I found online dictionary of ASL.
As my internet is slow I couldn't see the videos you posted, but I hope someone of you may check it and verify if this is the same sign.

At 1:54 they definitely sign He and alive according to the ASL dictionary. Great find!

I did notice this during the memorial, but I just sort of shrugged it off, I don't know why. I guess I shouldn't have. My grandparents are deaf, so as I was watching I noticed some signing a few times and at the time I saw the memorial only about 8% of me thought he was alive. I completely forgot about this though, but I think you're right, it must mean something. Thanks for the video and the post. :D

I´m sorry... but look here at 1 20 when they make it slowly.... to me is the same sign....

The word ALIVE in SL :
The L handshapes move up the body as if to draw attention to a living body.
This is clearly what we see at the memorial @ 1:22.
Thanks Missy - great find !!!!!!

Missy, the video of the young man doing interpretive dance to WYBT was beautiful. Thank you so much for posting that. It's very clear how much Michael's song touched this young man. Just... wonderful. You made my night.
I do want to say he is signing Michael's lyrics in the song though, not the back up singers.

Wow, great find ! :D
This can't be a mistake, this is deliberate, and this mean "ALIVE", great clue.

Hey guys,
I checked it out, and they do not appear to sign "alive"....@ 1:22, infact, even though there is a slight variation from ASL, all the dancers appear to be signing "lead", the variation being that they make a fist with their left hand (thumb up), and their right hand (also with thumbs up, join the two in what appear to be a fist bumband draw both hands away from the body into the air to the right. While the ASL version is to make a horizontal L with the left hand and use the right hand to tug the left hand to the right and away from the body.

If they were signing alive, both hands wld make a horizontal L (thumbs pointing up) and wld follow the line of the body from the belly up to the chest- not away from the body. Like this:

Instead, this

Looks more like this:

Sorry guys...I was hoping...but no clue here.
