Title: General thread to post forum problems
Post by: ~Souza~ on February 11, 2011, 04:36:42 PM

I noticed some people still have some issues with the forum and the website. The domain has been moved to a new server, which means all your old cookies and cache can cause problems accessing it. Most certainly when you are a regular member. If you can´t access the site or the forum on your laptop-computer, it means you need to delete the cookies and empty your cache. You can also access the site through the IP addres, simply type in 207.58.133.244 in your web browser and you will be directed to the website. It will probably also fix your cookie issues.

The registration function is back up, there was an error in the files which I fixed, so the captcha image shows up again. Unfortunately it also makes it possible for spammers to register again, I already deleted two of them, but there is also an option to let people answer a question to be able to register. Because not everyone on here is a true MJ savvy, I think a question about him could be a problem for some. Suggestions for questions are appreciated, I think that will keep the spammers away. **Edit: this function doesn't work properly, so forget about the questions.**

Some people have a problem with BBcodes and post approvals. People are posting that in different threads, which makes it hard for me to keep up with the problems, so therefore this thread. Every error you get or function you miss, please post them in this thread, so I can see if I can fix it for you.

Again about the passwords, because some people didn´t understand it. Everyone should have been asked by the board to choose a new password. If the board didn´t ask it, ask for a new password yourself, because it is necessary, otherwise you might encounter some forum problems. Your new password MUST contain both upper and lower cases, otherwise you will be told it´s not according requirements. I have set the quantity of maximum log in attempts to endless, so you won´t be kicked out after 3 failed attempts. 30 days after you changed it, you will be asked again to change it. Again you must use both upper and lower cases.

So if you need any help, simply post your problems in here or e-mail me at <!-- e --><a href="mailto:souza@michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com">souza@michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com</a><!-- e --> because I am now answering on Twitter, Facebook, forum threads and e-mail and it's a bit hard to get a good overview that way.

Souza,

I just logged in with my temporary PW that you sent me .
Last night I attempted to change it...wouldn't let me.
Just now I logged in with it and the board did not ask me to change my PW.
SOooOOoo...how do I go about that...when you say ask...does that mean contact you? color me confused.

Thanks

I cant upload an avatar....possible attack vendor etc message, or too big.

I know I can resize my picture, but how do I fix the possible attack vendor message if my picture files are just in JPEG OR PNG ???

Also, does anyone know how to add a GIF signature???

Please please, and thanks in advance.  God Bless xoxoxo
Title: Re: Thread to post forum problems
Post by: RunFaYaLife on February 11, 2011, 11:41:17 PM
Go to the pic you want to upload in your computer...ddl click the name of desired pic...image or whatever.
Then it should be highlighted and you should be able change the name of it.

The PNG thing does not work verra well
I've had a probelm with that one on another board so try Gif i
f you have tried jpeg already.
I can't recall off the top of my head the different names for images ..
just GIF came to mind.

The vector error sounds like a firewall issue....or maybe the AV but I think firewall.

If your posts need approval, go to the user control panel and change your password, that worked for most people. I am not sure where that bug comes from.

As for the avatar issue, if you can't upload your avatar, email me your picture and I will fix the image for you.

Followed the steps nd advice. All ok now.
I noticed just the speed is not the same, it is slower. At times a post won´t go through, but  keep sending untill it catches.

Thanks!

I have been doing some stuff in the admin panel, so that could be why it was slow. If it stays that way, let me know. The website is moved to a fast, dedicated server with plenty of space, so that shouldn't be the problem.

When you log out you see a demo, that's not the MJDHI chat you see.

That's strange. Can you send me an email at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login? I will reset your password and send you a new one. That seemed to have helped with others.

Souza,
I have been trying to reset my password since you did it for me and then told
me I needed to change it again. I'm a member of a few of these phpBB boards
or have been on and off for years.
I have never had a problem  changing my password anytime I wanted to on these type of boards.
Just a thought...I know you are no doubt still recuperating from the board ordeal.
But it makes me think somewhere you missed something that enables the password change option.

