Jackie Chan dead? So says local news station
March 29, 2011, 08:52:24 AM
My mother-in-law just called and told me it was over the news.  Is this true?  All I get is a death hoax over Twitter page.  Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere,  I have been sick and haven't checked the news or anything.

Well apparently, it is another prank via Twitter.  Funny, she heard it in the news over the radio, and she wont believe me it was a prank, because she got it from a reliable source...

New Delhi: The 56-year-old popular Hong-Kong actor, Jackie Chan has become the latest victim of Twitter death hoax. "RIP Jackie Chan" has been one of the top trending topics on Twitter and Google all day today.

Apparently a fake report filed fake CNN article put together by the owner of a blog called Skiphopz triggered off the rumours.

The article was put together using an online, free anonymous service, which allows users to just paste HTML code and recreate a webpage without having to host it.

The article, which was entitled "Jackie Chan Dies Of Heart Attack", sparked off the rumour which led to flood RIP messages for Jackie Chan.

Not too long ago a tweet paying homage to former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam had sparked rumours of his death.

Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars? Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, "I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight," people would say, "Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a single word that comes out of his mouth."

What is it with these people. Do they get a thrill doing this type of stuff? Let people be. Let them live in peace.

A Los Angeles hospital has reported that Jackie Chan has passed away. The legendary Hong Kong actor who appeared in over 100 films died last night following a heart attack. He was promoting his most recent film, 'Kung Fu Panda 2'. Doctors say his heavy schedule was causing extreme stress and putting too much pressure on his heart. Chan was scheduled to fly to Hong Kong today to begin shooting on his next film '1911'.

The actors family has not yet issued a statement in regards to the passing of the truly remarkable actor who died at the young age of 56. Fans swarmed Facebook after confirmation of his passing came through a source close to Chan. A couple of celebrities have also posted their personal tributes through face book. Will Smith; “A remarkable actor, he will be forever missed and always in our hearts. RIP Jackie. x”

Even United States President Barack Obama laid down a personal tribute to the martial artist saying: “Jackie Chan is a man who can talk through talent, he is a constant reminder of the strength of humanity. He will forever be in our hearts, a true inspiration who inspired many generations. First it's Nate Dogg then it's Jackie Chan."

MTV will be holding a special memorial for Chan on Friday.

This is sick.  They even quoted President Obama, and Will Smith.  Who can be responsible for this?

Internet hoax sparks rumours of Jackie Chan's death

RUMOURS of Jackie Chan's death have set the Twitterverse into overdrive, but according to his Facebook page the action star is alive and kicking.

The bogus news took hold after it was tweeted that the action star had suffered a heart attack, the Courier-Mail reported.

'RIP Jackie Chan'  topped Twitter's trending topics, sparking confusion and leading to a post on Chan's Facebook page debunking the story.

"Jackie is alive and well. He did not suffer a heart attack and die, as was reported on many social networking sites and in online news reports.

"Jackie is fine and is busy preparing for the filming of his next movie."

The prank originated on a fake website made to look like the Australian news website Yahoo!7News.
Chan is not the first celebrity to be prematurely killed off on the internet.

Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum was the victim of a similiar bogus story that he had died in a ski accident in New Zealand, sparking a spate of copycat celebrity death hoaxes.

It was from that time (in bold) that it became more frequent. They said Jeff Goldblum died on the same day as MJ but of course it was a hoax...like anyone else we know.
