Dont worry...  as long as it generates money for the poor people of Haiti thats all that matters.

You can almost hear MJ saying "dont worry... its ok...   we just need to help those people"

It just started off bad to me that lil boy Justin wateva came on with the Autotune it sounded like...?? I don't think Lil' Wayne's lil 3sec part was bad but when Will.i.am came in with that wild ass rap...YEAAA... it was over 4 me.   I just couldn't stop laughing and yelling at the TV.

DancingTheDream, I understand what you're saying about the money and Haiti (which i myself have my own thoughts about) but i highly doubt that MJ would approve of that garbage. Even the split screen wit him and Janet looked terrible

I must now go on youtube and watch the Original...when ppl like MJ, Bruce Springteen and Stevie Wonder KILLLED it!

I'm in tears too!  I miss him so much.  The world needs MJ like crazy right now.  But it's true, it's for a good cause, so that's all that matters.

To be honest i havent listened to or seen this new version.  Too painful for me.

But i am willing to let it go if it generates money for Haiti.. as i believe Michael wouldnt mind as long as it helps those people.

Ive donated money direct from my pay check to Haiti so i wont be buying this new song anyway.  Ive given my own way.  Michael inspired me to give more than i would normally.  He is the inspiration.  xx

Lol, eww they totally murdered that song.

It's a classic, why did they have to use MJ's song?
Why can't they write a crappy song instead? Then least it would be original and "their" own.  :|

Yes they definity should have just made a new song.. it's kinda sad though! It just made you aware that there aren't the great artists out now-a-days like there were back then. They had MJ, Ray Charles, Bruce, Stevie, Tina Turner, Steve Perry, Al Jarreau, and the only sorry ass person they had on theirs was Cyndi Lauper LMAO... but who did they decide 2 throw up there 2010?? a 10yr old with like 2 hits, a rapper that's about to go 2 jail in a few days, some actors, Kanye West?? The dude the President called a jackass?? LMAOOO... commmme on!!

I saw some footage of them trying to get the video together at the last minute.  The people were all panicked because it was down to the last minute to get everything together.  I also heard that Barbara Streisand did like 70 takes of the verse she had to sing. They said they had like a week and a half to get it together.  That's probably why no one really likes it because it doesn't seem like they put much time and effort into it.  Also the artists they chose to sing it seems odd.  Although I believe MJ and Lionel Richie basically wrote the original version the same day they were to record.I remember seeing footage of MJ teaching people how to sing their parts during the live recording.  What the heck was Vince Vaugn doing up in there?

OMMMG.. i just watched the whole thing.. I can't .. UGH! it frustrates me. Somethings just need to be left alone. Somethings don't need remixes or remakes wateva u wanna call it. Yea it sounds 2010ish but if they were goin for 2010ish they shoulda wrote a new WORLD song.  I am in disbelief that they butchered a classic. I'ma be mad bout this for awhile LMAO.  Just terrible    Lionell and Quincy should be ashamed. It just looks like they wanted to rush it to get on with the Olympics. I'll send money myself before I buy this!

And believe me, do you really think that Janet and 3T would be there if they thought it was terrible? Do you really think they would let them use Mike in it if they would knowMike wouldn't approve with this? Maybe I am just stupid and maybe I am not a fan, but I seriously think he had a hand in this one...

I liked it. I think its wonderful that a song written so long ago to help fight hunger in the world, is now once again helping to save lives. It's not about the song, but about the power of coming together for one cause as a world and I think MJ is happy that they decided to remake it. He's passed away to most of the world, yet his compassion and caring soul is still moving the world towards a better day.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree because... yea, that was some bumsauce. lol I mean, they probably didn't know how it was gonna come out. Shit Janet wasn't even there   , i just think they tried to update it too much. They shoulda just tried 2 make their own classic. I understand it was for a better cause and all that.... but the product just didn't come out as well as it could of. (the nicest way I can put it) lol

To each his own i guess  :)  I absolutely loved it. So many different culteres coming together to sing for Haiti. They rocked it! Lots of good ballad like Celin and Jennifer Hudson....awesome.....I loved the new version with the rappers doing their version of "singing" that was great and will appeal to the younger generation and hopefully they will buy it too. Tony Bennet did a good job too!! Loved seeing MJ and it sure made my heart ache....but he was beautiful once again. Yep i loved this version just as well as the old version. Loved the new bass beat in the background. Kudos to all the STARS who sang and the directors who pulled this together. You know who you were  :D HUGS TOO ALL OF YOU! 8-)

I absolutely love the remake.
The performers paid tribute to the original and updated it just wonderfully. They should be proud of themselves.
The song will raise a ton of money for people who are in desperate need of rebuilding their lives and their nation.
That was the purpose of creating the remake.

