MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Over the years, Lisa Marie Presley has become dissatisfied with movies chronicling her father's life, so she just might make a film about the rock `n' roll icon. The daughter of Elvis Presley said she has been in talks about a movie, though she didn't offer a timetable.
"There's not been anything done properly with him yet, you know, that has satisfied me in terms of capturing everything," she told The Associated Press. "It will happen, though."
Presley, who rarely gives interviews, was at Graceland this week to attend the opening of a new exhibit. "Elvis Through His Daughter's Eyes" is a personal look at Lisa Marie and includes her baby shoes, her first record player and a small white fur coat – touchstones from her days living at Graceland, her father's longtime Memphis home until his death Aug. 16, 1977.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Elvis' death, which is observed each August with a week long gathering of fans in Memphis. Officials anticipate as many as 75,000 people, the number that showed up in 2007 for the 30th anniversary.
Presley lived at Graceland until she was 5, which is when her mother Priscilla divorced Elvis and moved with Lisa Marie to California. She continued to visit Graceland, and she smiles when talking about the time spent with her dad, such as when they would ride a golf cart through the neighborhood together. She recalled waiting for her father to make his daily entrance down the stairs.
"He was always fully, fully geared up. You'd never see him in his pajamas coming down the steps, ever," she said. "You'd never see him in anything but `ready to be seen' attire."
Elvis, a renowned car and motorcycle aficionado, also was known to leave the grounds and hang out with locals in the neighborhood.
"Sometimes he would go and there would be a convoy and everybody would follow," she said. "He'd be going down Elvis Presley Boulevard and you would see these devices riding down the road, of all sorts."
Lisa Marie has spent much of the past few years taking care of her 3-year-old twin daughters she had with husband Michael Lockwood. She has two children from a previous marriage to musician Danny Keough, which ended in 1994. She also was married to actor Nicholas Cage and pop star Michael Jackson. Presley did not want to talk at length about Jackson. The exhibit displays a photo of her and Jackson visiting a children's hospital in Budapest, Hungary. "It was just one of the moments that was captured ... we were helping this child get a liver transplant," she said. When asked what comes to mind when she thinks of Jackson, she said: "I can only say that I have good memories."
Lisa Marie has found time to make a new record, her third. Set for release in May, the album is being produced by Grammy-winner T-Bone Burnett. Presley said she stays involved with the workings of Elvis Presley Enterprises, which licenses her father's name and image in merchandising, music, television and film. Likenesses of Elvis have appeared in countless movies and TV shows, some without permission.
"There can be a sort of cheesy take on him, which I don't always love sometimes – you know, the later years and that whole thing with his white jumpsuit," she said. "Now I'm probably over it. But I mean it was kind of running wild for a while. It was a little bit cringe-worthy."
For her movie, Presley envisions something like "Walk the Line," the Johnny Cash biopic starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Presley, the heir to her father's estate, said she is glad the business is back in the hands of a private company, Apollo Management Group. The private equity group purchased CKx Inc., which owns Elvis Presley Enterprises and the "American Idol" franchise, in May.
She likes the idea of updating exhibits and the Heartbreak Hotel at the Graceland tourist attraction across the street from the home. She also would like to see revitalization of the poverty-stricken neighborhoods near Elvis Presley Boulevard.
"It makes me sad to see that, it does, because I remember when it wasn't there," she said. "I don't like to see that anywhere I am, to be honest."
Memphis officials have for years talked about improving some of the areas around Graceland, but nothing has been done. Graceland is one of Tennessee's most visited tourist attractions.
As for the exhibit, Presley said one of her favorite items is the key used to operate the golf cart because it helps her recall when she was alone with her father, riding around the neighborhood.
"That was my life," she said. "I carried it everywhere. It was never far from me or not on my person when I was a child. I hadn't seen it in 35 years."[/b][/i]

Lisa Marie Presley celebrated her birthday today at Graceland to launch the new "Elvis...Through His Daughter's Eyes" Exhibit. USA Today and Good Morning America sat down with Lisa Marie to talk about her experiences growing up at Graceland. In an article by USA Today, Lisa Marie talks about her reaction when first seeing many of her childhood keepsakes - including a blue record player that spun her first 45s and a re-creation of Presley's nursery.
"When I walked in and saw that, I gasped," said Presley. "I was going between laughter and wanting to break down in tears."
In a private tour with Good Morning America's Cameron Mathison, Lisa Marie talked about her favorite childhood past-times.
“What I remember is him waking me up to do things. Like, get in the golf cart and go take me for a ride in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of the morning or at some point when he probably shouldn’t have been doing that (laughs). It was always really special for me to get in the golf cart with him, be alone with him,” Presley told Mathison.
The new exhibit, included in the Graceland VIP Tour, features 200 items assembled by Lisa Marie and the Graceland Archives team. The personal exhibit looks at Lisa Marie's experience of growing up with a famous father. Home movies, toys and rarely-seen family mementos are among the many items that are on display.

