Title: Debunking sign language 'ALIVE'
Post by: QuirkyDiana on March 07, 2010, 08:17:27 PM
On the Seeingclues blogspot (very bottom), it is mentioned that during 'Will you be there' there is sign language indicating that MJ is alive - alive being the important word. This is not the case.
http://seeingclues.blogspot.com/ (http://seeingclues.blogspot.com/)

Alive (sign language) - thumbs pointing up, both hands moving up the chest. Look up 'alive'. http://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/aslpro/aslpro.cgi (http://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/aslpro/aslpro.cgi)

In WYBT at 1.22 the word is 'Lead me'. Here is an example of how this is done in sign language.
Check out 'Lead' here. http://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/aslpro/aslpro.cgi (http://www.aslpro.com/cgi-bin/aslpro/aslpro.cgi) It is the same as in WYBT.  Not the same as 'alive'.

In WYBT at 1.54 the phrase is 'I will be there'. I cannot find the sign language for this, BUT the fingers pointing up are not the thumbs, and both hands are not moving up the chest. It is obvious that it does not mean 'alive'.

This part is being debunked. I posted it on MJHD because the original idea came from someone here.

He says lead me. It's similar to 'alive' in that the thumbs are up and the hands move up. But in 'alive' the hands do not move away from the body, they move towards it/up it.

Thanks for the reply, but im asking - is that the whole sentence he says in sign language?  Does he just say "lead me" or does he say more than that?
thanks

Yes, just says 'lead me'. I've checked the lyrics to make sure i heard it right, and it was correct. It also matched the sign that is used for this phrase. It's 100% correct  :)

It should also be noted that there is NO sign language used for the word 'alive' in the whole WYBT performance at the memorial.
