LOS ANGELES (AP) — The executors of Michael Jackson's estate said Tuesday they were concerned about the welfare of the singer's mother and his three children amid a nasty family feud over money that has prompted three law enforcement investigations.

Executors John Branca and John McClain wrote in a letter posted online to fans of the pop superstar that they were doing everything they can to protect his children.

"We are concerned that we do what we can to protect them from undue influences, bullying, greed, and other unfortunate circumstances," states the letter posted just hours after deputies responded for a family disturbance at the hilltop home where Katherine Jackson and her three grandchildren live.

No arrests were made, but officials say there is an active battery investigation.

Jackson died in June 2009 at age 50 and left his estate to care for his mother and three children. He left nothing to his father or siblings, who have repeatedly tried to intervene in the estate. Several have expressed doubts about the validity of his will.

Sandra Ribera, an attorney for Katherine Jackson, said authorities were called after the singer's children were accosted by relatives who followed them into their gated community in Calabasas.

"After exiting their vehicles, Jackson family members ran up to Michael's children as they yelled and began to aggressively grab at the cellphones in their hands," Ribera wrote in a statement.

She and sheriff's officials have not identified who was involved in the incident, but video footage appears to show Michael Jackson's siblings Janet, Randy and Jermaine in the driveway of the home.

The video was obtained by "Good Morning America" and celebrity website TMZ.

Ribera claims "a plan has been in place for the last three years to remove Katherine Jackson from her home and her beloved grandchildren."

Katherine Jackson was reported missing over the weekend but later found to be with her daughter Rebbie and other relatives in Arizona. She has not spoken to her grandchildren — Prince, Paris and Blanket — since leaving the Los Angeles area on July 15.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said the missing person's investigation into her whereabouts has been closed, as was an inquiry about possible elder abuse of the 82-year-old Jackson family matriarch.

He said deputies interviewed Katherine Jackson after a family business associate warned authorities that she was possibly being emotionally abused by a family member. Whitmore said the elder Jackson emphatically denied the accusations.

He said an abundance of caution has investigators still looking into claims that Katherine Jackson is the subject of financial abuse.

The estate and Katherine Jackson's guardianship of the children are supervised by a probate judge. The judge recently received a financial summary showing that Michael Jackson's estate has earned $475 million in gross profits since his death, and many of his major debts have either been resolved or are no longer delinquent.

The singer died with more than $500 million in debts.

Janet, Jermaine and Randy Jackson were joined by siblings Tito and Rebbie in a letter leaked last week calling on Branca and McClain to resign and accusing them of manipulating their mother. The letter also claims Jackson's will was

The estate has denied the accusations and no challenge to the executors has been filed in court.

The estate said it plans to closely monitor the well-being of Katherine Jackson and her grandchildren.

"While we do not have standing to directly intervene, we have monitored the situation and will continue to do so," wrote Branca, a lawyer, and McClain, a music executive. "We believe measures are being put in place that will help protect them from what they are having to deal with."

FILM FOCUSES ON THE KING OF POP'S GROUND-BREAKING BAD ALBUM, TOUR AND VIDEOS TO CELEBRATE THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ALBUM'S RELEASE

New York, NY – It was announced today that Academy Award nominated filmmaker Spike Lee, inconjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music, is in the final stages of post production of a Michael Jackson documentary focusing on Michael's landmark BAD album and worldwide tour. The project marks the first ever in-depth, behind the scenes film project to chronicle a Michael Jackson album, and is being filmed amid the 25th anniversary celebration of the iconic album, record-breaking world tour andgroundbreaking short films that changed music history. The documentary features over 40 interviews conducted personally by Spike Lee with Michael's confidants, choreographers, musicians and other collaborators who collectively unveil the real story of this "coming of age" project through their vivid recollections of what it was like to work day in and day out and live this project with Michael. BAD's lasting influence is captured through interviews with some of today's top artists, including Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Cee Lo Green and Sheryl Crow, who was a back-up singer on the BAD tour.

The Michael Jackson BAD documentary joins an incredible body of Spike Lee documentaries including the Peabody and Emmy Award winning, When The Levees Broke: A Requiem In Four Acts and its follow up, If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don't Rise, Kobe Doin' Work, and the Oscar Nominated, 4 Little Girls.  Lee directed both short films for Michael Jackson's "They Don't Care About Us" in 1996.

Spike Lee comments, "I'm more than just a huge fan of Michael Jackson, and having the chance to actually know him and work with him, I deeply care about his legacy.  With this BAD project I was able to uncover just what made this such a huge, important coming of age in his career and unearth compelling stories surrounding the making of the album, the long awaited follow-up to Thriller – the best selling album of all time - the short films and the tour that may have never seen the light of day."