Lisa Marie Presley's last visit to Graceland was at Thanksgiving for dinner in the dining room of the home where she spent most of her first 9 years. She returned Wednesday to celebrate her 44th birthday and the opening of a new exhibit looking at her father through her eyes.
"Elvis . . . Through His Daughter's Eyes" opened for a two-year run as part of the $70 VIP tour of Graceland. It is the home where Lisa once rode golf carts across the rolling landscape. The key to her old cart is among 201 items in the exhibit that ranges from a re-creation of her childhood nursery to common themes in her life and her father's.
Presley arrived with 3 of her own children at her side, twin daughters Finley and Harper and daughter Riley. Their brother, Benjamin, wasn't with them, but a photo of him in the exhibit shows a striking resemblance to his famous grandfather. "It scares me sometimes," said Lisa, who helped put together the exhibit with Graceland curator and archivist Angie Marchese.
Lisa said the photo of a Thanksgiving dinner in the exhibit was taken in the Graceland dining room last Thanksgiving. It is a room seen by an average of 600,000 tourists a year. To her, it is home. "Every time we come here, we at least have a family dinner." She used to return to Graceland to spend the night occasionally, but now limits her visits to dinners. "We do it once the tours shut. Then the kitchen fires up and the house comes alive."
Tourists would make overnight visits more difficult, she said. "I don't think I would be up and out quick enough in the mornings."
Marchese said part of the goal of the exhibit is to focus on Elvis as a father rather than as a rock music icon and actor. "Lisa understands what her dad did, but the stories that ring true when she talks were that he was her father."
It isn't part of the exhibit, but Marchese said Lisa told her she recalls Elvis punishing her only once -- with a paddle. "She said she couldn't remember why she was punished, but that he then apologized by coming to her with a puppet on his hand and talked to her through the puppet."
Though she thinks of Elvis first as "my father," Lisa said, one of the common themes in their lives is entertainment. Lisa has two albums that went gold and a third to be released in May.
"T-Bone Burnett produced it. It's more rootsy, more organic than the first two albums," said Lisa, who named the album Storm and Grace after one of the new songs, all of which she wrote.
"I'm so into bringing Memphis music back. I know everybody loves Nashville right now, and Nashville likes to take all the glory. But this is where it all started," she says, referring to the blues as one of the major roots of music and Memphis as the birthplace of rock.
Another parallel between her life and her dad's is a love of fashion. As a child she wandered through his upstairs closet. "It was always colorful and incredible," she said, and jeans and T-shirts weren't part of his everyday wardrobe. "You would never see that. He was always decked out even if he was lounging around home."
Growing up with famous parents was never a burden for her, she said. "I've understood it. You define your relationship with it. You have to navigate, and I don't regret anything."
It often turned Lisa into a tabloid target, including during pregnancy. "I always photograph bigger than I am," she said. "They also exaggerate photographs too. They continuously tried to bloat me and make me look like my father and make it look like the same fate."
She's candid despite her high-profile life. When a Graceland spokesman asks her to take a break to touch up her makeup, she asks: "What, do I look like hell or something?"
Her candor is another legacy of both her mother, Priscilla, and her father that comes through in the exhibit. She said her parents helped make her childhood as happy as possible. The exhibit doesn't delve into their divorce, but Lisa said when the marriage was ending she was never aware of it.
"They never showed it. He'd come over in the middle of the night. They would go to school together for meetings. I never knew it. They did a good job."

Also I've been trying to find a short video clip of MJ telling media in possibly 2008, that his finances are great and that he just signed a cheque for $500 million.
Does anyone know where that one is? Almost all videos and news talk about how broke he was, and that his life-time earnings were only $500 million, which is such a funny joke. Anyway I've always wondered what in the world did MJ buy with that amount. Any thoughts?

Her reaction to the question about whether time has helped her get over Michael's death was very interesting. She said, time has helped...but...it's a process. Something one is learning to live with. She averted her eyes, her hands fisted. It was very interesting, indeed. No wonder her marriage is in trouble- mine would be too, if, after 2 1/2 years I was still obviously struggling with the "death" of my exhusband.
My brain always runs Michael-centric, so much of what she said reminded my of Michael...from Elvis' closet, to his "amazing clothes," to the golfcart.
Interesting that she chose a picture of Michael and her in Budapest. He also chose footage from that trip to that hospital in his homemovies. Must have been a favored memory by both of them.
To be honest, I was blown away that she mentioned Michael at all. And even more so, that she included a picture of them in the exhibit.

I just watched both videos. I noticed that both Michael and Elvis had a pet monkey or chimp. Elvis had peacock stained glass and actual peacocks. Michael and the Jackson5 had also used peacocks.
What do peacocks symbolize ? Is it unity, rainbow, ? I saw on one of your links the other day that it was a gnosis or gnostic symbol.
And I see what you mean about the "key" being emphasized. I didn't realize that Elvis and Michael had so many similarities until now.

That's interesting that Elvis said that re-incarnation has to be real. I've been thinking about re-incarnation and resurrection lately also.

So you think any blood relation is important ?? Maybe your right because if Elvis comes back then we need relatives to prove that it's really him. People won't believe it after 33 or so years. I don't know. Anyway, I just thought Oprah had them on for interviews just because they are big stars. I think it's obvious though, that Oprah is in on the hoax along with Larry King, Coke, Brittney Spears and others.

So besides the "coincidence" with the Footprints both in Lisa's exhibit and at the Footprint ceremony with MJ's kids, there we have Lisa showing her dresses that she had worn when she was with Michael!! What do those dresses have to do with the title of her 2012 exhibit: "Elvis, through a daughters' eyes"?? those dresses are not related to her father! What is the reason why she included those particular dresses in an exhibit dedicated to her father's memory?

