Title: The letter to ITV/Kelvin McKenzie & the media
Post by: ~Souza~ on November 10, 2010, 06:12:39 PM

As some of us discussed in this thread viewtopic.php?f=48&t=15577 (http://michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=15577) we want to send a letter out to ITV/Kelvin McKenzie about his slanderous statements he made on the 'This Morning' show that was broadcasted on November 9th on ITV. The idea is we all send out the same e-mail, signed with our name/username and "Michael's Army of L.O.V.E." to ITV, Ofcom and all media outlets possible, hoping one or more will report on it.

The e-mail should be sent on Friday November 12 to:

ITV: Adam.Crozier@itv.com (http://mailto:Adam.Crozier@itv.com)
Director England and Secretary to Ofcom: Damian.Radcliffe@ofcom.org.uk (http://mailto:Damian.Radcliffe@ofcom.org.uk) & breakingnews@tmz123.com (http://mailto:breakingnews@tmz123.com), so make sure that one is in the cc as well. Just in case I think we should also mail it to them using the contact form: http://www.tmz.com/contact/contact-us (http://www.tmz.com/contact/contact-us)

Here is the list of media e-mail addresses (just click the image):

(http://www.binnenmeer-tabijn.nl/cgi-oic/pagedb.exe/..%5C..%5Cdocumenten%5Cvoorpagina%5Cemail.jpg) (http://michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12707#p212099)

And for those on Twitter, here are the Twitter accounts:

(http://images.androidworld.nl/wp-content/uploads/Twitter1.png) (http://michaeljacksonhoaxforum.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12708#p212105)

Here is the letter that TheRunningGirl wrote. You can use this one, but of course you can write one yourself as well.

Quote
Dear Madam or Sir,

I am writing to formally complain about Kevin McKenzie totally unprofessional portrayal of Michael Jackson on ITV during the This morning programme aired on the 9th November 2010 at 10:30.
Kevin McKenzie's comments on Michael Jackson were inaccurate, biased, cruel, and breached numerous sections of the OFCOM Broadcast Code.

Section 2.2 of the code demands that, "Factual programmes or items or portrayals of factual matters must not materially mislead the audience.” MacKenzie's comments were clearly misleading. He ignored the facts and evidence presented at Jackson's trial and dismissed the verdict. He also ignored the children's firsthand accounts of their lives with Jackson in order to portray them instead as having been 'corrupted' and said that they were potential victims of 'abuse'.

Section 2.3 of the code demands that, "Broadcasters must ensure that material which may cause offence is justified by the context." MacKenzie's comments were patently not justified by the context. In a discussion about an interview between Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jackson's children, MacKenzie irrelevantly raised the subject of Jackson's trial and proceeded to dismiss the verdict, insinuating that Jackson was a child molester.

Section 7.1 of the code demands that, "Broadcasters must avoid unjust or unfair treatment of individuals or organisations in programmes." This section of the code is constantly flouted when dealing with Michael Jackson. Does calling somebody a child abuser when they've been acquitted in a court of law constitute treating somebody unjustly or unfairly?

Section 7.9 of the code demands that, "Before broadcasting a factual programme, including programmes examining past events, broadcasters should take reasonable care to satisfy themselves that material facts have not been presented, disregarded or omitted in a way that is unfair to an individual or organisation." Material facts were clearly omitted and disregarded during Kelvin MacKenzie's unprovoked diatribe against Jackson. He ignored the facts, evidence and verdict in Jackson's trial and accused the star of being a child molester. The host did not point out Jackson's acquittal, either. MacKenzie also ignored the children's comments about their upbringing and proceeded to portray Jackson as the exact opposite of what they claimed.

Section 7.11 of the code demands that, "If a programme alleges wrongdoing or incompetence or makes other significant allegations, those concerned should normally be given an appropriate and timely opportunity to respond." Clearly, Jackson could not respond to Kelvin Mackenzie's inaccurate allegations, but no representative of Jackson's family or estate was invited to appear on the show or to offer a rebuttal in the aftermath.

This is totally unacceptable and I am seeking formal actions from ITV and OFCOM on this matter. Propagating lies is not what I understand the media to be about and ITV needs to take some steps in formally apologizing about this totally inaccurate portrayal of Michael Jackson; at least equal airing time should be spent on the apologies as initially given to Kelvin McKenzie to vent his inaccurate allegations.

I would appreciate to be kept informed of the status of this complaint.

