Mohamed Al Fayed offered role in Michael Jackson musical

Michael Jackson's old chum Mohamed Al Fayed has been promised a part in a musical about the King of Pop -- with a chance to show off his hitherto unheralded singing and dancing skills.

The former Harrods owner recently showed his devotion to Jackson by raising a statue to his friend outside Fulham FC, the London football club of which he is chairman.

That act was criticised by some ungrateful Fulham fans -- told by Al Fayed in no uncertain times to clear off and support Chelsea -- but the club chairman has received sympathy from the people behind 'Man In The Mirror', a stage show based on the late star's hits.

The musical's executive producer, David King, has invited Al Fayed to perform the title track, The Sun reports. "He's come in for a bit of stick over [the statue] so I would like to give him the chance to share his passion with fellow fans," King said.

"I'm not sure what his dancing is like, but our choreographers can certainly help him brush up on his moves." The producer hopes Al Fayed will narrate parts of the show and share stories about his friendship with Jackson.

The American show is due to come to the UK this summer.