Even in the context of the bizarre, twisted fairy tale of Michael Jackson's life, the time he spent living in a converted cowshed in rural Ireland shortly before he died takes some believing. But in the summer of 2006, after his acquittal in the previous year's court case, having left Neverland and spent some time in Bahrain, the King of Pop secretly arrived in County Westmeath with his children. Relieved he had found a sanctuary away from the paparazzi and enchanted by an area so rich in history, myth and folklore, Jackson ended up staying for the rest of the year.
I've been given some odd assignments by the Observer, but none quite so off the wall as sleeping in what used to be Michael Jackson's bed, after discovering that the Irish country homes he stayed in are now available to rent for weekend breaks.
Grouse Lodge is a secluded Georgian estate located down an unsigned, winding, potholed gravel drive near the village of Rosemount. It was converted into a residential recording studio in 2002 by owners Paddy and Claire Dunning, and has been used by everyone from REM to Doves, Muse to Ms Dynamite, Snow Patrol to Shirley Bassey. Paddy is a modern-day renaissance man in his mid-40s whose life at times seems only slightly less fantastical than Jackson's. He started out as a Dublin dustman and became one of the founding fathers of the resurgence of the Temple Bar district of the capital. Now his Dublin businesses include Temple Lane Studios, the Sound Training Centre, the Button Factory nightclub and The National Wax Museum Plus.
In 2006 a woman called Grace Rwaramba arrived to check out Grouse Lodge studio for an unnamed A-list pop star. She liked what she saw and booked the studio plus a three-bed cottage on the grounds that had been converted from a cowshed. But she still didn't reveal who the artist was. Paddy and Claire only discovered the identity of their new lodger when a bus turned up and out trooped Prince Michael Junior, Paris and Blanket, followed by their father Michael Jackson, nanny Grace and the children's tutor.
Grouse Lodge is set around an old farmyard, and there's a collection of converted outbuildings that form a second grassed courtyard, none of which is visible from the road, so it's not hard to see why Jackson felt safe and secluded here. He began work on new material at Grouse Lodge with Will.I.Am and Rodney Jerkins, producers who flew in from America.
Jackson fell in love with County Westmeath and, after a month in the converted cowshed, moved to the equally secluded neighbouring estate of Coolatore, also owned by the Dunnings. Because Jackson didn't have his own driver in Ireland, Paddy enlisted local taxi driver Ray O'Hara to drive Michael and the kids around in a borrowed people carrier with blacked-out windows.
The Dunnings somehow managed to keep the fact that the King of Pop was in residence a secret for several months. Even when Jackson began to venture out and there were rumoured sightings of him in the nearby villages of Moate or Kilbeggan, the Dunnings would deny all knowledge. "If someone said to me I've heard Michael Jackson is there, I would tell them: 'Yeah, so is Elvis Presley!' says Paddy.
The only security Grouse Lodge arranged was to post three guards on rotation at the top of the drive to intercept unwelcome visitors. When word eventually began to leak out, locals in the know became protective of Jackson, sending reporters the wrong way, and one farmer even threatened to empty his slurry trailer over the car of a paparazzo.
The Irish Midlands are often overlooked by people rushing from Dublin to Galway or other parts of the west coast, but it's a magical land dotted with ringforts and medieval castles. Within a few miles of Coolatore are the twin historic hills of Cnoc Aiste and Uisneach; there's Lough Ennell and Lilliput, where Jonathan Swift first conceived Gulliver's Travels (Paddy is planning on an eco village in woods near Lough Ennell, along with a seven-storey model of Gulliver); and Locke's Distillery in Kilbeggan, now a museum. There are also a few local pubs that haven't changed for decades, such as the William Fox in Loughnavalley, and Gunnings in Rathconrath, which doubles as shop, newsagent, garage and community centre.
Traditionally, the hill of Uisneach is the geographical centre of Ireland. It's only 600ft high, but from the top you can see 20 counties on a clear day. It was the ancient seat of the kings of Meath, the most sacred site in the world in Pagan times, and home of the ancient festival of the fires, Bealtaine, which attracted Egyptians up the Shannon 2,000 years ago. It's also home to the Cat Stone (or Stone of Divisions), said to be the burial place of the goddess Ériu (who gave her name to Ireland, or Eire) and where the ancient provinces of Ireland were divided.
Uisneach is now part of the farm belonging to David Clarke, and on 1 May this year, Clarke and Paddy organised the first Festival of the Fires for more than 1,000 years, attracting a diverse mix of locals, farmers, clairvoyants, witches, wizards and gurus from far and wide. A beacon was lit on Uisneach, sparking a chain of fires on 73 different hills across the country, from Dingle to Donegal. "Michael was interested in history," says Paddy, "and smitten by the intricacies of Irish music."
The Dunnings have a wealth of stories from the time they spent with Jackson. "One night we ended up in the studio," Paddy recalls. "Michael was on the drums, I was playing guitar and [American producer] Nephew was on the keyboards and we just started getting a rhythm together, and slowly but surely Nephew just creeped the song in to 'Billie Jean'. It was just mad playing 'Billie Jean' with Michael Jackson – I never thought I'd do that."
Paddy is a natural raconteur. He tells me how, when he bought the Wax Museum Plus – Dublin's answer to Madame Tussauds – the resident Elvis was looking a little tired, so Paddy retired him, placing him in the woods by Coolatore. He had forgotten about him until Michael Jackson came in from a walk one day looking shaken. "Paddy," he said, "I just met my father-in-law in the woods!"
Towards the end of his stay in Westmeath, Jackson started to look at prospective houses to buy. When the Dunnings bought a further property, Bishopstown House, a derelict Georgian estate a mile or so away, Jackson visited it and discussed the renovations with Paddy. So, although it would be a little disingenuous to call Bishopstown the House that Jacko built, it's certainly the house built with Jacko in mind. Jackson had a base in London for his ill-fated 50-date run of gigs at the O2, but according to Paddy he also planned to spend time in Ireland, escaping the media glare of the English capital.
Both Coolatore and the newly converted Bishopstown are now available for hire. Coolatore is the larger estate of the two – a beautiful 1866 Victorian country retreat with long halls and vaulted ceilings, grand living and dining rooms, a library and a hidden staircase that leads down to a basement bar installed by the Guinness family. Bishopstown, having been derelict for years before the Dunnings took it over, has been converted in a much more contemporary style, with a wood- clad extension added to the original Georgian house, along with a secret fourth-floor roof garden, designed to afford Jackson panoramic views of the countryside without being seen himself. Both houses have six bedrooms and five bathrooms.
The houses are rented primarily as self-catering properties, and if you use all the available beds, they can work out costing €100 a night each. It is also possible to have meals supplied by nearby Grouse Lodge (they can also arrange everything from massages to clay pigeon shooting), with menus focusing on local produce and vegetables grown in their own walled garden. Claire and the staff at Grouse Lodge cooked for Jackson, who favoured a simple, healthy diet of porridge for breakfast and main meals of fish or chicken with vegetables. "The guy was fit – he was getting stronger," Paddy says, "and I reckon if he had lived here and stayed here, he wouldn't have died."