Yours Sincerely

xxxxxxxxxxx (Your name & Country)
Michael Jackson Army of L.O.V.E

So whenever you have just a few minutes time, please send the e-mail. It's time we stand up against the media, instead of just complaining about them.

Okay!

I got an email a few minutes ago after sending them - maybe we should send one of the mails on Friday  to Caroline instead of Damian?

I am out of the office and on Annual Leave until Monday 29th November.

If you query is urgent please contact my colleague Caroline Sims (You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login / 0207 981 3561).

Otherwise, I will get back to you on my return.

Many thanks,

Is there a certain time Friday? I ask since I will be enjoying Friday while many of you will still be slugging it out on Thursday.     8-)

The email you sent us all doesn't say Friday in it either, and some of us may not come by this thread so maybe you could edit the subject line...  :!:

I haven't received mine yet but I'd be surprised to hear any more about it from them after this automated reply.  Unless of course there was a huge flurry of complaints and it gets some media attention.  I hope there was a huge amount of complaints, time to get creative dropping hints to The Sun methinks!  They just published yet another apology today to someone they admit they printed false allegations about, quoting comments that he hadn't even made.  Of course it was a tiny paragraph.  They don't check their information most of the time, so I might contact them enquiring if they've heard the rumours from This Morning production staff regarding a flooding of their inbox with complaints about Kelvin Mackenzie.  Not even a fib really and we all know they tell lies for a living, it might get them asking about it anyway. This Morning might try and sweep it under the rug but if they know the newspapers are aware of the e-mails they might not.  Am I being too devious here?!

US Ambassador Lends Support to Kelvin MacKenzie Campaign
Paul W Jones, US Ambassador to Malaysia, has added his voice to the growing chorus of protest over Kelvin MacKenzie's controversial comments about Michael Jackson last week.

MacKenzie provoked a storm in Jackson's fan community this week after saying that he had a 'substantial question as to how and why' Jackson's children had ever been born, that the star's death could have 'saved some children from a lifetime of being mentally corrupted' and that the star's children are better off now their father is dead.

The comments have already attracted the ire of Jackson's nephew Taj, who on Thursday used his twitter account to threaten ITV with legal action unless they issue an on-air apology.

Now US Ambassador Paul Jones, a friend of Jackson's, has fired off a missive to ITV. He has not released his email for publication as he complained in a private, not professional, capacity - but his wife today confirmed that both she and her husband had registered complaints with the broadcaster.

In her email to ITV, Jones' wife Catherine said she was 'disgusted' and 'angry' over MacKenzie's 'sickening' comments and that an on-air apology is 'the very least [ITV] can do'.

It's  good to see that Paul Jones has joined the team!! I just sent another, more "personal", email to ITV and I let them know that we weren't "going away"...EVER!!!    I also said a few more "choice" things to them, being as respectful as I could, under the circumstances. It will be something to see if they finally issue an apology tomorrow...I won't hold my breath waiting though! These "ass wipes," like Kelvin MacKenzie, disgust me to no end...and speaking of "disgusting", who the hell makes these laws, that if someone is "dead", you can slander the hell out of that person, with absolute no consequence! No wonder this world is so "Fucked up!" (sorry guys for the language, but in this case I hope that you will forgive me.)

Lets see what tomorrow brings...I was going to say we should get this "law" changed, but if we can't even get a damn apology from ITV, I guess trying to get someone to change a "law", would be absolutely impossible, right?

Sending you all Love and Light, again, thanks to all those who are not giving up this fight!!
Bless you all for your efforts!

We're trying Michael...we ARE trying! I Love you friend. Hope you are well ...well, as well as can be expected. We love you more!

Sad that more don't feel the need to stand up for such an injustice.

It is sad I fully agree with you.
You will find people only seem to have voices and use them when the end result will benefit them.
Most of his own family don't speak up for him or rally around in a hurry to protect his name and legacy.
Personally I think Paul Jones needs a well written thank you letter for his efforts and for being one of Michael's TRUE  and RELIABLE friends in his times of need.

My reply from This Morning today:

Thank you for your email.

We are very sorry that you were offended by the comments made by Kelvin McKenzie on This Morning on 9 November. We accept that his comments about Michael Jackson caused offence to some viewers, which we regret.