The current password you entered is incorrect.
I get this one....no matter what I use or try.
I've thought oh well I messed upI will do it again...
and make sure that I put the same PW in both boxes.
over 6 characters mixed case etc.
Still get this message. ....a real head scratcher...lol
So I decided to leave it alone for a while.

I just tried one so I could show you the message with letters only.
I have tried using numbers and letters since it says "characters"
Are you supposed to use or can you use letters & numbers?

Still get this message. ....a real head scratcher...lol
So I decided to leave it alone for a while.

Your current password is the one I sent you, INCLUDING the CAPS. If you want to change it, you need to type exactly what I sent you and choose a new one, again with at least one upper case letter.

Try again and let me know.

That's probably because you have a virus. There are no virusses on here, so you can't have gotten it here. I advise you to scan your laptop/pc.

Gema...
all I know is I have no problems here...and I'm running a AV and firewall designed for networks it's pretty strong.
I do not know what you are running but AV's can give off false positive's.

Oh and just to put this out there...
to those who may not be aware....on some sites

if you click on to it and a box appears that tells you "you have 125 [pick a number] viruses and should download "this right now" ..usually it will try to instantly start
downloading whether you give permission or not... it you do it will do it anyway.

THAT is a virus and you should cold kill your computer IMMEDIATELY.
Do not try to sign off in the normal manner.
Just hit the kill switch- Cold kill your computer with the OFF button.

That is the only way to have a prayer of stopping it.
What they are trying to DL is a trojan  and it is serious.

Just thought I would pass that along.

I was going to ask a question about a difficulty I'm having to access the forum. I'm a complete pc nerd, I know nothing about it. It started out yesterday and today it is still the same. I can not access the forum everytime I want to. I saw Souza's post yesterday about changing the server and she gave the IP number of the forum and I tried it but it didn't work again. I was wondering if it is only me having problems with it or are there others like me? I can not access to TMZ too when I can't access to this forum. I also would like to add that I'm using a proxy server because we can not get into Youtube as it was restrticted in my country and we need to use proxy to get into youtube. A friend of mine made this proxy thing as I have no clue how it is made or cancelled. I was wondering if the problem can be about my proxy server? Thank you in advance.

I am on a mobile connection that uses proxies too and sometimes I can't access the website either for a few hours. I use www.hidemyass.com (http://www.hidemyass.com) when that happens. I am waiting for the host to contact me about it. It seems that a lot of proxies were banned from the server for security reasons. I will see if it can be fixed and until then, use hidemyass.com. Works fine even though not every link will work as it should.

This isn't a problem, but a question.  At the bottom of the page where is shows who's in the forum, it is showing more guests than members.  Why is there so many guests not registering?
Also, what are "bots"...as in google(bot) ..bing(bot)..msn(bot)...I've wondered this awhile now...

Yes, I have been having problems yesterday and today both. It takes a long time for a page to load or save after commenting. Tonight seems to be better but it took so long earlier today that I gave up. I am not sure if it's the traffic or if there are too many large videos or graphics in a thread. Blessings.

Same here. I wish the server was never changed. After it was changed we started to have many problems on the forum.

Just believe me when I say that it was necessary. The server is a private dedicated server with loads of space and fast as hell, so that is not the problem. We are trying to figure out what the problem is, whether someone is trying to hack again. We have had the same issue last year (see maximum users online). The site is fast now, even on my slow mobile connection.

I think the messages are in outbox until the addressee reads them.

Why do I get the message that my post needs approval? I didn't get that message when I posted the last time (march 15).
EDIT: I got that message a few minutes ago in another thread - when I posted this question here I did not get the message.  :?:

That seems to be only in 'Admin Messages' and not in other threads. I have no idea why some need approval there, but I will try to look into it.

if you mean new post it seems to reset itself after either a certain amt. of time or number of post. always has i think. the most active topics will give you more. or at least that is what it seems like.  :)

@Fordtocarr, for me when I am on my mobile I can't log in so I just look as a guest.

Also Souza, when I try to log in on my mobile it doesn't seem to log in or I have to try to log in several times before it lets me in.

