIENT

The HIPAA privacy protections continue to apply to a
patient’s medical information even after the patient’s
death. That is, no information may be released unless
the inquiry contains the patient’s name.
The death of a patient is considered to be a “patient
condition” and may be disclosed using this oneword
description. However, hospitals should exercise
additional care with respect to disclosure of a
patient’s death, ensuring that all reasonable efforts
have been made to notify the patient’s next-of-kin
prior to the patient’s death being made public.
A patient’s death is not routinely announced by
the hospital, but rather by the patient’s physician or
the coroner.
Consequently, hospitals should verify that there has
been no objection to disclosure from the patient’s
family or other legal representative and that next-of-kin
have been notified (or a reasonable attempt has been
made) prior to the hospital making any announcement
of a patient’s death.
Additional information about a patient’s death,
including the date, time and cause of death, should
not be released without written authorization
from a legal representative of the deceased. Again,
this information typically comes from a patient’s
physician, not the hospital

- PUBLIC FIGURES AND CELEBRITIES
The standards for release of information and
permissible disclosures are no different for public
figures or celebrities than for other patients. However,
given the likelihood of media interest, the hospital
may wish to verify with the patient (or the patient’s
representative) whether there is objection to the
disclosure of information to the media.

Michael Jackson\'s message is simple...."Avoid being judgemental and LEARN to think for yourself....Dont "ADOPT" opinions....FORM your own based on reasoning and available evidence. Thi should aply to EVERY DAMN SITUATION THAT WE FACE. The sooner we make this change, the better.

The Gossip Machine, Churning Out Cash

The team of federal prosecutors and F.B.I. agents in Los Angeles are asking similar questions when they suspect that confidential health records are sold for gossip fodder. Anthony R. Montero, a special assistant United States attorney with the health care fraud unit based in Los Angeles, said the number of leaks was “significant, but we actively investigate all the matters.”

Last year, prosecutors won a guilty plea from a former U.C.L.A. Medical Center researcher, Huping Zhou, who was found to have illegally gained access to private medical files, many of celebrities, more than 300 times. But investigators could find no evidence to support their suspicion that he was doing it for pay from gossip outlets. Mr. Zhou is appealing his case.

Similarly, the Los Angeles police have yet to solve a high-profile, embarrassing leak: an official photograph obtained by TMZ showing the singer Rihanna’s bruised face after she was beaten in February 2009 by her boyfriend at the time, the singer Chris Brown. In September 2009, the department put two officers it suspected in the leak on administrative leave, but they have not been charged and continue to collect full pay, their lawyers said.

The Los Angeles Coroner’s Department has investigated two major leaks — the actress Brittany Murphy’s preliminary autopsy report in December 2009 and Michael Jackson’s preliminary death certificate.

“Here’s what we’re facing: the offer for pictures of Michael Jackson in our building was worth $2 million the day after he died,” said Ed Winter, the deputy coroner. “We had to shut down public access to our building. We had people literally climb the back fence trying to break in and get what they could.”

The federal law enforcement team established the clearest link between private records and a gossip outlet two years ago by following the trail of Farrah Fawcett’s medical file.

After The National Enquirer report that Ms. Fawcett’s cancer had returned, investigators tracked the leak to a low-level employee at the U.C.L.A. Medical Center, Lawanda Jackson, who disclosed her involvement with the paper as part of a plea agreement.

According to an official involved in the investigation, Ms. Jackson described a courtship in which an Enquirer reporter established a level of trust before offering money for information. The official said The Enquirer initially asked Ms. Jackson to find out whether celebrities were in the hospital and then moved on to requests requiring more intrusive forays into medical files, paying each time.

Ex-hospital worker convicted in patient record leaks dies

Prosecutors are moving to dismiss the case against the UCLA Medical Center employee, who had sold information about celebrities to the National Enquirer.

May 09, 2009|Associated Press

The U.S. attorney's office says it is moving to dismiss a case against a former UCLA Medical Center employee who died after pleading guilty to selling medical records of celebrities.

Lawanda Jackson, 50, had been scheduled for sentencing Monday after pleading guilty in December to the felony charge of violating federal medical privacy law for commercial purposes.

Jackson sold information from the records of Britney Spears, Farrah Fawcett and other high-profile patients to the National Enquirer, authorities said. The publication has not been charged.

Court papers filed by prosecutors Thursday moved to dismiss the indictment against Jackson, saying the government had received a copy of her death certificate.

The cause of death was not disclosed in the document.

Jackson's federal public defender, Angel Navarro, said she died March 24 from complications of breast cancer.

He said she regretted her offense. "She was a nice lady who made a bad decision for a little bit of money," he said, adding that Jackson was married with a teenage daughter.

Jackson could have faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, but was expected to receive probation as a result of her plea agreement, Navarro said.

Jackson worked as an administrative specialist at the UCLA hospital for 32 years and in recent years began using her supervisor's password to access medical records inappropriately, authorities said.

The tabloid deposited checks totaling at least $4,600 into her husband's checking account beginning in 2006, prosecutors said. Jackson resigned in July 2007 before she could be fired.