Among the interviewees are Oscar-winning film director Martin Scorcese, Joe Pytka andother filmmakers who worked with Michael to bring the stories in his songs to life on the screen through short films that remain today some of the most vivid and creative storytelling by a musical artist as well as one of his Michael's personal engineers, Matt Forger, who worked with Michael at the recording studio at Michael's Hayvenhurst home where the songs first came to life, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes, who worked on the album and then the BAD Tour. Also shedding light on the BAD album, short films and tour are individuals like former CBS Head Walter Yetnikoff, as well as choreographers Jeffrey Daniel and Vincent Paterson.

John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of The Estate of Michael Jackson comment,  "Spike Lee's genius as a storyteller combined with his passion and first-hand appreciation of Michael's artistry makes him the logical filmmaker to tell the story of BAD. We are thrilled to be working with him on this unique project."

The third and final album collaboration for Jackson and Quincy Jones, BAD launched a pivotal coming of age for the King of Pop as a performer, composer and producer. The album was #1 around the world, made history with five consecutive #1 singles on the Billboard chart, produced ten chart-topping singles, nine ground breaking short films and to date, the BAD album has generated over 45 Million units in sales. BAD was nominated for six Grammys and won two; the album earned Michael the first-ever Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMA Awards.  Songs on the original album are:   "Bad," "The Way You Make Me Feel," "Speed Demon," "Liberian Girl," "Just Good Friends" featuring Stevie Wonder, "Another Part of Me,"  "Man in the Mirror," "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," "Dirty Diana," "Smooth Criminal," with "Leave Me Alone" added to the CD version of the album once released.

Spike Lee's film supports the 25th anniversary of BAD, which will also be celebrated with the September 18th release of BAD 25, a must-have deluxe package featuring three CDs, two collectible booklets, and features the first-ever authorized DVD release of a concert from the record breaking BAD tour, the concert at Wembley Stadium on July 16, 1988 attended by Princess Diana, Prince Charles and a sold-out crowd of 72,000 fans. A BAD 25 two CD standard edition featuring the original album plus the CD of demos and new remixes will also be made available as will a stand alone edition of the DVD and a picture disc of the original album.

More details on this and other exciting projects relating to BAD's 25th anniversary will be announced soon.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A group led by Sony Corp. said Friday it has purchased Britain's EMI Music Publishing for $2.2 billion from Citigroup, creating the world's largest music copyrights company with a catalog that includes hits from Motown, The Beatles, Jay-Z and Norah Jones.

Now all that remains of the storied British label group is its recorded music division, which Vivendi's Universal Music Group has offered to buy for $1.9 billion. That deal is being looked at by European and U.S. regulators. If they approve some time later this year, the world's major music companies will be reduced from four to three.

Recorded music companies have argued that they need to combine resources to survive in an industry crippled by piracy, as the legitimate digital distribution of music is still in its infancy around the globe.

But publishing has remained a steady business over the years, despite the onslaught of the Internet and the ongoing decline of compact disc sales, because of its diverse revenue sources. And by acquiring EMI, Sony/ATV, a 50-50 joint venture between Sony and the Michael Jackson estate, will control just over 2 million copyrighted songs. The new entity is estimated to capture nearly a third of publishing revenue in the world.

Size wouldn't necessarily give the company the ability to use its dominance to boost licensing revenue, Sony/ATV argued, because licensing rates are closely controlled by laws in various countries.

Friday's clearance by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission means that regulators agreed the new entity would not have the market power to raise rates on its own or coordinate such a move with others, which could have affected the price of songs. The FTC's conclusion of its investigation without objections was the final hurdle before the deal's closing was announced later in the day.

"We've gone over the rainbow and hit the pot of gold," said Sony/ATV CEO Marty Bandier, adapting a lyric from "The Wizard of Oz" song "Over the Rainbow," which is part of the EMI catalog. Bandier ran EMI's publishing division for 17 years.

Last year, publishing companies generated about $3.9 billion in revenue, relatively unchanged over the last several years, according to Simon Dyson, editor of Music & Copyright, an industry newsletter.

Publishing's revenues have held up better than the recording side because there are more streams of revenue that aren't tied to declining sales of compact discs. Publishers and songwriters share a cut of about 8 to 9 cents for every 99-cent download purchased from online retailers like Apple Inc.'s iTunes. But they also make money from radio airplay, free online streaming and the placement of songs in movies, TV shows and commercials.

Sony/ATV's 11.7 percent share and EMI's 19.3 percent share means the combined entity will now control about 31 percent of the global market for music copyrights, leapfrogging past the 22.2 percent share of Universal Music Publishing Group, Dyson said. The next largest is Warner Music Group Corp.'s Warner Chappell with 14.1 percent. All independent music publishers combined have a 32.6 percent share.

Dyson said Sony/ATV will have increased leverage in setting licensing rates for new digital music startups if it chooses to bypass royalty collection societies like The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers in the U.S. But he acknowledged that would require a major shift in how most business is conducted.

