As you all know, this forum has been beaten a lot: converted first, then hacked twice and even though I have managed to fix it more then once, it's possible that one day I will not be. The problem is that there are a lot of errors in the database and in the coding of the forum. You don't always notice that, but I do. As I am not a web specialist at all and only learned how to make and install them about 2 years ago, I can't guarantee the safety of the database anymore. I make double backups daily just in case, but if I have to use the backup now after a crash, I will at least have 3 days work to get it up again, if not longer, IF I can get it up again. So what I am testing now (and a few of the mods have tested it too) is a new platform for this website. I will set this one as an archive, make a last backup and store it at a safe place in case anything happens, so that I always have at least that, and we build the community on the new platform.
There are of course pros and cons, like always. But I think the pros are outweighing the cons at this moment. It will be completely fresh, no old bugs and no more quote problems or whatever problems members encounter now. The software I am testing now is a community platform that looks a lot like facebook. Advanced profiles, video sharing, photo albums etc. The forum is quite simple, but that is not really an issue since many things will transfer to the community features and not the forum anymore. The forum will be for hoax investigation ONLY. Other stuff can be discussed in groups, on profiles, in blogs etc. Might seem like abacadabra now, but I will link you to a test of this once I have set it up, so you can all get used to it before I will even start changing this forum to an archive. I also want to see if the software stays fast with many users online. If this will work, things will change regarding posting where/what but I will explain then how we will use the new website.
Anyway, I already wanted to 'warn' you since I know many freak out when they hear the words "forum" and "change" in the same sentence. For now let's just see if it works well and if we all (me included) can do with it what's needed. I'll let you know as soon as possible what the link to the test site is.
