Title: Website after hack
Post by: ~Souza~ on March 28, 2012, 06:30:41 AM
As you all have noticed, the site was hacked so I have been re-installing everything the last two days. I made a complete new forum install and only copied the most important things such as posts and members to this new install. This can mean that your profile settings have changed, just check your profile to set it again as you are used to. It's also possible that your avatar is gone, or that your signature is not as it should. These are all things you need to fix yourself.

Also, anyone who has the direct link of the forum in their bookmarks, need to change that link from http://www.michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/smf2.0/index.php to http://www.michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/forum/index.php. Also: clear your browser cache and delete cookies. If you don't know how that works, please ask someone who does or do a Google search.

If you encounter any problems that you can't fix yourself in your profile, please post in this thread and I will see if I can help out.

Please walk through your profile settings to make sure it's not something you can fix yourself first before you post any problems. New feature (or returned actually) is the blog option, you can find that in your profile. Here you can start your own blog outside the forum. A link to the blogs can be found in the menu, although that link will only work when there is an actual blog to show, it will give an error now until someone posts.

Last but not least: can everyone please either follow the MJDHI facebook page or Twitter account? I got numerous questions in all kinds of ways about what was going on, while I will always update Twitter or Facebook in case there is something wrong with the forum. Now I had to repeat myself every time.

If you notice anything strange again in the future, notify me immediately and I will check it out. I installed new security programs, so I hope this will not happen again.

ps: the menu on top changed a litte. Home is going to the main website, Portal goes to the forum homepage with the latest posts etc.

Another ps: It's possible Smileys and special characters from old posts don't show as they should. I can't help that but I can change it if really necessary.

Souza thank you for all you have done in the past and all you do now.  The thyme and effort you put into this site is amazing for this I am grateful to you.  I was generally lost while we were down.  Not that I don't have a million things going on and to do, it's just this has become such a part of my life.  To those hackers out there with nothing better to do, please go do something more productive and leave us alone, we aren't hurting you.  Thank you again Souza, you are one in a million.  Love to you and everyone here!  :bearhug:

Hello Souza,
I'm a little confused. I did delete the Cookies and the Cache of today. But still it is the same, both adress are redirecting me to other sites.
I can only use this Forum when I access it under "Community". Or have I to delete all Cookies and the whole Cache? Do I need a new Password
for my account than? Sorry for my Questions, but I m not such technical Fox like you. At least I wanted to thank you for your hard work, you are
really incredible.

Much Peace and Love to everyone.

I'm not sure why a hacker would bother anymore, you always fix it, they never succeed, what's the point? Thanks, Souza. The day you give up and go away is the day we all cry at the same time.

Slightly off topic, but maybe not - I deleted cookies and emptied my cache and the whole of my internet activity (not just here) has speeded up to instantaneous!!  Impressive or what!  Is this something I should be doing periodically anyway regardless of obvious problems?  Sorry if this sound incredibly stupid, but I'm trying to learn!

That has something to do with special characters. Go to the portal, then select the language 'english utf-8' in the profile block on the left. You should be able to post again after that.

No, but I wouldn't send important stuff through pm on here anyway, it would be better to use email for that.

Anyway, this hacker just put virusses in the code of the site and didn't hack any of the databases.

Thanks for posting the help site, because it's much faster for me as well.

Andrea, I tried different things a bunch of times before my avatar took.
What worked is I put my pic choice on our forum image uploader.

Thanks Souza for all you hard work on the getting the Forum back up.

I am still having problems with those damn redirects to the advertising sites. I have cleared my cache and browsing history multiple times (I have lost count the number of times) however I still get redirected.

It seems to happen when I click on the Portal tab. I am using the new link Souza posted to get to the Forum and that is still redirecting for me. No matter how many times I clear my cache and browsing history it's still happening. I am using Google Chrome.

I don't know what else to do - can anyone help me please? Sorry to be a pain.

Try flushing your dns cache.

To clear DNS Cache, do the following:
1. Start
2. Run
3. Type "cmd" and press enter
4. In the command window type "ipconfig /flushdns"
5. If done correctly it should say "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."

Everything is super fast for me :compute:, the only thing is that certain pages I'm not able to post, and others I can--weird...  :computer-losy-smiley:
The other bothersome thing is that the "unread posts" on top doesn't show more than about one post or none, and then after I post on some thread, right after it will show ALL the new posts from everyone. :icon_eek:

For those trouble posting: go to the portal and change your language in your profile bar on the left to 'english utf-8'. That should solve the problem.

Try flushing your dns cache.

To clear DNS Cache, do the following:
1. Start
2. Run
3. Type "cmd" and press enter
4. In the command window type "ipconfig /flushdns"
5. If done correctly it should say "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."

Thanks bec.....I will give this a go and see if it fixes things.

I did this and it came up with the message "successfully flushed  etc etc........" However I am still experiencing the redirects everytime I click on the Portal tab or the Homepage tab. I also cleared my cache and browser history numerous times again in Google Chrome

The only way I am managing to get to the Forum is by clicking on the link Souza posted to this topic on the MJDHI Twitter page. Once I am here if I click on the Portal or Homepage to see the other threads or recent posts I am redirected to this below:

http://www.shouthostdirect.com/flashplayer-noautostart/index.php?ip=199.16.186.44&port=8602

I don't know what else to do to resolve this issue. Is anyone else having the same problems as I am or am I the only one?