I'm also thinking of "Peacock Productions" : Prior to recording the new album, Michael and the brothers fought for even more creative control. They ended their partnership with Gamble and Huff and took full control of writing, choosing, producing and performing their own material. They formed their own production company, called “Peacock Productions” and each brother formed his own publishing company. It was the birth of Michael’s own publishing company: MiJac Music.

I love her voice....I really wish she would sing more. She had a few songs here and there...I did actually see her perform. It was awesome. I know people compare her to her daddy, yada yada... that girl can sing! Her show was amazing.....in her own right, Elvis' daughter or not. There is something about the tone of her voice I love. I don't typically like female singers/voices for some reason...just prefer a guy's voice. I can count on one hand (ok maybe 2 hands,lol) how many female voices I truly love on their own...her's is one.

@Simpa..... We have another mention of peacock here.....I clicked on the link Ahktoni posted in the Whitney thread and it was about the sale of a Jackson photo album. Now the reason I remember this fact is that the auction house is named Peacock Auctions :? and a double :? :? because it is located in Bedford England......This is where my only child lives now and lectures for her career. It blows my mind that something like this album would be auctioned at a small town like Bedford and not at a more prestigious venue in London. Wow....the coincidences. :? :shock: :? I'm sure I have mentioned about her somewhere in some post over the past 2+ years or maybe I have finally gone completely mad and see everything as related now.
A private collector based in Britain bought the album and is now selling it at WH Peacocks auctioneers in Bedford, Bedfordshire, next month.
The sale has already attracted huge interest in the U.S. and auction houses believe the lot will well exceed its base price of just £3,000.

I just have a dumb question, why did the reporter say of MJ's History album --"One of the songs is about how he single-handedly led to the fall of Communism. How he was the freedom fighter in the eastern Europe" ? Was he just mocking and cynical or did something significant happen? Maybe it was truly something God-sent, with more than meets the eye of observers.

Of course, Jackson himself was not responsible for the westernisation of eastern bloc culture singlehandedly, but his influence and willingness to engage with unfashionable nations in the 1990s and bring the biggest show on earth to their doorsteps did have a significant impact. Before talk of EU and NATO membership figures like Jackson embodied the West to the average Romanian or Hungarian. He practically personified its excitement, its wealth, its innovation along with its eccentricities, oddities and adulation of celebrity.
Jackson was not a man of outstanding intellect beyond the bounds of musical composition and showmanship, nor was he a politician or global statesman who could claim to represent anybody except himself, but in him and through him people expressed their desire to live as freely as he and his countrymen did. They came in unsurpassed numbers to see what western creativity and spectacle had to offer, and in so doing Jackson paved the way for others of his profession to follow him to the east and showed those enjoying new freedoms that their destiny, like his, lay in their own hands. Jackson was no Alexey Stakhnov, the Soviet state-sponsored mining hero, he was a new idol for new times in the east, a poor black boy who had used his talents to raise his family from poverty to prosperity and conquer the entertainment world, and for that reason he will always be remembered in the old eastern bloc.

And I agree: Lisa has talent, she has a very particular voice, a special original timber of voice that makes her unique, just like her Dad's voice! You can never make confusions between them and other artists.
Lisa may not have her father's charisma and his motivation , but she sure is talented and has the heart of an artist.

Me too! I prefer by far male voices!! And I also like Lisa's voice and I adore Patricia Kass also for her special distinct low and bluesy voice, very "velvet, soft" kind of voice! I think that's very sensual in a female artist!!
I love and I appreciate huge talents like Celine Dion, Sarah Brightman, Lara Fabian, Barbara Streisand, etc.... they all have splendid voices, great music, extreme beauty and everything, but when it comes to make my heart sing ...its only the low register voices....

I am not 100% sure that the situation was identical to all the other ex-communist countries, but I will tell you what happened in Romania!!
During the communist regime, anything that was western was CENSORED !! people were thrown to prison even just for listening a clandestine radio channel like "Free Europa" for example.
After 1989 (the Fall of the communism), the first western artist that ever came to concert in Romania was MICHAEL !! Not only was he the first, but he was the biggest Megastar ever! So this was seen like a really MAJOR event in Romania and all over the world! it was like a symbolic liberation, like a symbolic fall of the communist CENSORSHIP! After Michael gave that concert in Bucharest in 1992, many other foreign artists came here to sing! Michael really "gave the tone"!! Michael kind of put Romania on the map! Because until then, the rest of the globe had heard only horrifying things about Romania from the MEDIA!!! But when Michael's concert was broadcasted to 80 countries through HBO, people all over the world got to learn that the Romanian are not wild monkeys just fallen from the trees! but they actually were humans and even knew the lyrics to Michael Jackson's songs!!
So that was the impact that Michael had in Romania, and symbolically yes, at least in my country he can be considered as the "fall of the communism" loll Most probably he had the same impact on other ex-communist countries when he toured with Dangerous!
I also think that those stupid news-reporters were also ironical!! they were trying to belittle and to decrease the importance of what Michael did in these countries when he came here to sing! "they" didn't like the power that Michael had over people! "they" most certainly disliked the fact that Michael was received in all ex-communist countries, pretty much like a President! with all the preparing for an important head of State or Highly important diplomat! Michael was received by the Presidents of these countries! Michael was waited at the airports with traditional costumes and food, he was invited to visit the most important buildings in these countries! So Michael was becoming much too important for the "tastes" of the snakes behind the MEDIA!! (read TPTB!). That's why that video which I posted above ^^ is so full of B.S. against Michael! they were trying to discredit him in anyway they could!