By the way, keep up the good work, your doing a great job keeping this forum together.  :)

What happend with the "active topics, new posts, etc" buttons, if I'm not logged in?

Maybe I'm the only one with this problem but normally the buttons were visible and now the buttons are only visible when I am logged in, something I do not always want when I want a quick read. Can you please but them back?

Indeed makes no sense at all. More logic if it was otherwise. But if it really bothers you, you can always pm a mod. My experience is that they often reply fast.

When you log in, check the box that says Remember Me or Stay Logged In (I forget).

As far as the otherquestion about the side panel when logged out, I have no idea. I always stay logged in so I've never noticed.

When you log in, check the box that says Remember Me or Stay Logged In (I forget)..

Since the Christmas theme is alive, the login is at top right without any login duration checkbox.
I get thrown out after one hour and only in the new popup then there's a checkbox for "login forever".
I can live with that if I don't post and the post doesn't get lost ;)

There's still difficulties with the text styles in posts though that I see others have too.
I don't know why but there is a "loading" bar appearing at top every x seconds.
If I'm faster in writing and hitting the "save" button than that "loading", the text style will remain intact.
If I'm losing the race against the "loading", all formats get lost and / or get modified between draft and post (title, bold, italic, breaks, whatever, artificial ° spaces added) and the posted text looks like a pure alphabet soup LOL. Reworking is often annoying. Started with the smf and I don't have any idea of the source of this issue nor any solution to get this fixed. Maybe its the background HTML editor and a text conversion issue or it's a "temporary save" eliminating the formats.

Maybe it really isn´t an isolated problem. Let´s see what Souza can do for us.

About my signature statement: It´s 1 John 3:18.  It is what I am trying to live and also what I am trying to convey to my son. I have chosen it for my sons Baptism verse.

wow . and 3;16 being so well known. that is the thing about famous quotes we seem to stop short and need to look at what else is said around them, especially in the bible.

Can anyone suggest why suddenly today the pages have become so wide I can't see the whole width at once, even when I scroll to the right? Any ideas on if/how I can adjust this? Thanks.
Title: Re: Thread to post forum problems
Post by: bec on January 06, 2012, 02:12:02 AM
@curls, it's just the back posts. The pic size has been maximized because any smaller (to fit the page) and the posts are too small to read. We decided it was better to scroll on those pages then to have to squint or go blind to be able to read them. It's a challenge with the back post screenshots to make them message board friendly but we think the importance of the archived material outweighs the inconvenient screen size.

Sorry, I know it's awkward.

Oh wait, even IF you scroll you can't view? Weird. Try changing your display back to default from the winter thing. That happened to me right away with the winter theme but going back to default fixes it.

I feel ridiculous!  I am having a problem sending PM's.  No matter if I send from my email, responding to a PM or from a profile I can't seem to send.  After I hit alt s, I just go in spooling mode, get an error and get locked up.  I have had this problem before but managed to get through it. I tried last night for almost two hours to send RK who sent me a wonderful PM, a PM back.  Any sugguestions?  I am not very technical.....can you tell?  Any help will be appreciate.  Rk!  I owe you a PM!  Take care, Love to all!!!!!

@Sandy, I got your PM. Now just click on "my messages" [which will be your messages] at the very top of the screen and that should take you to messages that you recieved...then click on the message to open it to read...from there you can reply back just like when you post in the forum and just click send after your done. It will be sent to my message box and I will get a notification that I have unread mail. I hope I haven't confused you even more.....I am known for being technically challenged you know.  bangbang

Thanks RK, glad you did receive my PM, not sure how that happened but it's a good thing.  I followed your instructions, click on read messages - I just go into spooling and lock up.  I know it's me  bangbang   :'(  I'll keep playing with it and see what happens.  Thanks for the help.

Sandy, if you reply to the email notification of the pm, instead of replying on the forum to the actual person you received it from, you send the reply to MY mailbox. It happens a lot, don't think you're the only one. I never reply to them to say that you sent it to the wrong person, because then I have to open it and read it to see who sent it. I immediately delete them, so that is why you didn't receive an email back from me.