Tony Bennett is definitely old school class and cool. I also liked seeing  Jaime Foxx do his imitation of Ray Charles' lines in the song.

It honored him, was entertaining to the world, and it will raise money for Haiti. I felt very proud for our Michael. When the world sees their top musicians showing love and honor to Michael maybe it will go a long way to healing the world's image of him.

I have not heard the new re-make of We Are The World.  I have seen part of the video shoot.  I cannot listen to or buy the new We Are The World.  It is just too painful for me.  I did buy the original We Are The World on video last week.  It is so wonderful.  Seeing my precious angel MJ filled my heart with such joy.  They cannot remake this classic for me. I am glad the money will go to help the people of Haiti.  That definitely warms my heart!  I cannot believe that Randy Philips of AEG is involved!

How is MJ in the new We Are The World? Is he in the video or just in the song? Thank you in advance.

Well I might as well throw my two pennies in...
Some of you know how I feel about the remake of this song (I always thought it was a bad idea/they needed to make a new song/it kinda ticked me off) and my feelings are still the same.

Now, since they went ahead and did this despite my disapproval, I will go ahead and critique it. Up until the bridge (you know... that part where suddenly everything changes and you actually feel something coming from this song, because somebody with burning passion coupled with undeniable talent starts singing? Yeah, you know the part.) this song sucked.  After the bridge took off... it got better. I actually didn't mind the rap part and thought they went into it smoothly, but coming back into the chorus seemed a little awkward. I HATE the voice manipulation... but that's just a personal preference I guess, and yes I definitely have issues with a lot of the performers that were chosen for this remake. Many of them put my teeth on edge.

I know everyone thinks this is a good thing because it will raise money for Haiti (I personally doubt it will bring in much, though) and that's great. But... like I said before, it seems like a heartless effort. And as far as I'm concerned, the heart is what makes the difference.

WOW autotune on a Michael Jackson song say it aint so this was done very poorly now I cant speak for Michael but we all know he was a perfectionist so how do you think i would make him feel, I know its for Haiti but this is my opinion about the song not about the cause

Heres my Honest Opinion of it....

I think the song was o..k.....BUT as a remake it was a fail....honestly because i felt no emotions from the artist, they werent singin together, it felt like a competition btwn the artist.......i will buy this for what it stands for, Haiti, We Are The World. but some things should never be manufactured and the original was one of them...if you gonna remake something it has to be just as good or better imo...it had a nice beat, and it was alright, but i didnt feel the same when i heard the original......i wish they wouldve just made a new song in general or re-released the original for haiti.....im actually a lil angry tho b.c where were the songs for Hurricane Katrina, the Tsunami, The Soldiers in Irag, all the other disasters? y wait for Haiti to happen and MJ to "Die" to re-do a song....grant it 25th anniversary but honestly do u think if haiti didnt strike they were gonna re-do this song to celebrate its 25th year? i dont think so......it honestly dont feel genuine to me and thas my problem with it "( ....i wish they wuddve just wrote a new song....i get it new generation new tune, but they couldve put more effort and emotion.....jmo

I agree! Fantastic and just how Michael would have done it. The rap is especially nice (although I don't like rap, in this instance it is important) because it reaches the ages that is now. Contemporary...like it was then..so that more people will give.

Although I posted a comment weels ago on another thread about this......I really dont mind saying it again......WHAT THE HELL ON EARTH WERE THEY THINKIN' ?.......

They've made a freakin mess out of it.......Why even REAMKE the song, when cannot have artists of the appropriate calibre to retain the original quality.....?????

Lionel and Quincy J should've best left that gem of a song alone.....Because without Mike---The very soul of the song----It'll always be a half-hearted effort....

Shamone fellas, Dont you really think that by including chaps like Eminem and Kanye West, Lionel And Quincy have not only DONE  INJUSTICE TO THE MELODY BUY ALSO TO THE CAUSE....These folks couldnt care less if the WHOLE WORLD GOT NUKED TOMORROW.
They'd prefer going to a stripper club rather than to a place where their money could earn a oaf of bread for the hungry and needy.

Shameful and Sad.....No effort for charity is complete unless the people involved in that effort truly beLIEve in the cause that they are about to serve.......

Sorry Micahel....

