Is there a spot somewhere where the new posts are?
Like on the old forum where there was the "Latest Topics" thing?

Yep. If you click "Board Index" then look underneath the date and time you'll see
View unanswered posts • View new posts • View active topics

I have this saved as my bookmark for here so I see all the new posts each time I log in.
