Janet Jackson made her first live performance in two years Friday night at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, and by the looks of it, the 44-year-old pop icon worked her butt off.

A glistening Jackson wore a futuristic looking silver number at the event, which she headlined, and was accompanied by a bevy of backup dancers. In concertgoer videos, Jackson's voice sounds strong and the crowd certainly enjoyed the rare performance, her first since her brother Michael's death. It's also the singer's only scheduled concert for 2010, so if you missed it, too bad! Watch Ms. Jackson perform 'Let's Wait Awhile' and check out pics from the event.

(once in this link, you can see 20 pix from the event last night)

Janet performed beautifully! She looked great and her voice was just as strong as ever. One thing I will say about her is that she isn't frivilous with her talent. She appreciates her gift of song/acting and takes care of the gifts God has bestowed upon her. I imagine this was just a preview of things to come. I recall when she and Tyler was on Oprah and she said she might perform again and go on a short tour. She said it would all depend on how she was received by the public after all of these years. From the video they looked pretty receptive. Thankfully she didn't get booed like they did Whitney Houston. Keep the Faith!

Some men see things as they are and say: WHY?
I dream things that never were and say: WHY NOT?

I'm glad that Janet is moving on with her life.  Nice performance.  I'll admit I have never been a big fan, though I think she is very talented.

Sure! I believe she would have done a show inspite of MJ being in exile. If you will recall unlike MJ, Janet was an actress. She dedicated most of her years to acting rather than performing. I believe MJ encouraged her to go back out and perform what she loved so much. Now that MJ is out of the limelight she will no longer be compared to her big brother. The critics will have to measure her on her talent alone. I am sure MJ was very proud wherever he maybe nowadays. She's trying to make her mark in the Entertainment Industry. I thought it was nice of her to post some pics of her in different venues. While I do think 500 pics was alot it wasn't surprising. I am sure she learned and continues to learn from MJ to go above and beyond the norm. MJ has such a big heart! Keep the Faith!