Us Weekly reports that the 21-year-old British actor is engaged to Lisa Marie Presley's 22-year-old daughter after dating for only six months.
The couple were spotted on Monday getting lunch in Los Angeles and no one could ignore the giant rock Keough was sporting on her ring finger.
The couple met on the set of the upcoming male stripper movie, "Magic Mike," and were first seen kissing in October.
Pettyfer dated "Glee" star Dianna Agron for almost a year and broke things off in February 2011. The actor earned somewhat of a reputation as a loose cannon when it was reported that Agron was "terrified" of Pettyfer after he threatened her during a phone call. Reps for the actor denied that any threats were made.
Keough has also reportedly dated singer Ryan Cabrera and Jonah Hill.

Storm and Grace is a marked departure from the hard-edged sound of Presley's earlier albums - 2003's RIAA Gold-certified To Whom It May Concern and 2005's Now What, both of which debuted in the Top 10 of The Billboard 200. The organic instrumentation of Storm and Grace reflects her Southern roots, from the ominous, swampy vibe of lead single "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" and "Sticks And Stones" to "Soften The Blows" and the achingly beautiful title track, which evoke the ease of an impromptu back porch jam session.
Presley's smoldering alto is hypnotic in the rootsy opener "Over Me" as she reflects on being replaced in a lover's affections. While Storm and Grace offers an unflinching examination of life and love - beginning with her own shortcomings on "Un-Break" - there is a tender, consoling thread that runs throughout, pointing towards peace and reconciliation. "Weary" may concern a relationship that didn't work out, but it is suffused with a genuine warmth, as Presley sings: "I will always love you/you can move on, dear."
"Just over two years ago, I went to England to attempt to write another record after finding myself in a considerably disheartened and uninspired state creatively. Over an eight-month period, I wrote 30 songs. I was fortunate to be able to write with some incredible artists and singers such as Richard Hawley (from Pulp), Ed Harcourt, Sacha Skarbek and Fran Healy (from Travis), to name a few," recalls Lisa Marie Presley. Lisa Marie Presley’s Storm And Grace is the album she was born to make – a raw, powerful country, folk, blues collection that finds her embracing her Southern roots and family name.
Making the record’s Americana pedigree stronger is production by Grammy-award winner T-Bone Burnett (O Brother, Where Art Thou, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand). But the direction of the album was established well before Burnett came on. Presley traveled to England, where she collaborated with songwriters like Richard Hawley, Ed Harcourt and Travis’ Fran Healy, to find her roots.
Presley spoke to Rolling Stone about the album, why she felt more comfortable making an American record in England, how Burnett restored her faith in music and not fighting herself anymore.
It’s such a raw record, was it tough to make?
It was easy to make, but I had to go far in order to make it. I went to England; I was kind of uninspired and tapped out creatively from certain experiences previously on other records, so I just really needed to remove myself far away and get in a whole different setting. And I spent eight months getting used to being around there writing and it just really easily unfolded and really naturally and organically happened.
Did you know T-Bone would be coming to the project when writing?
No idea. It all happened with me telling Simon Fuller [her manager and CEO of XIX Entertainment], "I really don’t want to be in any typical situation anymore, I want to just remove myself entirely, go far away as I can." And thankfully he’s set up over there, so he just put me with different people. We wrote 30 songs in eight months between me and the writers. I had it, but I wasn’t in a hurry. I told Simon early on, a dream come true for me would be T-Bone. And I told him I loved Raising Sand and the whole thing. After I’d come back and I had the 30 songs written, I got a phone call, "T-Bone heard it and he wants you to go to his house at 5:00 and meet him." And I flipped out. I had no idea, I didn’t even know he had heard them.
What is so fascinating is you went to England to make a quintessential American record.(Laughs) I know, it’s completely crazy, isn’t it? I was supposed to be writing some kind of a synopsis about it today and I kept thinking it’s just so ironic – finally the earthy, organic, rootsy, bluesy record comes out of me in England with English writers. I can’t tell you how many times people would say, "Go to Nashville and write with these writers and do this and do that," and try to push me in that direction. And it just didn’t feel right for me. It wasn’t contrived, the songs were already there, they had their tones, their textures.
It is ironic, but maybe not that surprising given there is a long history of English musicians embracing and understanding American music.
It’s true, they happen to know American music history probably more than Americans do. They’re very well-educated on it. And this record’s always been in me – I am where I’m from, I’m never going to not be from the South. So it’s in my nature, it’s just that in the past there have been times where someone was deliberately trying to push me into the Nashville scene or scenes that just felt so contrived and unnatural to me.
Do you feel more comfortable with your roots as you’ve gotten older, or was it finding the right people?
It’s a great question and the answer is both. I'm always feeling a bit like I need to fight and kick, I don’t know why. But all I ended up doing in the past by trying to do anything else was stepping and tripping on my own feet. It didn’t prove anything to anyone to do something completely different that had nothing to do with anything. It was always against myself and hurting myself, though I was thinking I was fighting other people. I had to go through those phases, I did. So then, yes, I’m not doing that anymore. But it was also being around people I knew weren’t gonna do that with me. The writers I was with weren’t trying to push me in a direction, they had no agenda, some of them had never written with anyone before. Like Richard Hawley had never sat and written a song with anyone but Jarvis [Cocker] in the past. And he was kind of nervous because he was like, "I’ve only written with Jarvis." And then we wrote "Weary."
This record strikes me as being intensely personal. So how important was T-Bone in creating distance for you from the record and serving as a sounding board?
Just the fact that he wanted to do it fed life into me. My light was dimmed, the way the music industry had gone, I was disheartened. And about the second or third day in the studio I pulled him aside and said, "I just want to thank you, by doing this and believing in me and doing this record with me you’ve really given me some light again."
Are you a big Brit-pop fan?
It is something that my husband has migrated towards forever and he is actually the one who came up with the idea of writing with Richard. So then we kind of started heading down the road because it went so well, and Ed came on. For instance on the songs I wrote with Ed, he sings harmony with me and I’ve never had anyone else sing harmonies, I’ve always done my own. My management put me with lots of different people and I ended up gravitating and having a great thing with Richard, Ed, and Sacha Skarbek.
What do you take from it when you listen to this album?
In the past, by the time the records came out everyone heard them, everyone said, "Oh, this is nice, this is great, oh, I love the record, blah blah blah." I could never really get perspective on it and this time no one’s heard it, my mother hasn’t even heard this yet. It’s so personal that I haven’t really played it for anybody.
T-Bone really puts himself into a project. Will he be involved in any other capacity like in live shows for example?
I’ve adopted him as a paternal presence in my life, so any way I can have him around I would love to have him around. I just adore him, so I’ve definitely adopted him and let him know that. If I can have him on stage and it’s in the cards I would be really happy about that. The thing I wanted to say too was just the fact that I didn’t know we were gonna record it live. In the past you would do it a certain way, so it was a little bit out of my comfort zone but it was great. He told me like three days beforehand, "Oh, by the way, we’re doing it live." So I was like, "Oh my god." But it was really great to do it that way. It pushed me a lot.