I have to say that when I first saw the preview that was shown before the opening ceremonies for the Olympics I thought it was bad and was greatly disappointed.  I've since gone to the website and watched the video in it's full form and have completely changed my mind.  I'm the first to admit that no one can compare to Michael in pretty much anything but I think he would be pleased with this.  Music must move with the times and he reached out to other artists to stay "fresh".  There are a few seconds of a few performances that I could live without having to hear but overall I think it's great and it's intended to help those who need it most right now.  There has never been (and  most likely never will be) anyone in the industry to wanted so desperately to help those in need more that Michael.  I actually think it speaks volumes that instead of coming up with something entirely new that they chose to use Michaels song.  You can't get a more perfect foundation than that!!

I was kinda sad when I watched it. I thought Michael would give us, the believers, a surprise or something like we thought, he was singing but that was a Jonas brother.
Or that we hear him doing his part but then his voice in 2009 or 2010 you know.. I really thought Michael would do that.. :(

But I thought the kids would do a poem? I didn't saw it in the YT video.

For the person that said "it doesn't matter it's to raise money" or whatever "Michael would say". We all know Michael was a perfectionist, this song was okay & that's it, it wasn't that great & if he were there listening he would have known that & fixed it. I don't know what he would say, but I don't think he'd accept that. & Yeah it's for a great cause to raise money but it DOES matter how it sounds because people have to want to buy it on itunes, if it doesn't sound that great, not as many people will buy it. A lot of people still will just for Haiti but not as many. I thought Janet looked terrible too, no offense to her, I love Janet. But honestly & the split thing was a little "cheesy" to me, because they show Michael in a full body shot but then they have Janet just sitting there & I could barely hear her. I think they should have had her standing or recording from where she was & then did a split screen it would have looked better. Justin Bieber wasn't using autotune, the only person who did was T PAIN!! I don't even know why they included him. The rap with LL, Snoop, Will.I.Am & whoever else was okay in the lyrics but it didn't go with the song. Kanye's fit into the song better but I can't stand him or his rapping, but that's just me. It was okay, not that great but it they did the best they could with who they had, although a couple of the solos could have been given to some of the people in the background instead, just saying. When they played it before the Olympics & only showed a little bit, I must admit I was horrified, it sounded awful, but the full version is better. I like that they left Michael singing his part & put him the video, I just wish he had really been there. & I thought the kids were going to read a poem? I thought that would have been sweet since it was their daddy's song. But I don't mind that they weren't, they weren't right? I didn't see them. Anyways, as a song for Haiti, it was alright but as a remake of a classic, I agree it was wack. Sorry.

I'm really sad to see some of the comments in this thread...  You don't have to like the new version, but saying things like the song was ruined, it sucks, garbage, completely unacceptable, the song was murdered, a freakin mess, and shameful and sad goes a bit too far in my opinion.  I see no reason to completely bash this song because it doesn't meet your expectations.

Keep in mind that a whole group of new artists participated, 25 years later, and a lot of things artistically changed over the past 25 years.  In order for the song to appeal to a new generation it had to be modernized.  If that had not been one of the goals, they simply would have recorded the same old song again.  That is what remakes and covers are about.  The future, for a large part, lies in the hands of the new generation, don't forget that.  Next to that, there was little time to record this remake.

However, the main purpose of the remake is to raise money for Haiti.  If you don't like the remake, fine, don't buy it, but please donate in another way and help these people.

Please, stop bashing this song, because the idea behind it is loving, fantastic, warm and generous...

The only good parts are the ones with actual good voices, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, etc. The rest sucked and th MJ part sounded out of place and forced. The Janet appearance didn't make up for it either, plus it was bad special effects "merging" them together.

I thought I wouldn't like it too - but just having Michael in it helped me watch. His part is still the best as it was in the old song. Janet really cant be heard and she looks like she is mourning.

I agree that though many of us don't like the new artists - it has to be appeal to the current generation and hence has to be updated as they are the ones with the funds to spend on music related donations. So I am okay with Miley's solo. Also the autotune parts because that is what the current trend is. The rap part is so decent that I approve of it. I was expecting some trash but this rap was really tuneful.

If Michael is around he definitely choose most of the artists. Remember that many of these artists appeared on his other charity efforts eg What more can I give. Remember they were also handpicked to sing the earth song. Usher is very respectful of Michael and Justin is Usher's prodigy.

Another reason I think Michael is behind this is because of the ABSENCE of EMINEM. Did anyone see him there. That would have been real disgraceful for Michael.

In the end the single should do well as it is the current artists and it is nice to know that Michael is the only who has stayed current for the last 25 years.

