January 18th, 2 hour special: Star surprise
January 18, 2010, 11:21:11 AM
It was announced that Larry King will have a 2 hour special tonight on the Haiti situation and will have a star surprise.
Since it is the 18th and we're supposed to watch this date I wonder, or should I say I hope.
What star has not yet come out and announced some charitable thing going on with Haiti?  Is it just me, or are there more celebrities than ever jumping on the philanthropic bandwagon?

George Clooney is spear-heading this.  He usually is a strong supporter of philanthropic needs.
This special also includes:
Mick Jagger, Ben Stiller, Ringo Starr, Colin Powell, John Mayer, Seal, Ryan Seacrest, Benicio Del Toro, Tea Leoni, Scarlett Johansson, Christian Slater, Ashley Judd, Sarah Ferguson, Russell Simmons, Sean Combs, Alyssa Milano, Kobe Bryant, Danny Glover, David Spade, Susan Sarandon, Nicole Richie and more!

George Clooney says the "Hope for Haiti" benefit for victims of the earthquake in Haiti will include performances from Bono, Sting, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys.

Speaking to The Associated Press at the Golden Globes ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Clooney said that more than 40 celebrities are expected to attend the Jan. 22 event. The actor said the aim of the benefit is "to show the people of Haiti that the whole world is paying attention."

The benefit, which Clooney and Haitian-born singer Wyclef Jean will host, will be broadcast on more than a dozen broadcast and cable networks. It will be held in New York, with CNN's Anderson Cooper chiming in from Haiti.

The show will benefit the Red Cross, UNICEF, Oxfam America, Partners in Health and Jean's Yele Haiti Foundation.

Clooney said that songs from participating artists will also be available on iTunes, with proceeds going to the relief effort.

I'd like to trade in all of those stars for one Michael Jackson. I applaud their effort but it's not too much of a draw for me. I already gave because of Michael and because it was the right thing to do. Not because of these celebrities. Sorry - don't mean to be unkind.

Lots of celebs spearhead charity events. It is politically correct in a sense...there are some that I believe truly mean it in their hearts.I think as far as Haiti is concerned everyone means it right now. I think Michael meant his philanthropic deeds,of course that is why he started his own charity.
