Well.. it seems they have recovered the music that LaToyah supposedly swiped.. remember the hard drive with 100 songs that went missing?

I am mixed emotions about this.  Of course i want to hear the new material..  but when i do my heart will break all over again if MJ isnt here also.

I had completely forgotten that music was among the things taken from the house. The new record deal makes a person think about who she was trying to keep from getting their clutches on the songs.  :lol:

OMG!  Why Sony? I mean Michael hated Sony for what they are doing and we know what Sony is up to. But why sign a deal with them again? :roll:

If Michael Jackson really is alive would he agree to such a deal with Sony or or was the falling out all fake?

I have mixed feelings about hearing this deal but from what I've seen in the news it seems like most of it will be back catalogue stuff - including the This Is It soundtrack - and one album of unreleased stuff.

OK, thought about it some more. The deal is not for games, merchandise etc. and one article states:

In striking the deal, Sony is betting that the appetite for Mr. Jackson's music will prove more than just a spike generated by his unexpected death and the ensuing round-the-clock coverage. A record contract struck in the early 1980s gave Mr. Jackson ownership of his recordings. Sony had the right to distribute those recordings through 2015. The new deal extends that right until 2017, and adds the rights to material recorded since then.

So if I am correct, Sony pays 250 million bucks for songs they already could release the upcoming 5 years.... Meaning they will pay 250 million to have those rights for only 2 more years?

So they will pay 125 million for 2016 and 125 million for 2017. And they think they will make profit on that by then? I don't think so and I also don't think Sony is that stupid.

Something is off. This sounds like a bogus deal to me, if it is really just for the music.

No..the 250 million is only about the new unreleased material, the 7 year/10 projects contract. They had the right to distribute the already released material untill 2015.
So they have 2 new deals:
1. extension of right to distribute old songs from 2015 untill 2017
2. right to release new material for 10 projects during 7 years

UN-BE-LIE-VA-BLE. I can't believe this, Michael HATED Sony. He was so glad to have left them. Now he is "dead" and they get this multimillion dollar deal...could this have been the reason for a possible murderplot?

Or he was forced to do the hoax because of the debts....Or it's hes greedy family ( not the kids ) cause he really IS dead, and now they can make more money than ever....or it's all planned by Michael, so he can come back, and never has to deal with making new records, he can sort of retire.

Why are people surprised when musicians prove to be worth more dead than alive?

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal by Ethan Smith, “Months after his death, Michael Jackson set a music-industry record, thanks to a deal between his estate and Sony Corp. valued at as much as $250 million, according to people familiar with the terms.”

The pact, which involves the release of 10 albums over seven years, guarantees the estate at least $200 million. Those releases will feature a mix of previously unreleased songs and new packages of familiar tracks.

Also last week, a new Broadway show was announced titled “Unchain My Heart: The Ray Charles Musical,” that will be a showcase for the music of Charles, and last month the late Johnny Cash released another in his series of albums for American Recordings.

Kurt Cobain appears in the video game “Guitar Hero 5,” and all four of the Beatles appear in “Beatles: Rock Band” although two of them are dead.

Not just that, but the artist isn't even involved with the release of the material. How can they release unfinished material that he may not have agreed with, being the perfectionist that he is? How can you release the artwork of an artist that was not even completed by the artist himself?