"If you're a big publisher with a 10 percent lead, you're going to have a big say in what licensing rates are," Dyson said.

Fostering fair competition in the digital landscape was one of the concerns of regulators, according to Sony/ATV's Bandier. The company argued that even if there were still four major music publishers, new digital entrants like streaming music services Spotify or Songza would need to go to all of them to start up any business that has a chance to survive. It would need EMI's songs by Kanye West and Rihanna as much as it would need Sony/ATV's Beatles, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, Bandier said.

"It didn't make a difference if you'd put them together or separate, you'd still have to make a deal if you were a digital service that was just starting," Bandier said in an interview. "We had to convince all of the regulators that that was the case. We're happy we're past that. We never felt it would be an issue."

The transaction was cleared by EU regulators in April. That came after Sony/ATV offered the concession that it would sell the publishing rights to several catalogs as well as the works of 12 artists including Ozzy Osbourne, Robbie Williams, and Ben Harper.

Besides Sony, the buyers of EMI Music Publishing include the Michael Jackson estate and several investment funds including United Arab Emirates government-backed fund Mubadala Development Co.

Citigroup seized EMI from private equity firm Terra Firma in February 2011 after Terra Firma defaulted on $5.5 billion in debt stemming from its 2007 purchase of the music company.

Michael Jackson News / Rabbi Shmuley Boteach - The Revolting Lie

The Revolting Lie That Michael Jackson Was a Nazi Sympathizer

All a man has in this world is his good name. The book of Ecclesiastes says that a good name is better than fine oil. Our reputations determine what others think of our character. We have a right, therefore, to defend our name against scurrilous and slanderous attack. When those we know cannot defend themselves, we must stand up and speak out on their behalf.

I generally try to avoid the gossip that is so often said and writing about Michael Jackson. Libraries of nonsense have been written about him, and now that he is tragically no longer alive, he cannot defend himself. In general I see no point in highlighting slanderous material about him by responding to it.

But several headlines recently caught my attention when I heard that a man who claims to have worked as Michael's bodyguard made the incredulous charge that Michael was a Nazi sympathizer. This kind of viciousness should usually not be responded to because it just gives it more credibility for the retelling. But the slander against Michael's name in this instance is so great that it deserves to be rebutted.

As is well known, I was Michael's Rabbi for two years. During that time, we discussed every subject under the sun. A great deal of it was captured in the conversations we recorded specifically for publication in the books that became The Michael Jackson Tapes and its follow up, Honoring the Child Spirit. In one of those conversations, Michael spoke of Hitler's mesmerizing oratorical skills. He said that oratory is in many ways one of the most effective tools that evil uses to manipulate others and thereby gain power. Michael argued that Hitler used many of the same techniques that showbiz performers use today in order to manipulate audiences and steer them toward evil deed. I was disheartened when the book was first published to see some newspapers highlight these comments of Michael completely out of context and misrepresent him as someone who could have admired Hitler. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Michael Jackson News / Move Over, Tupac—Michael Jackson Hologram

"...And he may be with them afterall. Jackie said a Michael hologram could very well be part of a bigger tour they're planning for next year after they release a new album with their recently reunited record label Motown."

Move Over, Tupac—Michael Jackson Hologram Could "Absolutely" Go On Tour With His Brothers

If the late Tupac Shakur could put on a show, so could Michael Jackson.

Yes, a hologram of the King of Pop may be going on tour…

The late music legend's brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Tito and Marlon just announced that they are joining together for Unity Tour 2012, a 27-city jaunt that kicks off June 18 in Louisville.

It marks the first time they've toured together since the Victory Tour in 1984.

"I just wish Michael was here with us, but I'm sure his spirit will be in the house," Jackie exclusively told me this morning.

And he may be with them afterall. Jackie said a Michael hologram could very well be part of a bigger tour they're planning for next year after they release a new album with their recently reunited record label Motown.

"It could have Michael—absolutely," he said. "Wouldn't that be wonderful? As a matter of fact, we had that idea two years ago for Michael's Cirque du Soleil show."

The brothers are still working on the set list for Unity. "There are so many songs," Jackie said. "That's the hardest part because we want to include all the favorites and not leave anything out. We're going to sing some of Michael's stuff, too. We're going to honor him on the stage. He'd want us to do our thing to the best of our ability."

By: Natalie Zmuda, Published: Mar 30, 2012

Pepsi is paying homage to the King of Pop one more time.

The brand is working with Michael Jackson's estate to create a limited edition package featuring the singer, according to an executive close to the company. The package coincides with the 25th Anniversary of the "Bad" album, which was released on Aug. 31, 1987.

The package will be a 16 oz. can available in convenience stores and grocery stores around Memorial Day, according to Beverage Digest. The can, said to have a blue background with an image of Mr. Jackson dancing, is expected to cost 99 cents. Pepsi declined to comment.
