The Power of Performances to shape public opinion

One thing that I have thought about in examining MJ is the power of performance to shape public opinions and ideas.  As a performer, MJ had an amazing opportunity to get his ideas across to the public.  Like "Go make the world a safer place for our children" and "War is not the answer".  During his "Earth Song" performance in Germany in 1997 the audience was crying.
