Liza Minnelli blamed M.J. for allowing her to marry an idiot

Liza Minnelli blamed Michael Jackson for allowing her to marry an "idiot".
 
The 'New York, New York' singer - whose fourth wedding, to concert promoter David Gest, took place in 2002, with their pal Michael acting as best man - spoke to the late pop legend after the lavish ceremony and begged him to explain why he had allowed to go through with it.

She said: "I grabbed him when I saw him when I got out of there. And I said, 'Why did you let me marry this idiot?' He said, 'I thought you liked him! You look so happy. Your dress was so beautiful. I don't know. Let me go!' And I said, 'Michael, how could you.' He said, 'It's over, relax.' Then we looked at each other and we started to laugh, we really started to laugh."

Liza - who divorced David just 16 months later - refuses to refer to her former spouse by his name and only recently discovered he hadn't paid a penny towards the star-studded nuptials.

She explained in an interview on 'The Joy Behar Show': "You know something terrible? I only found out I paid for that wedding about five months ago. I said to somebody, 'Well - I'll never mention his name again - but at least it was pretty. It should be it cost however much money it cost.' And they said, 'Yeah, well you paid for it.' Did I think he had paid for it? Oh sure, I didn't know."

Although the 64-year-old star - who has also been married to Peter Allen, Jack Haley Jr. and Mark Gero - regrets her most recent marriage, she finds many aspects of the relationship amusing.

She added: "Some of the things make me laugh so hard when I look back. It was funny though, it was really funny."

Interesting how this should come out NOW when David Gest is about to release his documentary about Michael.  Liza is branding him an idiot!

If this report is true and Liza made such statements this is what I have to say about it:
I am disgusted and personally think it is despicable for Liza to blame anyone other than herself for marrying David. After all, she has a brain, can think for herself, and should be accountable for her own actions-misguided or not!!!! And, if David was so terribly bad why did it take her 16 months to divorce him? This really makes me angry....how dare her! One would think she would have learned a thing or two about herself by marriage number 4!  Again, I rephrase, "Who is the idiot here?" Perhaps she should look in the mirror and make a change!  Has anyone heard the saying, "Fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me!!!!" This should also apply to the third time, the fourth time etc.

Seems to me that this article has taken what Liza said out of it's intended meaning. Looks  like harmless banter between friends when you read the whole article but the headline sreams accusation and blame. Another example of how media create drama just to get you in.

You're absolutely right, I too, believe she was just joking about what she said to Michael. Michael was good friends with Liza for quite a few years. Anyone of his other friends could come on T.V. and say something about what they went through with Michael and have the media take it out of context as well. Sometimes, it's best just to leave things alone. Liza never should have made the comment even though it was harmless. She has been in the spotlight long enough to know better. Keep the Faith!

it has been many moons since i have looked at a tabloid . but from what i remember the actual piece rarely had anything to do with the headline.

if i may get a little off topic here. some of the things i can see that people who want to call micheal weird want to harp on are his relationships with older persons(mainly women) and younger persons. i have done a little research, for personal reasons on giftedness. these are very typical behaviors for gifted people. even the humanitarianism(sp) and non conforming behaviors.

Have you ever heard someone blaming themselves for their mistakes? NO  Blaming others is more efficient. By blaming others it makes one self  feel better for their stupid actions . She is accountable of her own mistakes. Someone with the goodness of their heart makes  you meet a man, but you as a knowledgeable  woman be the judge to see if this person is the right one. That's why we date a person before marrying. I find these actors or singers they launch themselves into marriages without thinking, and then she has the audacity of blaming a wonderful human being, MJ LIZA YOU ARE ITALIAN LIKE I AM BUT YOU MAKE ME ASHAME OF BEING ITALIAN. I'm sure Liza was serious, but I think you're taking her comment to Michael to seriously.  That's the way she talks.  I can see it.  Not only that, that's the way good friends would talk to one another.

That's right....I didn't read this until my previous comment.  That's Liza and that's how friends talk and that's how she talks.  I can picture the whole scene between her and Michael.  She is funny and charming.

I like Liza Minnelli.  I think her comment was funny and cute.  She was just joking around when she said that.  I think Liza and MJ were real close.  I could just picture her saying that to him and them having a good laugh about it.  She's not really putting the blame on MJ she just saying that because MJ is also friends with David Geist her ex husband which apparently she can't stand.  However, I don't think that marriage affected her relationship with Michael.  I wouldn't mind meeting Liza and Liz Taylor.  They just seem like some cool old ladies that just happen to be rich and famous.  I can see why MJ liked them so much.  They are very charismatic.  They both have a good sense of humor.
