Ownership of Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch Remains Deadlocked in Legal Battles

When the eccentric and deeply troubled superstar Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 in 2009, he was over $500 million in debt. With many of the late singer's assets in probate, the fate of his fabled Neverland Ranch - once the site of private zoos, amusement park rides and a basketball court - launched legal battles that continue to this day.


LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Most of Jackson's surviving relatives say that the 2,500-acre property must stay in the family in order for his three children to inherit their birth home, the attorney for Jackson family matriarch Katherine Jackson says.

Eighty-two-year-old Katherine's role has remained Jackson's three children, Prince, 15, Paris, 14, and Blanket, 10. There are accusations by five of Katherine's other seven living children that the co-executors of Michael's debt-ridden estate, attorneys John Branca and John McClain, falsified the will.

Katherine remains the central figure because the will ultimately gives her 40 percent of the estate, of which McClain and Branca are executors until all debt and litigation are settled. Michael's children will also receive 40 percent, and the final 20 percent intended for charity.

Michael Jackson's formerly troubled estate has since generated $475 million in revenue in three short years, bringing all debt current and making a decision on the land possible within the next year.

"It is the wish of the beneficiaries that Neverland be kept in the family and Michael's children get to one day decide what to do with their old family home," Perry Sanders, Katherine Jackson's attorney, told The Daily.

"Unfortunately, the way things are set up in the trust code and state code, the trustees get to make decisions about the assets of the estate. So consequently, we're not aware of anything happening with it."

There had been discussion that the Neverland Ranch would become a tourist destination in the manner of Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in Memphis, or into a world-class music school. Animal rights advocates, such as the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals want the land to be converted into a sanctuary for rescued exotic animals.

Singer Jermaine Jackson, Michael's older brother by four years had lobbied hard for the land to be developed into an amusement park, museum and concert venue celebrating his brother's legacy.

The chief executive officer of Colony Capital, the California investment firm that saved Neverland from foreclosure by buying Michael's $23 million mortgage in 2008, predicted he could sell the ranch for an astronomical $100 million. Santa Barbara County, where Neverland is located, has assessed the ranch's value at $29.2 million for tax purposes.

Hundreds of fans crowded Neverland's still-locked entrance last month, on the third anniversary of Michael Jackson's death. Many of those who had gathered there agreed it would be wonderful to transform the ranch into a testament to Jackson's life.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Am I the only one who finds it interesting that a Catholic website is posting this article? At any rate, I think we should continue to watch and see what develops.

I wonder if Michael would be afraid to go back to Neverland until his name is fully cleared and Sneddon is held accountable. If those things don't happen I'd be highly concerned of Sneddon and his group doing a witch hunt again.

I hope Neverland Ranch stays with the family so the family can turn it into something that honors Michael Jackson. I would also like to see what Michael Jackson's children want to do with Neverland Ranch.

Yes @voice.....I had the same thought, CatholicOnline?  Sneddon is big time Catholic, I believe......very involved with his parish etc.  I wrote a post a very long time ago about the church and him. 

I have always believed that Neverland will remain in the family, as it should.  From recent fly-overs, it's apparent someone is there taking care of the property.  It's such an amazingly beautiful place.  Just looking at the pictures brings a bit of tranquility to my mind.  I can't even imagine what it would be like to be there in person.  Just beautiful.......

Is it only a "coincidence" that every time Michael was accused of child molestation, this happened almost simultaneously with some scandals related to CATHOLIC priests accused of child molestation ! :icon_exclaim: :icon_question: They used Michael both ways: to cover UP their own filthy DIRT and shut him down as he was becoming more and more DANGEROUS to the TPTB.
The tabloids being both PAID and FED with what they wanted more: a scandal about the SUPERSTAR would sell BETTER than a scandal about catholic priests! Plus: they wouldn't have been allowed to MOCK, RIDICULE and SLANDER the Catholic Church as they were almost INVITED to do in the case of Michael Jackson!! This at the same time, "conveniently" turned the public's attention out of the Catholic's area towards Michael's image. The masses of people totally ignoring the real atrocities committed to children and being manipulated towards believing the LIEs about Michael Jackson!

2003- Michael is accused for a second time; Michael is acquitted!! yet the media STILL portrays him as guilty !!

And this Catholic Consortium DARES to call him "eccentric and deeply troubled" in an article 3 years after his death ('death") ?? this is outrageous!!  :icon_twisted: Don't they look at themselves first!?? Who's deeply troubled and BIZARRE?? THEY ARE!!

The only owner of Neverland is Michael...it's in his heart  :bearhug: and  never will separate from his ranch.. :icon_razz:

What a lot of people don't know, or have failed to realize is Michael transferred the title for Neverland to Sycamore Valley Ranch, Llc. in 2008. Sycamore Valley Ranch, Llc. is an affiliate of Colony Capital, the company that (ahem) 'rescued' the 'distressed' property. Whether directly, or indirectly, Michael has always maintained ownership in his Neverland property.

The proper and legal definition of an affiliate: A person, organization, or establishment associated with another as a subordinate, subsidiary, or member.

In layman's terms, an affiliate is closely connected or associated with an individual, business, company, etc..

Michael knew then exactly what he was doing. I don't believe the estate was ever in financial distress. He was protecting his assets.

Thank you for all the interesting articles and videos!

Seems there's so much more for MJ to take on than measly Tom Sneddon and the Chandlers, but the whole %$@$! Catholic/Zionist establishment.  Michael fights the dragon and wins!

My heart goes out to you Michael for what you've gone through, and so much respect for all who have stood up for you and researched to get to the real reasons for all this happening!