Remember all the discussion on whether MJ had complete control on who would get on stage, and how much MJ liked to introduce crazy elements that seemed unscripted to add to the excitement. We discussed the boy running up on the cherry-picker during Earth song, and the huge attention it got. How could security be so lax? So during the Brit awards when MJ again sang Earth song, and dressed like Jesus, Jarvis Cocker ran up on staged, flashed his bottom, and said later it was because he thought many people were offended by the Jesus thing. Of course the newspapers had a hey-day saying MJ was angry and everyone thought Jarvis was a hero. But now I wonder again if this was not all staged as well. Huge controversy which "MJ lives for"! Now here's a connection to Lisa Marie.

LISA MARIE PRESLEY is demanding staff at her new English estate sign strict privacy contracts - and has already fired 2 employees for refusing to do so, according to a U.K. report.
Elvis Presley's daughter drew up the confidentiality agreement to prevent 'leaks' about her private life after she hit the headlines in Britain following her move into the town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on Tuesday (17Aug10).
The six-page document bans staff and their relatives from discussing details of the building, furnishings, and decor, including photos or mementos related to Presley's relatives.
And Presley is determined to retain her privacy - she immediately dismissed 2 cleaners who asked to first take legal advice.
A source tells Britain's The Sun, "It was like they were being asked to sign the Official Secrets Act. It was way over the top and they felt it was a total infringement of their human rights.
"Staff could not speak to their husbands, wives or even their grandchildren about what they did."
Presley reportedly picked the British town because of its vicinity to East Grinstead, Sussex - where Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard settled in 1959 after moving from the U.S. The star is a devout follower of the religion.

@Simpa..... We have another mention of peacock here.....I clicked on the link Ahktoni posted in the Whitney thread and it was about the sale of a Jackson photo album. Now the reason I remember this fact is that the auction house is named Peacock Auctions :? and a double :? :? because it is located in Bedford England......This is where my only child lives now and lectures for her career. It blows my mind that something like this album would be auctioned at a small town like Bedford and not at a more prestigious venue in London. Wow....the coincidences. :? :shock: :? I'm sure I have mentioned about her somewhere in some post over the past 2+ years or maybe I have finally gone completely mad and see everything as related now.
A private collector based in Britain bought the album and is now selling it at WH Peacocks auctioneers in Bedford, Bedfordshire, next month.
The sale has already attracted huge interest in the U.S. and auction houses believe the lot will well exceed its base price of just £3,000.

Great photo montages, and I can clearly see the resemblances! In fact I see more with Elvis and Lisa than I do with Michael (what does that say for Debbie...) One thought, how could Lisa not want to spend time with MJ's kids if hers? Or they not with her? You've put fascinating stuff together, but unless I saw some signs of the meeting even secretly between them, it just seems too emotionally depriving/impossible.
But I know that this whole hoax with all its mysteries and secrets requires lots of time and patience.
As the 'flower' s-l-o-w-l-y unfolds, we will be there to see it in all its beauty!

I know on another thread it was discussed that it doesn't matter if they are genetically MJ's children or not, and that's true. But at the same time MJ did actually say it was his sperm, so I don't think we should just dismiss it that quickly. It's a hurdle to think all 3, not just 1, could inherit straight brown hair and light skin with no black facial features. I found this site on children of slaves (often raped by owners).
Here's a pic of a boy showing how a mulatto woman with likely a white man can have white looking children with straight brown hair as the 3 Jackson kids have. There is another similar child shown here as well.

If Elvis only owned the house up the street from 100 Carolwood, from 1970 - 75, then what's the point of the connection, unless the house is still owned by the family or at least usable for the underground tunnel connection. Perhaps he still owns it and rents it. Who are the current owners? Does anyone know? Lisa was born Feb 1, 1968, so those were some of the years she lived with Elvis.

