I've been asking myself what burning that jacket represents also?   I agree with RK,  I believe it to be the end of his "musical career".  Remember how he said "and let it burn" with such emphasis?

Could possibly mean the end of an era, the old MJ?
I have posted this before:
-What stood out for me was after MJ's jacket was supposed to be burning in Beat It, it ended with MJ saying "Let it burn", also the words "Fade Out" were said while he was walking off into the darkness. Then Kenny O said,"We'll break for 10 minutes".
The first thing I thought was 10 months.
10 months from June would bring us up to April.
Isn't this the month people are talking about and hoping for?
The thing about this, that after the "burning" (standing for the "end of something"), they say 10 minute break while we are seeing MJ going off into the darkness....you usually "come back" after a break.-

This clearly represents all the "hits" Michael took from the media and people that kept knocking him down!! He'd get back up and try again only to be "hit" yet another time. Then he finally had enough, took the coat off and became stronger than before. it was his turn.

To me the burning of the coat reminded of Jimmy Hendrix lighting the guitar on fire and burning it. Maybe Michael was trying to tell us something about Jimmy Hendrix.

Em, I hadn't ever thought of 10 minutes indicating 10 months; interesting.
Take a break meant he took a break. I think the public (advocates of his innocence) need pick up where he left off in gratitude for all he's given.
He really went to hell & back over this.
And he did all he could do to get through it, along with his kids to carry on.
So, then what did Michael do...he left for The Middle East. Now I think that there is more than one reason why he left, but there is no doubt in my mind that it had much to do with how his own country treated him. Seems he was done fighting at that time & just wanted to get on with his life & live it best he could.

A cpl of ppl mention end of an era here. Yes, this is certainly a life transition for Michael from "King of Pop".
But to burn something is to damn it, like burning a flag. Michael wouldn't damn that aspect of his life. He's always expressed such gratitude for opportunity; to travel, perform, express his creativeness, his fans and his being successful enabled him to help others.

Honestly, we  can only imagine the pain he endured, yet there's no doubt that period had a lasting effect.
Here, we speak of a man who gave & gave & gave...to be treated like that ?
Everywhere he went, he stopped in a hospitals, orphanages, US military base...gave an estimated 300 million $ to charities he oversaw himself. Let alone always gave us his all in perfomances; his heart & soul.

And Marlon may have put on a few tears at the end of the memorial yet he certainly wasn't kidding when he said noone will ever know what Michael went through.

Sorry Marlon, you got the maybe part right...the media didn't stop from day one by mentioning allegations in reports of Michael's death.

This is not part of his legacy.
It's the lies of greed.

The fire will diminish to hot coals, then embers to ash.