However, when Mr McKenzie gave his opinion on the safety of children formerly in the care of Michael Jackson, and referred to the well known allegations that were made about him, the programme’s presenter Philip Schofield did point out immediately that Michael Jackson was not found guilty in relation to those allegations, and that no-one knows that any children in his care would be at risk.  Following Mr McKenzie’s further comment that Michael Jackson’s children will have a better life without him, Philip challenged him again, and said the children would obviously disagree with Mr McKenzie’s “tough words”.  He also invited viewers to give their views on Mr McKenzie’s comments, making clear that these were not expressed by the programme but by Mr McKenzie in a personal capacity.  Later on in the programme, a comment was read out from a viewer who strongly disagreed with Mr McKenzie’s views.

Although we acknowledge Mr McKenzie’s comments were offensive to some viewers, they were challenged and contextualised immediately by the presenter.  In the context of a spontaneous live discussion about a highly controversial (and deceased) celebrity, arising from a talking point in the news (namely the Jackson children’s recent TV interview with Oprah Winfrey), we consider that the programme overall exhibited balance.  Whilst we appreciate that some viewers, particularly fans of Michael Jackson, would strongly disagree with Mr McKenzie’s personal opinions, we do not agree that the programme was inaccurate as such (as the comments were clearly expressed as opinion) or that it breached generally accepted standards.  Overall the presenters and the other contributor (Lesley Joseph) were supportive of the children’s decision to be interviewed and stated that they were well-adjusted and had expressed their love for their father.

I got the same e-mail from ITV. Here is what I just sent back to her:

Quote
Dear Ms. Stroud-Caules,

First of all I must tell you I am not a fan of Michael Jackson, so please do not assume that I am, just because I complain about these statements made by this mr. McKenzie. That's prejudice and it seems like only fans of Michael Jackson would oppose this matter. That is not the case, I am a fighter for justice and honest journalism.

Your reply is too easy. "We regret it" vs. "We did nothing wrong". Let me tell you what you DID wrong.

As a television programme reaching hundreds of thousands of people, inculding children, you have a huge responsibility. The host on your show needs to be objective, questioning and defending where needed. I am Dutch and that makes us neighbours and as far as I know, we both live in a country where someone is innocent until proven guilty. Michael Jackson has been PROVEN INNOCENT, and if your host would have done his homework properly, he would have known he IS indeed innocent and he would have been able to object to mr. McKenzie's statements. What you showed in your television programme is bad journalism. Mr. Schofield should have told mr. McKenzie his statements where based on an opinion formed by the biased media and that mr. McKenzie did not have the right to make such statements, most definitely since it has been proven in a courtcase that Michael Jackson never did any harm to a child. Below you will find a link that will be educational for Mr. Schofield, since this blog clearly points out the conspiracies against Michael Jackson both in 1993 and in 2003. Why hasn't that ever been pointed out in your show I wonder?

To quote you:

"However, when Mr McKenzie gave his opinion on the safety of children formerly in the care of Michael Jackson, and referred to the well known allegations that were made about him, the programme’s presenter Philip Schofield did point out immediately that Michael Jackson was not found guilty in relation to those allegations, and that no-one knows that any children in his care would be at risk."

And that no-one knows that any children in his care would be at risk? What kind of comment is that? Let's be hypothetical here. What if someone would accuse Prince William for the same horrible things? What if that will go to court and he will be cleared of all charges. What would be discussed in your programme? I can tell you, you would shoot down the accusing party and do anything to find proof of conspiracy and extortion. You would question the allegations, most definitely when they are as ridiculous as the allegations against Michael Jackson. AND YOU SHOULD, because when someone is falsely accused that is in the spotlight like that, the media should report facts on the case, and if someone has been falsely accused, the media should clear his name.

"Following Mr McKenzie’s further comment that Michael Jackson’s children will have a better life without him, Philip challenged him again, and said the children would obviously disagree with Mr McKenzie’s “tough words”." You call that challenging? I cal that journalism without balls. Others would disagree, but I don't dare to speak up, oh no! Come on Edith, that's not challenging, that's called bad journalism. Challenging would have been if the host would have asked the guest if he was aware of the former extortion case of the Arvizo family, of the fact that Janet Arvizo flipped in the courtroom because she couldn't get her story straight, if he knew that Gavin Arvizo and his siblings lied multiple times throughout the trial, if he knew that the Arvizo children would call the DA's Sneddon and Zonen at their first names multiple times. I could go on for hours, but I won't. Just click the link to the blog below and you will understand my intense anger. Your host didn't ask any of these questions, but chose to keep people wondering whether or not Michael Jackson was guilty. THAT in my opinion is wrong and therefore I demand an official apologie from ITV and mr. Schofield. Mr. McKenzie is a lost case, he is on the hate bandwagon and his sole purpose is to damage Michael Jackson's name even more. But you as a broadcasting company should not stand for this and apologize. Believe me when I say that I am very persistant and will do anything in my power to see ITV make that apology. Today a Dutch regular guest in one of our most popular TV shows was dismissed because he accused someone else for sleeping with little boys. He had no right to say that and 1.) he is not welcome in the show anymore, and 2.) the broadcasting company demanded a public apalogy from that particular person, which will be aired as well. That is what ITV should do as well. Not only for the fans and supporters, his children or his family, but for everyone. We need to teach our children that they need to think for themselves, that they should ask questions and not be judgemental. We need them to learn to love one another. The media needs to take their responsibility seriously and report facts and shoot down biased and slanderous statements like McKenzie's. You might not be able to change someone's opinion, but you can at least show that you stand for honesty and justice, This goes not only for Michael Jackson, but ALL cases where people are unfairly treated.

