Michael Jackson’s Upcoming TEXAS Concert?
By DIANE DIMOND
Will Sing for Money - But Where?
Let’s put another nick in the Michael Jackson lawsuit belt.
Just last week I wrote about a $44 million lawsuit just filed by a former PR flax named Raymone Bain. Now, here’s another – and it could possibly put a crimp in that series of 50 London based Jackson concerts you’ve heard so much about.
According to an American concert promoter the Michael Jackson camp signed a contract with HIM a long time ago to stage his next concert on July 3rd, 2010 at the massive Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas. Its supposed to be a pay per view production via the internet including other Jackson family members as well. Janet Jackson’s name has been mentioned. And, it’s expected to bring in as much as $30 million. AllGood Entertainment out of New Jersey maintains it signed an agreement with Jackson’s manager, Frank DiLeo.
Whoopsie-daisy! I’m not sure DiLeo can still be considered Jackson’s manager of record. Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t following his very public and painful firing by Jackson many years ago. Frankly, I thought DiLeo had learned his lesson about getting burned by all things Jackson.
At any rate, if AllGood Entertainment goes ahead with its planned lawsuit I suppose an American court could rule that the London concerts, scheduled for this July, must be put off. It all depends on the precise language in this contract DiLeo reportedly signed – AND – whether DiLeo is authorized to sign off on contracts for Mr. Jackson.
A music promoter plans to sue to block Michael Jackson from performing in London this year, claiming that a contract signed by the “king of pop” prevents him from giving a concert until July 2010, the head of the promotion company said on Monday. New Jersey-based AllGood Entertainment Inc contends it signed an agreement in November with Jackson’s manager, Frank DiLeo, committing the singer to perform in July 2010 along with his brothers from the Jackson Five and sister Janet Jackson. via Michael Jackson concerts may face legal challenge | Reuters.
I can see the Jacko team of lawyers swooping in to make this really, really messy. I’ll keep my eye on it. In the meantime, there’s word that Jackson is taking his comeback seriously – showing up at a rehearsal spot in L.A. several times a week.
Seems like he’s getting ready for a concert (…or two or 50?) somewhere!