I watched it all the way through and it wasn't terrible, but you know the thing that bugged me...too many obscure people singing on it. When they did the old one, it was a who's who of that day's biggest stars. The creme de la creme'. THAT's why it was such a great recording in the first place. This looks like they just grabbed whoever was interested. It's a lackluster lineup. Where's Beyonce'? Taylor Swift? Lady Gaga? Dave Matthews? Maxwell? All these folks were at the Grammys that night. Where were the Jackson brothers? That would've been a nice touch and a fitting tribute. Even Whitney Houston should be up there as bad as she needs publicity right now and she wasn't even on the first one. That's the biggest flaw in the whole thing, it's not inspired and looks like a hack job done at the last minute. Barbra Streisand? WTH? Where has she been? I thought she had retired or something. She must have been sniffing Jeff Bridges out. lol

It only shows that right now we don't have artists that have even the 10 percent of the qualities that they had in the old days. Autotune?? for real??? cannot they sing without it anymore?? and that's not trend, that just shows that right now you don't really need to be talented to be in the showbussiness. They really should had made a different song, why completely destroy this one?? the imagination is over and people cannot write original songs anymore?? I'm sure a different song would have been great, because nobody would feel the need to make any kind of comparissons, they're just trying to make fame out of MJ, like it's been since he died, that all of a sudden everybody loved him and were inspired by him, but when he was at trial, everybody pretended they didn't know him.

And I'm sure with a different song people would had even buy it more, but I really don't see it becoming a hit in iTunes. Sadly because it's really for a good reason. Luckyly I've made my donations in different ways.

My sentiments exactly! The purpose is to draw attention to the tragedy, not scare people away. I feel more people will ignore the whole thing because they're disgusted with the quality of this production. Especially folks from my generation. I remember the day that song premiered on the radio. It was a HUGE event and folks were sincere about their involvement. This is mockery to me. We are the World belonged to Africa in 1985 and should stay there. Come up with something original for today, folks!

The new version is not that bad... I like it ! And I'm happy to see that they even included the Michael parts (they were not obliged to, they did it for us).
This version had to be done in a different style as it was made with totally different artists.
If they wanted the song to be as same as the first version, they would simply have re-released this first version...
They did the effort to register a new version with new artists for a new cause.
I understand when some of you say that they'd better have written a new song instead of WATW... but they didn't... that's it...
But please, stop bashing them. and think about the cause. Plus, think about what Michael would think about your reactions (not sure he would be proud of his fans bashing these artists and their work). All those artists did a good job, they did their best, their intention was surely not to ruin this beautiful song because it has probably been a real challenge for them to sing it after THE King of Pop... and NO it's not bad, it's just different from the first version.
And Yes, I respect it, and Yes I love it ! And Yes I'll buy the CD because it is to help Haiti (even if I have already donate for them)

Well I, for one, love the new version ... and I'm not even a lover of Rap music but I thought the rap section fitted really well.  Just looking at all those people gathered together, young & old, all from different ethnic as well as musical backgrounds, gave me goosebumps.  And I'm sure Michael was proud of them.  This message will go across whether people bash the messenger or not ... LOVE overcomes everything.  It is also slow to judge and likes to speak kindly or not at all.

I don't like Jay Z, but in this one instance I agree with him 100%.

WATW didn't need to be remade.

I still can't bring myself to watch the whole thing.

If they would have done an original song, I would have been more interested and may have even considered buying the single just to help out.  But they couldn't even come up with their own song?  All the people in that room and they couldn't make a brand new song???

I agree. The ne version isnt that bad but I dont think think they should have covered it. It' Michael's.

Explains why Beyonce wasn't there!  I thought so!

I think it's the firs time I agree with Jay Z in something. He's very right and voicing what a lot of people are thinking.

If JayZ , Beyonce or others chose not to participate in the remake of WATW then they should have done  so and moved along. I am not really interested in hearing their excuses. People make choices in life. Why they made those choices is often irrelevant to me.

Clarification: WATW is not a Michael Jackson song. The song was co-written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie. All together now...co-written...
The song was sung by an assembly of singers, actors and other public figures with some people  performing solos. It was a collaborative effort by many people. The song was written to raise money on behalf of USA for Africa to aide people who were dying  from famine. It was a serious song and not  a love ballad or upbeat dance song. It was a song that was written and sung with the purpose to raise awareness and raise money to help people live and to do so in dignity.

WATW for Haiti was redone for the same purpose. Hopefully biases and will not stand in the way from people's hearts. Hopefully people's dissatisfaction that MJ didn't pop up and BAM...comeback will not stand in the way from them reaching inside of their hearts and pockets to help others who are struggling to reclaim their lives, dignity and their nation.

I am pleased that Lionel granted permission for the song to be used for a noble and beautiful purpose. Imagine if it had been used in some dumb tv ad to promote some stupid product. Now that would be the reason to whine and complain.

There is more to life than Michael Joe/Joseph Jackson and this f-ing hoax. Come on  people...priorities, priorities, priorities...
