Trying a little logic...
Knowing the state of the world, the corruption on every level, the ultimate projected outcome ( for those in the know), the fact that one is very conscious of and comitted to the wellbeing of your family, the unfortunate fact that, for now anyway, this planet is running on the monetary system, intelligence itself would direct M to take the very actions he has since 2009. When you're worth more and have more influence when 'dead' than alive, the choice becomes clear and fairly simple from a pragmatic perspective.