I thought about the tunnels as well. We have talked about tunnels from the near beginning. All the tunnels under UCLA...as well as tunnels under homes Michael has been associated with. It's all so Alice in Wonderland-ish : ) I don't think it's a coincidence that one of the terms used in ARGs is "rabbit hole"....too appropriate. I love the Elvis connections through this as well. I was so shocked to learn that Elvis' home in Hollywood was so close to Carolwood......I knew immediately that something must be up with that. I am astounded all the time by how much I have come to learn through this. The details are amazing.

You're so right about all the mysterious tunnels mentioned in this hoax, where so many secrets are happening.
And when you consider all the stories around the world of man-made miles of underground tunnels, catacombs, hideouts many stories deep, perhaps small cities, whispers of super-sonic highways in places like Area 51, Denver airport, the Great Pyramid, Temple mount, Himalayan mountains, and so many other places; small wonder we want to 'dig' further into this! I guess mankind has always had to go literally underground to effectively hide from prying eyes, authorities and above-ground terrors. Think of all the exciting movies that include that aspect --Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, the Da Vinci Code, etc.

I agree. There have been various discussion on MJ's finances way back. I believe he deliberately over-invested in hidden places under other names, pertinent to the hoax to appear that he is $400 million in debt to the media and public. There was one part of the 2003 Gary home-coming trip video where MJ is riding in the SUV with several fans, and one of them ask about how much money he has. MJ shyly says he doesn't want to say. After the fan suggests $2 billion, MJ says, "It's up there", kind of bashfully. That means either that it's under or over, and he so modest or clever in not specifying! :icon_cool: If that is true, what in the world happened from 2003 to 2009, to $2 Billion? :affraid: Even a few million dollar lawsuits aren't going to whittle that down too far.

It's not that they're big Lisa Marie fans -- although this song really isn't bad, I must say. No, the reason Scientology Watchers are fascinated by Lisa Marie's new single, "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet," released ahead of her new album Storm and Grace, is that the lyrics of this song sure read like a big middle finger to the Church of Scientology.
Give it a listen, and then let's go over the lyrics together.
In recent weeks, we'd heard rumblings that Presley, a longtime member, had grown disaffected with Scientology and had quietly walked away from it. (Similar rumors have been heard for years, so that's nothing new.)
If she has left, it won't be the first time a big-name celebrity ditched the church. As we reported earlier, even Tom Cruise spent a full decade all but out of Scientology while he was with Nicole Kidman, but both Cruise and the church managed to keep it quiet at the time.
Other celebrities, like actor Jason Beghe, have made their exits in a more noisy way.

For some thoughts about the song, I turned to Jefferson Hawkins, a man who at one time was in charge of marketing Dianetics to the world, and someone with a lot of expertise about both Scientology and messages in media. I asked Jeff, is Lisa Marie telling the church not so subtly to keep away from her?
Wow, it sure looks like it. I think the key is the use of the terms "unethical" and "suppressive," which are definitely Scientology-speak. It sounds to me like they are putting pressure on her and calling her out-ethics and suppressive, and this is her response -- you ain't seen nothing yet. Love it.
When Scientology excommunicates someone, it declares them a "suppressive person" or "SP," and instructs other Scientologists to "disconnect" from the SP -- even the members of the SP's own family. Church members live in fear of being "declared," and will do almost anything to stay in the good graces of the church so they can remain in contact with other family members.
No Scientologist of good standing would describe themselves (even jokingly) "a bit suppressive," as Lisa Marie labels herself here.
I also showed the lyrics to Chuck Beatty, a longtime former Scientologist with deep expertise in the church's arcane "technology" and lingo. Here's what he had to say...
Clearly it's way beyond what would be acceptable for a Scientologist in the fold to be implying, so it sounds to me like it's her declaration of "fuck you" to Scientology. Her use of the words suppressive, transgressive, critical, truth, and system all clearly would be taken as bad indicators at Scientology celebrity headquarters. The attitude sure sounds reminiscent of Elvis's "fuck you" comments to Scientology. Good for her!
I've put in an interview request to Lisa Marie's publicist, and let's hope that she wants to share with us her thoughts on the song.
I'm struck not only with the word "suppressive," which seems a dead giveaway, but also with the general thrust of the song. I mean, your typical pop song isn't likely to have this kind of sentiment in it...
"If I don't get with your system then I'm sure to fail"
Former Scientologists -- and I've talked to quite a few -- all tell me that one of the scariest things that faced them when they dropped out of the Scientology "system" was that they had been warned by church officials that they were ill-equipped to survive the "wog" (non-Scientology) world outside the organization, and that they would surely fail if they left the Sea Org, for example.
Also, for someone coming to the realization that they no longer belong in Scientology (and will suffer from "ethics" officers on the way out), there is hardly a more fitting characterization than...
"I don't respond, I've lost the plot
Unethical, not what I thought"
And with the church mired in controversy, with allegations of shocking abuse appearing in court testimony and in new press revelations, her words of warning to church leadership seem especially ominous...
"Am I a disruption to your corruption?
You ain't seen nothin' yet"
Well, we're obviously reading a lot of things into these lyrics that Lisa Marie may not have intended, but at the minimum this is an extremely unusual statement for a longtime Scientologist to make, and we hope she speaks publicly about it soon. (And hopefully, to us!)

I hope LMP is sending a message to Scientology with those lyrics - it certainly seems like it. I think that's a reason she moved to England for a while, to get away from them. England for the longest time, resisted Scientology and has only recently been accepted as a 'religion' there. It's definitely a cult and one that you have to pay a lot to belong to, plus they get whatever dirt on you that they can so they can trap you. I saw this video once of this guy from the BBC(?) interviewing someone who was either in or leaving scientology and wherever he went, the scientology people kept showing up and interrupting, very threateningly actually. This journalist was trying to expose scientology for what it is and even got interviews with celebrities involved in the cult and whenever he mentioned it's cult-likeness, the interview was shut down. So I do hope LMP is out or getting out.

