Quote from: "puremind"A documentary is based on reality.
1. Consisting of, concerning, or based on documents.
2. Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.
Ehhh... that may be someone's official definition but it's certainly open to interpretation as to what sorts of projects would fit into that category.
Food Inc., Supersize Me, Fahrenheit 911, Sicko, all examples of facts presently with an editorial lean in a film categorized as a documentary.
Remember, to think outside the box isn't just a cliche play on words. You guys seem so determined NOT to believe. Why do you place such rigid boundaries on things? This hoax breaks boundaries. Dare to think differently! Dare to do what no one else has ever done before. It's an innovative, novel creation, MJs Vision, if you will. The current entertainment industry lacks a category for MJs masterpiece, that's unfortunate, but if it helps you to give it a name, "documentary" is what it most resembles, but really, it doesn't fit there either because it doesn't come pre-packaged on a disk in a box like a documentary would.
So really it's a unique creation akin to Performance Art of sorts. But it's not all fake. Some of it is real. Even when the audience (us) knows that it is fake they have a hard time determining the line between illusion and reality. Like a magic trick.
I'm sorry you don't believe yet. Keep digging, it's great fun when you learn your own truth :D