Michael Jackson has been slandered most of his life because he didn't fit the "perfect son-in-law" picture. They have tried to bring him down with that he loves the most: children. Michael was good friends with your (and also all of our) beloved Princess Di. You saw her for who she was, she saw him for what he is, yet you can't seem to stop the hate campaigns against him. People like McKenzie should not even appear in your show anymore.

I want to remind you of who Michael Jackson truly is and what he has done for our world and for the children of the world. And REALLY read it this time, and then ask mr. McKenzie what he has contributed to this world, besides damaging the lives of celebrities half of his life.

Again: I demand a public apology from ITV and mr. Schofield for the errors made in the interviews. I want ITV to make a statement that they oppose the slanderous statements that mr. McKenzie made and that they do not stand for hate campaigns like that. And I am not alone in this, I can tell you that and we will not stop until ITV does what it has to do. A CC of this email will again be sent to OFCOM and this time also to the Jackson family members and PCC.

Awaiting your quick reply,

yours sincerely,

Good for you Souza!! I loved reading every word of that email you sent - it made my eyes tear up too.  Beautifully written and I'm glad you didn't accept her response to be the end of the matter.  It's too easy for them to send off a fake apology, if they bother to respond at all.  I've only received one response and it was automated and said "please don't reply to this email"...  :?  If you don't mind, I would like to use parts of your letter for my use as well.

Once again - awesome job girl!  :D

Exactly, that's why I replied to them.  Hopefully I'll get another response.

This is what I submitted:

Thank you for responding to my issues and concerns. I  appreciate your explanation concerning the infractions imposed on Michael Jackson's character by Mr. MacKenzie during this interview.  I am sure that the fallout from those remarks will continue to be forthcoming as viewers are generally tired of the media asserting personal inuendos into truth reporting.  That being said brings me to the main reason for this reply.

Mr. MacKenzie made very disturbing remarks against Michael Jackson's children.  It is never, in my opinion, correct or responsible to turn an adult discussion into a forum to interject personal abominations towards one's children.  That these remarks were not edited out somehow is incredulous and unethical and demands a public apology to them.

Michael Jackson's children are old enough to have watched this broadcast and to have suffered emotionally as a result of it.  Unfortunately, they are no longer sheltered from the ills of society as they were when their father was present.  Heaven knows that Michael Jackson suffered enough grief at the hands of the uninformed.  However, that does not make it a hereditary condition of which his children must also suffer.  They are innocent children and have committed no offenses against anyone.  They therefore should not be subjected to frivilous attacks of cruelty against them.  In that vein it is imperative that professionals be responsible and use tact and discernment in discussions that could adversely affect them.  I would hope that to be the norm for ANY and ALL children.  To do less would certainly be a disservice to society at large.

I feel strongly that a public apology to Michael Jackson and his children is warranted for the actions of  Mr. MacKenzie as an invited guest on your show.  Though there were other things that were seriously out of order, this infraction really struck an emotional nerve in me.

I don't know how important it is for you to try to make amends to the general public.  But in my eyes, it makes good business sense and it i s the only humane thing to do.  It would certainly make life a little easier for you and for ITV.  Wouldn't you agree?

sincerely,

Same here...

Regards

The fact that they send the same reply to everyone (I even received one after I replied to it), only shows us they are not even reading and taking this seriously. Good thing that we are now documenting that.

Unbelievable!!!!!  After all the complaints we made about Kelvin MacKenzie and nothing was done about it!!  Now they are working themselves into a frenzy over something totally insignificant.  Talk about not getting your priorities right!!  So it's OK for someone to spew out horrible things about Michael Jackson but it's not OK for them to show men having themselves waxed????     Shamone!!
