Joe Jackson -- I Didn't Beat MJ, I Used a Strap
10 minutes ago by TMZ Staff

It may be splitting hairs (unless you're on the receiving end) but Joe Jackson maintains he didn't beat Michael Jackson as a kid ... he used a strap ... and he'd do it all over again.

Watch Oprah call out Joe on her show today.

You know... I think it's very hard to judge here. I am not so sure Joe's beatings/strappings or whatever he wants to call them, were the worst Mike suffered. In that time it was common to punish your children (I even got some spanking when I was little) and they didn't have an easy life. Joe was working 24/7 to get food on the table. I could be all wrong, and I am definitely not saying I approve it. Far from that and I would never raise my children like that, but there might be more than meets the eye here. I do think he loves his children in his own wicked way, I just think his greed took over one day. I don't like Joe, let me be clear about that and as long as I keep hearing him defending his actions, it will stay that way.

This is exactly what Joe is about. He could not do better, but he made men and women out of his children, with no criminal record.

Many kids being raised in a poor city with no prosperous future, he used the "whipp" them out of trouble.
Katherine says "we have to admit it his is the way black people raise their children".

Times have change fortunatelly and other "educational" methods are used. I see this as an educational call for a better change.

Michael pls come back

"It may be splitting hairs"...the first line of the article is very interesting.  Joe is claiming something different by using different words.  Maybe like TMZ saying "Michael Jackson dies" they didn't mean it like "Michael Jackson is dead".

It is really hard for me to be sympathetic towards joe. I'm sure his justification of what he did makes sense to him, but my father was abusive when I was younger too and it's very hard to forgive. I understand that was the kind of "discipline" commonly used, but that doesn't make it okay. The fact that he says he'd do it again breaks my heart. Sometimes there are lessons people never learn, and for that they will pay the consequences.

Really Joe?
There is never any excuse to hit your child with your hand, fist, belt or anything else.Nothing but a bully and a coward.

As for TMZ I am calling it JMZ from here on.

Joe is 80 . He is not going to change now, plus, now a days with the social and economical position that the Jacksons have, he wont feel the need to use the strap to keep anyone out of trouble.

I don´t support any form of violence, however we need to see Joes actions with the 1950´s eyes, the social and economical position he had and the education and discipline tools used then within his community.

Lobotomy was a common practice in USA to "control" rebels, imagine the level!

He is proud to say that he would come back to the strap because, imo, for a poor man with so many kids as he had, the strap use worked.

His children are millonaires, well educated and in the case of Michael, a sample to follow regarding human values for some of us  :)

However, whatever you want to say about the beatings/whippings (which, the way MJ describes them on the Rabbi Boteach tapes- if those are even true or whatever- sound nothing like your average spanking and he sounds as if he were very frightened of them) that's still a very different matter from all of the verbal abuse MJ claims he took from this man.. that was Living With with all the doubles or whatever, but I think he talked about that somewhere else, too. That sure sounds like it destroyed his self-confidence and really hurt him, and Joe has no excuse whatsoever for that..

No sympathy for Joe watsoever. I heard he broke Michael's ribs before. that's more than using any strap.
