Vienna
- The Michael Jackson tribute concert in London that was scheduled for next June has been cancelled, as the show's Austrian organizer announced Friday that is being liquidated.

Promoter Georg Kindel and his now-defunct company World Awards Media and Jackson's brother Jermaine had already disappointed European fans in summer by first announcing a Vienna tribute concert for September and then cancelling it because of a lack of stars and funds.

World Awards Media's majority owner, Vienna-based consumer fund Superfund, issued a press release on behalf of Kindel's company, saying that it would be dissolved.

After the failed Vienna show, Jermaine Jackson said London would be the ideal concert location because that was where Michael Jackson had planned to stage his comeback concerts.

Jackson died from medication overdose in June, shortly before the scheduled London performances.

Interesting how the article states Michael died from a "medication overdose." That's a polite way to put it and nice to see.

London tribute for Jackson cancelled, Austrian organizers say (http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/europe/news/article_1520090.php/London-tribute-for-Jackson-cancelled-Austrian-organizers-say)

The article's source is Deutsche Presse-Agentur, so it looks legit and reliable. The website Monsters and Critics is legit and reliable also, despite the odd name.

I'm not so happy, because I cancelled my trip to the exhibition, just to go to the tribute...
My suspicion grew in the last few weeks, so I should have known better.

I just hope nobody will lose faith!!

But I think it's better for us to just let it surprise us someday.

And another story about this:

JERMAINE JACKSON'S TRIBUTE SHOW FOR MICHAEL IN JEOPARDY
18 December 2009 16:21
A global tribute to MICHAEL JACKSON planned by older brother JERMAINE has been thrown into jeopardy following the liquidation of the Austrian company organising the event.
Jermaine teamed up with promoters at World Awards Media to schedule a star-studded show in Vienna, Austria on 26 September (09) in honour of the late King of Pop, but the event was scrapped amid planning problems and shifted to London for June 2010.
But now the rescheduled show looks to be in trouble - an executive decision to dissolve World Awards Media was made at the end of November (09). A company statement did not provide further details.
Former World Awards Media chief promoter Georg Kindel told the Austria Press Agency he did not know if Jermaine would still be going ahead with the event.
The Thriller hit maker died on 25 June (09), aged 50.

Sorry guys but I have to say-I told you so! On the thread asking who will be going most of you were showing great interest and some were even going from other countries and I said I will not go, not plan to go etc as look what happened to the last one in Vienna. This does not surprise me in the least. If after all these aborted half hearted attempts if he does eventually manage to pull one off there will be no ticket sales and no audience as no-one will have any faith in him. So much for all you who thought it would be Michaels big comeback.
If Michaels "death hoax" was left to the sole responsibility of Jermaine to organise then Michael would now be doing the gruelling 02 concerts and would be in the "land of the living" as Jermaine could not organise a drunken *iss up in a brewery!!

I'm sorry for you, guys, who planned to go there. Although i'd unlikely have the opportunity, it is still very disappointing. Hoax or not, MJ deserves a great tribute and the impotence of people involved in organizing it is just frustrating....

I'd have to laugh though if now AEG will step in... that would be some deja-vu!

I think they kinda canceled it cuz Michael is already back then and then you don't need a tribute ;)
Maybe Michael is trying to figure out, when he could come back. Maybe he wanted to come back in a tribute. Maybe like this year september. Maybe they canceled that cuz it was to early for him. Maybe they canceled 02 2010 cuz It is too early for Michael. (i don't think that ;)) So I think he will come back before June 2010 ;)

I believe that there never was any tribute planned. This was just part of the whole plan to keep people interested, seeking and investigating. I also think that Jermaine may be doing as he has been directed so don't be so harsh with him. He is after all Michael's brother and though they may have had disagreements in the past as all siblings do, I am sure Michael loves him.

I already posted my impressions on this on other forums, since to me this is really weird, to say the least.
I'd like to share with you, also...
Okay, I read the news today on the net, and I started to wonder why... Exactly as I did when Vienna tribute was cancelled.

This is the article I read:

http://www.singersroom.com/news/4954/Mi (http://www.singersroom.com/news/4954/Mi) ... e-Canceled

Quote:

Sources say the event's organizer, World Awards Media GmbH, closed down November 30 and has since been liquidated, making it impossible for original plans described by Jackson's brother, Jermaine, to move forward.

Now my question is: who does this company belong to? Why did it close down?

I googled the company, and the only website I found is this:

http://www.worldawardsmedia.com/ (http://www.worldawardsmedia.com/)

CLOSED!!!

and I also found this:

http://www.dealipedia.com/company_view.php?id=19039 (http://www.dealipedia.com/company_view.php?id=19039)

http://www.dealipedia.com/deal_view_ban (http://www.dealipedia.com/deal_view_ban) ... hp?r=16069

They announced BANKRUPTCY on Dec. 18, 2009.

I think I'm going crazy...

Sometimes I discuss about the facts occurred in the last six months (and soon before June 25th) with a friend of mine who is a diehard fan. Post by: DontBelieveTheHype on December 20, 2009, 03:45:01 AM
Im not sure, I cant imagine they would. But I think it got cancelled for various reasons. One being the celebrities felt like they were being badly treated, hasty planned, not much information, already cancelled once before in Vienna. Maybe they felt like they were being taken advantage of. The way Jermaine scheduled and informed us about the tribute show was very non informative and messy and the pressconference didnt really say much in my opinion.

