Jermaine Jackson -- Stuck in Africa

Jermaine Jackson -- Stuck in Africa
3 minutes ago by TMZ Staff

Jermaine Jackson cannot come back to the United States of America ... because he owes a fortune in back child support ... TMZ has learned.

Jermaine is currently in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Africa. We've learned his passport has expired and he can't get a new one, so he's waylaid there.

Here's what we know.  n May 2008, Jermaine's baby mama Alejandra got a child support order, requiring him to pay $3,000 a month. Jermaine went into arrears almost immediately and, as of last month, he owed $91,921.

Under California law, when someone owes more than $2,500 a month in child support, the State Department of Child Support Services automatically informs the feds of the delinquency, and the feds then flag the person's passport. Once the passport expires, it will not be renewed until the person becomes current on child support obligations.

Our sources say Jermaine's passport expired during his trip, he can't get a new one and he's stuck overseas.

If Jermaine doesn't clear up the debt, it's unclear if the American Embassy will come to the rescue.

Since he hasn't enough money for child support, how does he afford all these trips unless someone else is paying for him..????? :o  :o  ;)

No disrespect I was wondering that myself.  If Jermaine does owe so much child support like the media says why would he constantly be traveling somewhere?  He is always talking about his travels on his Twitter account.  Why is he always traveling outside the United States that's my question.  He's not on tour or anything right?  If this story is true I think that would be a sad thing to be owe so much child support that you can't get home.  Who Knows exactly what's up with Jermaine though.  He has done quite a few reality shows so it seem like he should have money to pay.

I don't believe a single word. And if you owe someone almost hundred grant, the feds flagged your passport, are you still able to leave the country? That doesn't makes sense, why flag the passport then?

Why would you leave the country in the first place, knowing your passport will expire while you're gone.  Wouldn't you take care of that before you leave?  It doesn't make him look very smart.

This sounds silly but when MJ comes back or announces he is Alive...people might not take it well and get upset at the family from keeping it from everyone...and they will most likely be hounded by the paps...so making it like Jermaine can't come back until he gets a new passport will make it less suspicious...and then maybe the Jackson family will visit Jermaine until MJ can comeback...this could be a cover-up (so they family will be safe if MJ comes back) or a reunion of the Jackson's in Africa.

Exactly.
Besides that, he still remains american citizen, and is always protected by USA, so in the case that your passport expires you go to the embassy and you get a Laissez passer, which means one way ticket to come home. Once you're back, you can apply for new documents. That's where this flag will cause a problem.
A person abroad with a expired passport cannot get a new passport through the embassy unless this country is his/her permanent residency.

There seem to be some parallels with Jermaine and Dr. Murray.

Both have/had child support non-payment issues.

And yet both seem to have endless funds for everything else although nobody is sure where this money is coming from.

Weird, isn't it?