Hi Adi,

I had the same problem. I was able to bypass that by running my browser in "private mode". I don´t know if that´s available on your browser as well.
Now, all of a sudden, everything works fine even without private mode.

However I  can´t reach the main website. Have tried to click on "Homepage" as Souza told us to, but nothing will show up.

Homepage is not available, so you can't click that indeed. Just the forum. Let me know as soon as the redirects stop.

Ah I see. Thank you for letting me know.
As for the redirects: as I told Adi above: they have stopped now since yesterday (for me at least). All of a sudden.

It is also for me, suspicious mind. But now old link is working better than new link.

And a few days ago I started having problems with the site, when I opened the old site, it redirected me to the advertisement. I cleared the cookies and cache, but it did not work. Then I just added this page in the list as blocked pages. I do not know that I can to do else. I am not strong in the technical issues.

Damn hackers!  >:( I do not know where you are from, but you need to know if you lived in my country, you would now be sitting in jail. I'm not kidding.

Sorry Souza for my words  :icon_redface:

Souza, I am thinking, suspicious mind meant old forum, which was earlier. There was link www.michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/smf2.0. Now it is www.michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/forum/index.php. Old link worked all this time. Now I tried to go in old link, but it is not worked. Though, old link worked five minutes ago.

 :-\

Nothing is working for me.

This is the only topic I can get to and I get here from the link posted on the MJDHI Twitter. I have tried the dns cache flush, cleared all cookies from my browser and cleared my cache, done virus checks, gone into Incognito mode in Google Chrome, changed my browser to Internet Explorer 9 and set it to Private Mode........... all to no avail.

As soon as I click on the Portal tab it always redirects me now to this page: http://www.shouthostdirect.com/flashplayer-noautostart/index.php?ip=199.16.186.44&port=8602

It used to always redirect to all different advertising pages but now it is only to the link above.

This happens everytime no matter how many times I flush my dns cache, clear my cookies and web browser cache.

Souza, is the website still Hacker free? has all the interference  from these Hackers been fully removed (or whatever it is that happens)?

Is there anything else I can do? I am getting really frustrated and feel like giving up.

Hello everyone,

I have the Problem with the redirects too, now when I try to login it redirects me too. I did clean my cache, cookies and even delete
parts of my history. What else can I do? I feel a little bit helpless right now.

Much Peace and Love to everyone.

Souza is way better at this stuff then I am but if you're seriously out of ideas I know a couple other things you can try.

Try downloading a different browser, Chrome, FireFox, Safari, whatever, and see if the site loads on the new browser. If it does, that's your easiest fix. Use that browser for this site only if you want, that's what I do. A couple of boards ago I got stuck like you guys and the site wouldn't load past the first 2 posts on any page and nothing worked to fix it. Finally I just downloaded Chrome and it loaded fine. I was too lazy to switch everything else over so I just use Chrome for this site and FireFox for everything else.

Or... if you run Windows you could always try to use a system restore. Pick a date before this happened when everything was running fine and restore Windows. Then delete the old bookmark and click the new link and bookmark it.

Souza probably has better solutions then me though, do bear in mind, but I totally sympathize with you having trouble accessing the site. Hang in there.

Thanks bec and MaryK for your advice.

I finally got it sorted! YAY   :woohoo2:

This might help anyone who is still having problems with the redirections:

Yesterday when I tried to quickly click on another topic before it redirected to that Shouthost.com site my Virus scanner came up with a warning about a Trojan called FakeAd. So I did a full system scan and also ran a Malware program over my full system and it picked up 2 virus/spyware called: Troj/Mdrop-DWU and Troj/FakeAd.

So I deleted them and did a reboot then cleared my Web browser cache and cookies again and also did another  flush dns then was able to load the Forum properly and now when I click on the Portal tab it doesn't redirect.

Glad that is sorted.

Safari is working fine, only issues when site was hacked.

Thank you, dear Souza, for all of your hard work. Hackers suck, no matter how you slice it. They do it simply for what they think is "fun," then go onto their next "target."

I totally impressed with your computer knowledge. :affraid:  All I can boast about is that I have a son who is 22, and when I’m RE-E-ALLY desperate with my MJHDI problems :Crash:, he helps me out! :smiley-vault-misc-150: :icon_geek:
Not this time but the time before he changed us over to Chrome.

Deleted navigation history? Or did you delete cookies and cleared your cache completely? Did you also scan for tracking cookies on your pc?

The pm's are only accessable if they manage to hack the database. That didn't happen, it was just the site itself, so no worries. The only one who can read pm's are the ones that send them, those who receive them, and me, but I only have access to them if I search through the database, I can not log into anyone's account without changing passwords. Nevertheless, it is always possible that the database will be hacked one day. I do my best trying to avoid that, but I am not superwoman so never discuss personal things in pm here, but use email for that.