I also think it got cancelled because of Michael. Like someone else here said, Michael is a perfectionist and maybe he was controlling the show and he decided to put it down because it was tacky or it felt wrong.

What bothers me is that Jermaine was dealing with a company that clearly was in finacial trouble - not exaclty a wise decision! Bankruptcy isn't something that happens over night the world awarda media would've been in finicial trouble for a long time. I wonder if Jermaine was aware of this or, was he just caught in the cross-fire? Two cancelled tributes is a little embarrassing.

its so simple promote a tribute concert as this would keep michael/jacksons in the spotlight just as the news is dieing down annouce a tour/tribute so people start talking again and then he probs chose a company that couldnt pull it off so it didnt have to go ahead its the best excuse for no tribute i dont think a tribute is ever gonna take place its all talk to keep michael in the spotlight until hes ready to return,no one annouces a tribute concert until its all wrapped up and ready to rock, seems things are hotting up for michael again what with move it like michael tv series also theres a michael day on channel five and skyone on monday with all sorts of programmes about him.

Ok I translated the above article:

Michael Jackson Tribute Concert canceled by our editorial staff
AMSTERDAM - The memorial concert for Michael Jackson that his brother Jermaine wanted to organize, is not.

World Media Awards, the organizer of the event, has pulled the plug on the project, reports PerezHilton.com.

Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown and Nathalie Cole would cooperate with the event have been canceled, after the media would be treated as "B-stars'.

The intention was that the winner of the SBS program on Move Like Michael Jackson would perform during the tribute concert, but there will be a different price for the place to come ...

So, several different versions to explain the cancellation...

Again, the article I posted  states different things:

http://www.singersroom.com/news/4954/Mi ... e-Canceled (http://www.singersroom.com/news/4954/Michael-Jackson-Vienna-Postponed-Tribute-Canceled)

Quote
Sources say the event's organizer, World Awards Media GmbH, closed down November 30 and has since been liquidated, making it impossible for original plans described by Jackson's brother, Jermaine, to move forward.

"The company cannot sign any new contracts and will certainly not plan any new events," Martin Schneider, liquidator for the organizers, told Reuters Friday.

Sorry but this is really weird Jermaine has said to a Dutch tv program SBS6 that the Tribute Concert is not canceled and that the participatint members who are participating Move Like Michael Jackson have nothing to worry about

http://www.shownieuws.tv/web/show/id=18 ... tid=126017 (http://www.shownieuws.tv/web/show/id=186479/langid=43/contentid=126017)

Good news for all participants to Move Like Jackson. Jermaine Jackson have let known to SBS that the tribute-concert for Michael Jackson will continue. This weekend did not come alarming rumors to that the commemoration concert in London would not go on coming year by and that therefore the winner of SBS-program Move Like Michael Jackson could act. The brother of Michael, Jermaine, know has let meanwhile that there nothing is correct of these rumors. In a declaration its management to SBS lets know that he looks out to the winner who will act during the event. More details concerning the concert will be made in the new year.

Well, just wait and see...

Something tells me that it is not going to be Christmas Day...but that's just my intuition.
Of course, I would be more than happy about it.
But I think it's better for us to just let it surprise us someday.

Nah... if hes alive then he would want to spend christmas with his kids in peace wouldnt he?? :?

I saw today that the sbs6 and rtl4 programms will be shown, both on a saturday.

Kwalbert's thing is another one, isn't he working on a musical or something: mijn naam is Michael?

I'm über-late with all this... crap...
I paid for the tickets in August if I remember well. prepared to go to Vienna. ok, no Vienna. it would be London. ok.
it said on the order "paid", though they dispatch the tickets approximately 2 weeks before the event. when I only think of the reason why I wanted to go in the first place! *slaps self*. being a cynic by nature I discovered a different side of me, I better not say what I had in mind...
now this is taking me back to my comfy cynical state of mind.
would be nice to get my  1000 euros back, it's how much we paid for two tickets. and now the server of the site http://www.theonlineticketshop.com/ (http://www.theonlineticketshop.com/) CANNOT BE FOUND? buTT of course...
good that my husband talked to the guy on the phone some 3 or 4 times, they seemed to be super professional.
I have all the time in the world to wait and see. or I'll lose my patience and consult my psychic source to find out to which level all this is a bucket of b/s.
even at the cost of getting an answer I do not accept, a priori.

sorry for ranting, but I'm going slightly mad. err... (Freddie Mercury knew stuff)

This whole thing was weird, it made Jermaine look like a fool but maybe it was to allay suspicion that he WASN'T trying to organise a tribute concert, then it conveniently falls through due to financial problems.  Still doesn't sit right with me that the greatest entertainer in the world "dies" and there's no huge tribute concert featuring all the big names past and present including those he directly influenced such as Justin Timberlake, Usher etc.  I'm quite sure they could have found time in their busy schedules to give something back to MJ, the least they could do.  I know the USA largely abandoned MJ after he was cleared in 2005 because of the media twisting everything, but still...  Also wondering still if it wasn't just Michael's finances that led to the hoax decision, after all here in the UK we had a reality show featuring the Jackson family looking for a place to live in Devon, England, and both Jermaine and LaToya taking part in the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother.  I still think the family not trying their hardest to arrange a tribute gig even for MJs birthday this year is strange.
