An Oscar question
March 08, 2010, 07:54:07 PM
Why during the John Hughes tribute did they refer to him as peter pan?  Does anyone know of a connection of him with peter pan? It just seemed so strange cause everyone knows who is always referred to as peter pan and especially with Maculay Culkin standing there...just strange?  :?

When I heard that my  ears perked up too.  I thought it was strange.

Re: An Oscar question

Many of Hughes'  films were about teenagers and "coming of age".  He is known for being able to capture and portray adolescence "spot on" in his films. He had a reputation of documenting this time of life, and was able to capture the teenage years so well, partially due to him being able to remain connected and in touch with his own youth and experience.  I have always adored Hughes and his work.

At the Oscars, actor Judd Nelson attributed John Hughes' uncanny ability to capture the truth of adolescent and teenage experience his movies were so well known for because he "treated children as developing adults."

Here is a nice article written by actress Molly Ringwald, where she writes about Hughes and the Peter Pan analogy.
