No it was always the 11th. Someone pointed out that the 10th is actually 777 day inclusive; I joked that the 11th included one day of simmering. Front more or less concurred in not so many words.

The 11th is the day of simmering since it will actually be 778 days inclusive since 6/25/09. Today is 777 day inclusive, tomorrow is one day of simmering.

So it's all ok Anna.

Seen in this specific context the lyrics may refer to someone who was fed up with living a lie. There was a battle between the Inner self and the Outer
self, a battle that had been going on for a very long time. The Outer self was illusory, built on a foundation of lies ( "plastic"). The fake outside was also corrupting the inner man- but there was a tiny authentic part of him still alive inside.
 
So in order to survive The Inner self had to come forth and in doing so put an end to The Outer self. Exit King of Pop- Enter The man you never knew.

Yes, exclusive counting... as opposed to inclusive. Inclusive is 8/10, exclusive is 8/11. Look, Anna, calm down, there's clearly a "+" sign after the 10th "--->" the 11th.

I just don't understand, because the calculation shows clearily that August 10 is day 777 inclusive (when you write the dates, check the box where it says "Include end date in calculation")

Since the funeral on 9-3-09 I've thought the KoP had to die so the man could live. That's why the kids placed a crown on the coffin – he wasn't “the King” to them, he was (is) Daddy. The endless law suits, slander and libel combined with a public persona that had become stifling and fans who'd never let him retire left him no other choice, really.

 
Combine the lyrics with the name of the NIN album and it's a potent message.

 There were lots of indications that the shell was being buried e g the dummy in the ambulance photo, his dad saying that he mourned the death of the artist, the rumour that he would be buired without his brain. And as you pointed out about the children putting the crown on top of the casket.
Highly symbolic. And then the celebration with the sticky buns after the funeral...
 
Yes, Duckie, in many ways it is a shame because MJ felt at home on stage and loved performing and entertaining. But it was the other celebrity garbage that came with the territory which you so rightly pointed out. A life with an endless trail of users and besotted fans and money crazed paps wanting a little bit more. And then a little bit more.

I also love the haunting piano!  I'm thinking MJ's "death" caused the world to stop breathing for a bit in shock, stopped their usual routine. And it will do so once again before MJ is finished. The "lights out" will become again "lights on" Michael Jackson with all the world in awe and watching.
