TO MARK the first anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death last month, Tom Cappola will perform a special tribute concert in Berwick.

Cappola, 19, rose to fame last year when he won a television contest to find Australia’s best Michael Jackson impersonator.

His prize was a free trip to the US, where he visited Neverland Ranch in California and Jackson’s original home in Gary, Indiana.

While he was devastated by his pop idol’s death, Cappola said he returned from the trip more committed than ever to keeping Jackson’s legacy alive.

The performer promised audiences his tribute show, at Castello’s Berwick Springs Hotel following the anniversary of Jackson’s death on June 25, would be a “memorable event”.

“I really want people to experience and celebrate Michael Jackson’s music and how he changed the entertainment industry and took live concerts to the next level,” Cappola said.

There will be a few surprises in this show and it will be a memory of what Jackson brought to the stage not just a list of songs.”

The self-trained artist said that since Jackson’s death he had been busier than ever turning his hobby into a full-time career.

It has taken Cappola six months to prepare for his tribute show, which has two 50-minute sets, with six back-up dancers and “spectacular” lighting.

At his Bulleen home, the teenager has hundreds of records, dolls, posters and other Jackson memorabilia that he collected while on his trip to the US.

Cappola said he hoped to take his show around the world.

The King of Pop Michael Jackson Tribute Show - Starring TJ is on July 17 at Castello’s Berwick Springs Hotel, corner of Clyde and Greaves Rd, Berwick, at 8.30pm.

May your spirit keep the freedom of a butterfly in spring and your heart be filled always with the joys of simple things. May your essence claim the freshness of the new laid morning dew. All of this...and more...