Since the last update I am missing the "posted by" part in the post headline.

For me it looks like this (example):

Posted by: Posted: Today at 11:13:46 PM
Category: Back/Front discussions

Posted by: ?.....the usernames are missing.

I know it´s a minor issue but still unsettling for me.

I think I know what she's referring to. Whenever I post now, it will not return to that same thread or back to 'unread topics', but to an assortment of old topics that haven't been updated in a while (which include the one I just posted in), but are perhaps related in subject. Like this right after I posted just now:

Paula, I had the same problem some minutes ago.
It seems to happen as soon as you try to post a link with the "insert hyperlink" button.
Sim just told me how to solve it though (thanks a lot by the way!).

Leave out the http:// between the brackets.

It worked for me.

Everything is working well for me, but since the look of the forum changed the 'new' logo which shows against new posts is not showing properly for me.

Here is a screen cap with the problem ringed in red.

Not sure if it's a forum problem or just me and my computer, but the past couple of days I'm finding everything very slow, it's taking ages to load pages, post etc.  Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same.

same here

Me too.

Is it kinda like a hiccup?

I'd be typing something and the screen would suddenly freeze. Is that what everyone has?

Or is it just me? :icon_e_confused:

......my tech is old....way old....so it's hard for me to know!  :icon_lol:

Hi Snoopy, No it isn't only you. I have the same Problem and my Internet connection isn't so slow on other Sites and my PC has enough RAM.
Could it have to do with the Fact that we had a lot of guest reading here at the same time? In the Moment there are 162 People reading here.

Hey Guests I would like to know you. Why you don't register?

Much Peace and Love to everyone.

The forum is super fast for me but I always get the hiccup. It's not anyone's system, it's the forum. Last time we talked about it Souza wasn't sure what causes it but it's more or less benign. There's a huge data base here so we consider ourselves lucky that's the only issue the forum has.

When it hiccups you can keep typing, it will print out everything you wrote when the hiccup passes. Annoying when it does it right in the mind of an edit but eh, there's worse things.

Yes, I get the same thing, whatyourheartsays. Seems to happen if I'm typing especially fast!  And it doesn't 'catch up' and fill in the blanks after a few seconds - it totally misses out bits.  Only happens here (and has happened 4 times in this short message!).  I've learned to live with it ... and to re-read all my posts before I click 'post'!

I've been facing this problem for so long now. I asked Souza for help but she said that I was the only one who is having this problem. I have a very slow internet connection and I thought that is the reason why my browser freezes when I visit the forum. But it seems that I'm not the only one who is having this problem!

i'm on firefox. I admit i never tested on other.
when i type a message it's like i'm typing too fast or like i get frozen. I must wait few seconds to be able to type again.

i got used to it but i must say i type "very" fast and sometime i feel "frustrated"  :icon_mrgreen:

Ditto. Have experienced the problem for quite some time as well. Use both Firefox and IE.

Diggy, same happens to me, but I confirm that it is my internet provider which is very slow, and the page freezes.   :Pulling_hair:

I have pasted a link like this from the address bar in YouTube (my browser is googlechrome)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NnVCWC9apA , but when I try to post it using  the Youtube icon as I have usually done, it does not seem to work and it states -

Found the trick: get rid of the s in httpS and make that http://, that will allow you to post it.

Souza, I've emailed you about problems changing my profile. Can you let me know if you haven't received it, please, as I'm not sure if I've used the correct address.

^^^  As Souza appears to be having one of her 'hoax breaks', can any mods help me with this please?  I'm trying to change my email address and it says 'Another user is already registered with that email address'.  Maybe PM me if anyone can help, thanks.

Hoax breaks I wish. As much as I would like one, seems like MJ follows me around wherever I go. There is no peace in this hoax for me. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anyway, what do you want exactly? I did not get your email.

LOL Souza!  So ... I need to change the email address on my account, but when I try to change it, it says there's a problem and that 'Another user is already registered with that email address'. I don't think I've ever used this 'new'/different email address here, and I don't understand how someone else can have the same as me.  Can you help me find a way round this, so my updated info will be accepted?  Thanks.