A rare interview with Lisa Marie Presley in the May edition of Elle magazine tells all about her transformation from heir to the King of Rock 'n' Roll to finding her own place in the world and the upcoming release of her new album, "Storm and Grace."
Elle magazine music correspondent, Liza Ghorbani, sat down with Presley at her Medieval style estate outside of London, England. Lisa Marie talked about growing up the child of a music icon, her new album, and how motherhood has softened her once bad-girl image.
"I think people think I'm harder and more arrogant and cocky than I am
because I know how to put on a front ( :icon_eek: ),
but it's nothing like who I am inside. To be honest, I'm really overly,
scarily sensitive," said Lisa Marie.
Lisa Marie described her new album as no longer "pissed off and bitter"
but "exposing her vulnerability" and "laying her soul bare with a 'this is me,
take it or leave it' attitude."
"Her songwriting is brave and real. She's saying something," said Oscar-winning producer T Bone Burnett, who helped produce her latest album. "I think it helps Lisa Marie to have that genetic makeup, because there wasn't a better singer in the last century than Elvis Presley. Her dad had extraordinary taste and I think she got that from him."
Both Lisa Marie and Burnett tell Elle magazine the album is something Elvis would have been proud of and both are pleased to have achieved that goal.

Lisa seems to always be in such a troubled, unsettled place. How could her life have been so bad? She was never really "famous". I appreciate her trying to do music, but seriously...she really has no voice. I hope she finds her peace with her two little girls and husband in England. Sorry...just not a fan of LMP.

She is looking more gorgeous as the years go by, especially as she's lost the extra weight she put on, and is now pursuing singing more. There's something captivating about her personality--her movements and facial expressions--sort of tomboyish and 'I don't give a damn', not caring about the 'status quo'. I can totally see why MJ loved her--she is different than the other girls in his life.
I could listen/watch this video over and over. MJ only looks this way with her--'in love'! I sure would love an eventually happily-ever-after ending to this story. But... maybe if we 'keep watching'... My only criticism is she doesn't enunciate her words very well so I need to see the lyrics to know what she's singing for the most part. :icon_e_sad:

This is kinda a personal comment, but I've wanted to say for a while, that I'm proud of Lisa that she didn't give in to pressure to have breast enlargement like so many women all around Hollywood. She looks fabulous just the way she is! Guys, the more I read about Lisa life and look at the interviews and read about Elvis as well, it tends to make believe that for Lisa Marie entire life she was threaten. I read some where that Elvis would get a lot of death threat regarding Lisa. Now I am wondering whether or not Elvis asked Michael to look out for Lisa. It was stated that Elvis never did like Scientiology and what a concidence neither did Michael. And since Elvis died Lisa Marie was to inherited millions and millions of dollars. Which should will not inherited until she was 30. Now this is what I am thinking, Priscilla does not like Michael why maybe because he did not want to be apart of The Church of Scientology. Going on Oprah and trashing Michael like that. I think that Michael was able to provide to Lisa a safe haven when they were together, but someone was not going to allow that to happened. I think that a little research should be done on the FBI files for Mr. Elvis Presley. Regarding death threat and so forth.

Sometimes I think LMP is not as driven to sing like Elvis was. I feel she's a beautiful woman, but I really don't feel she has it in her blood to continue. She's very sparactic when she wants to sing, she's not consistent on keeping her voice & life in tune with the music business. This isn't nothing against her because of it, I just don't feel the drive is there. I think with her being Elvis's daughter, more often than not, she's given that opportunity more than most artists.
Most artists have a certain "time frame" to stay on top, & when your young, like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, etc... you have to continue at full throttle, because most artists are "for the moment", when your on top, you have to work hard to stay on top.
LMP seems to fade & come back, but I don't see the drive to continue, but because she's Elvis' daughter, she's given more opportunity, & then can fade back normal life, & then once again, want to sing, & makes a cd, then fades back into normal life.
Don't get me wrong, she is beautiful, talented, but has been given many many times of just being able to come back & leave, & come back, & can find someone or has already been working with, to make another cd.
That is not normal in the entertainment industry. I mean, most entertainers, work themselves in death mode, because they know if they don't that opportunity won't come again. But for LMP she's able just come back at anytime & automatically is accepted back into the cd making entertainment business.

I think the song and video "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" is interesting. I like the line "Are you a disruption to my corruption". Also, there's a lot of symbolism in the video. There are the numbers 4, 5, and 7. There's a snake. The lake reminds me of the lake of fire from the bible verses. She's throwing things in the lake. Why a trumpet,teddy bear, toy soldier or something,a picture frame with photo, and a chain ?????? The devil is chained down for 1000 years ??

Yeah, I also noticed those things you mentioned. The clip is bizarre and somber... I still don't know what to make of it, especially because every word, every scene, every frame of that video is charged with so much symbolism. I see it as a deep testimony of what Lisa's been going through! I think the whole album is very personal, like a diary of her thoughts and feelings.

I was listening to this song of MJ's, and wondered if you think he could be singing about Lisa, way back in 90-91, even though they were officially dating in 94. Wow Sim...those are great songs and videos. Lisa said something like this latest album was truly from her soul, her heart, she dug deep down to find these lyrics and it really shows I think. The songs just hit so hard at times....especially when paired with such videos. The one of her and Michael just ripped at my heart.......

yeah, I agree! To be frank, until the hoax started I never really knew Lisa! probably never even tried ! :icon_redface: And probably she was also much more reserved and isolated. I think that everything related to Michael Lockwood is at least bizarre. But he seems to be such a good musician, a professional , a reliable persona that Lisa is comfortable to trust in and I respect that!
