I am having a tough time sinking my teeth into the 2012 end of the world theory. By all accounts author George Orwell's novel 1984 had us checking out 25 years ago. We're still here. Plus there was international frenzy when we exited 1999 and headed into 2000. We're still  here. Granted, I have not come up with a plausible answer for the 4 years reference. End of the world just seems a bit of a stretch considering the other two examples that proved to be false alarms.

The objective of the Kyoto climate change conference was to establish a legally binding international agreement, whereby all the participating nations commit themselves to tackling the issue of global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. The target agreed upon was an average reduction of 5.2% from 1990 levels by the year 2012. Contrary to popular belief, the Protocol will NOT expire in 2012. In 2012, Annex I countries must have fulfilled their obligations of reduction of greenhouse gases emissions established for the first commitment period (2008-2012)

Perhaps the movie was made in 2005 and Michael is telling the world to correct the atrocities it has displayed on him by 2009?!?!?!?

I find it difficult to know exactly what Michael meant by his statements. After all, did he ever come right out and tell us???? There is no reason to be so cryptic unless there is a need to be mysterious for particular reasons (which feeds the return theory, IMO). I just don't understand the cause or need for such constant confusion. My logical mind is failing me.

IDK, if MJ was including 2009 in his countdown, then you are correct.  However, how many people typically include the current year when they're counting down a number of years in the future, especially when you're in the middle of the current year.  For example, in June I would have said, "we have 3 years until 2012 (2010, 2011, 2012)" because I am not including 2009 in my countdown.

This could mean one of several things:
1. Michael was including 2009 in his countdown to 2012.
2. That particular footage of Michael was filmed in 2008.
3. Michael was not referring to 2012, but to 2013.  What could possibly happen in 2013 that Michael is privvy to and needs our help with?

Four years is such a long way off...I can't wait that long   :(

2012 and the end of the world does not have to be true (as I believe it's NOT) in order for people to believe in it. Many people do believe the world will end in 2012. Perhaps MJ does too. Perhaps he believes that 2012 marks the beginning of the end, and as such, the end of humanity's chance to save it. There's no way to no for sure. But if he believes it's the end, or even the beginning of the end (regardless of whether or not it actually is), then that could be why he was saying we only have 4 years. And besides, "4" years could have been a mistake when he said it. If he was including this year (and many people DO this--and just because most people don't, does not mean that MJ wouldn't--there is no way for us to know for sure), then that would give us 4 years to get it right: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 = 4 years. We don't know the date MJ said that statement, do we? It could have been before June. Do we even know?

not!

21.12.2009 -21.12.2010 1 year
21.12.2010-21.12.2011 1 year
21.12.2011-21.12.2012 1 year

 1 + 1 +1= 3 years ;)

2012 is itself a hoax.  True, time is running short to save the earth, but it's not because 2012 is some kind of magical end of the world year.  I agree, it's BS.  But MJ saying that we have four years to get it right is something I would really like to understand.  I have considered the idea that parts of the movie, for example that part, were filmed earlier than we are led to think.  When do the 4 years begin and end. He is implying that we have 4 years to save the planet...from climate change, environmental disaster, nuclear war, world war, etc.  Four years from, say, May 2009 would be May 2013, which doesn't seem like a significant date to me.  Also, IMO he wasn't referring to 2012 as in the year the world ends. Could he have been talking about O'bama's term?  Elections were held in November 2008.  Four years from then would be election day in November 2012.  (The first thing that did come to my mind when he made that statement was that 4 years is the term of office for the U.S. President.)  If that is the case, which seems logical to me, he would have made the statement sometime between November 08 (election day) and January 09 (inauguration day) in which case that part of the movie was filmed very early this year or late last year.  Just a thought.
