No, seriously. This is absolutely not Michael. When you listen to Michael's voice, you know it's him. It's BAM! His voice. This is not his voice. Anyway, Jason Malachi also had videos of himself singing on his MySpace profile. I think he's had TV performances. Think that Michael was always backstage, talking, singing, and Jason was lipsyncing every word?

Well the only video I see on there is the radio interview (you don't see him... just voices) which is pretty much useless until the end when he sings briefly.  So the speaking voice is definitely not Michael, and the singing at the end sounds like it's just somebody who has worked really, really hard to fashion his voice, down to the tiniest little nuance, after Jackson's and has done a good job getting the vibrato and falsetto to come out just right.

Now, after listening a few times I'm thinking that this song is not being sung by Jackson. Here are my reasons: Michael's voice is smooth as silk... there are some rough spots in the transitions in this song and this singer tends to slur a bit (not something I've heard from Michael since "The Jacksons", and even then, his slurring was different).  Also, this is a bit nasaly at times (also not something I've heard from Jackson) which is usually the result of trying too hard to sound a certain way.  When he tries to sing in his throat he doesn't have the power that Michael always puts out... it's really kinda weak.  All of this could be the result of a rough recording and we could say that Michael simply didn't put the time and effort into it that he would normally for a finished song (and we all know it's uncharacteristic of him to put out anything that he hasn't perfected) but there is one more thing:  Michael's singing patterns are not evident in this song at all.  There is a certain flow of notes that he's prone to, or certain intervals that naturally come out of him when he's singing (we all do this), and I don't hear any of them in this song.  What I do hear is the same vibrato and the same drawing out and ending of notes... and if somebody had the right tone of voice, they could mimic this with practice.

Sorry if this seems way over-analyzed.  It's just how I work.

BUT I do still find it odd that there are no live videos to be found.

I don't know... he looks like he's got some color to me in Captain EO... and beyond.  But I agree, it would be nice to see someone portray him well for once.

For me Jason Malachi is just a cover for MJ.. As sometimes ago I was in touch with Mr Malachi.. and whenever I would ask when and where his live concerts would take place .. his answers were like:

Jamestown.. in New York.. or Orlando.. so when I was pestering him to give me an exact place and time he was going again same as above.... And then he just stopped replying as I kept asking him same question at which he obviously didn't want to give me an answer.....

Also he had some concerts scheduled and posted online....  so I made a few phone calls to check those places for the tickets availability for Jason Malachi concerts... and I was told that they never heard about him and no such person has any concerts scheduled at their Theatre bla bla bla...

It must be Michael Jackson who leaked those songs and Jason Malachi is only an alias to hide himself. Even if Malachi exist he is not the one who sings. PERIOD!

That's interesting. And that was my big question while I was checking this guy out (has anyone ever seen him live?) and I saw a comment someone left on his page saying something like "great show last night, man". So I took that as my answer. But it's interesting that he was shady with you and that those concerts were false.

So, listening to his stuff... sometimes he sounds totally different. I hear one song and say "pfft, no way that's Jackson's voice" and then something else comes on and I'm like "hmm... that's kinda Jacksonesque".  I listened to the tribute song he has on there for Jackson (called... a hero has fallen or something like that) and I would never be able to mistake that for Michael.  But some of these others are pretty dang close, from the vibrato to the hiccup.  So unless this guy is in the habit of changing his voice around from song to song... I'm thinking something smells of fish.

Yes Johnny Depp is quite awesome. He is definitely talented enough and I did think of him when I saw the header for this thread but I'm pretty sure the original poster was questioning who could play Jackson as he was in the 80s. So unless we paint Depp black and make him 20 years more youthful, I don't see him being too convincing.  He is always my first choice though when it comes to complex characters... he's just so good at it.

I love it... It is creepy, dark and surprisingly inviting. It commands my attention... I love that you have your name on the tomb. Keep it up!

So it's not the same guy.

Sure wish we could see what's written below his name.  It's too blurry... kinda looks like a different language.

Personally, I would rather see a professional actor do it than a family member or musical artist.  Especially after that Man In The Mirror fiasco.  That whole situation was just a travesty.  But I'm hard pressed to come up with an actor that I think could really pull it off...

Here's a little Bio on him... I have no idea what his relationship to Michael is or why he'd be so lucky as to gain a spot on a tombstone... very interesting

ok don't shoot me.. i understand where you guys are coming from, being upset.. but if Michael was here in the flesh so to speak i think he would support it.. its for a good cause at the end of the day.. and there doing it the UK with

REM's everybody hurts..

i think you should look beyond the voice and think of this as Michaels influence.. it was his inspiration in the first place that they are re-doing this particular song.. he is still working his magic!!  ;)

i think its AWSOME!!

*cocks gun*
jk, jk.  :D

It's not exactly about Michael for me... it's about the legacy of the song.  The hearts behind it and the reason for it at the time (Michael just happens to be a very big part of that).  I understand that it's being done for a "good cause" but like others have said before me, there needs to be a different offering made for this particular cause.  You don't make the same sacrifice twice if you know what I mean.

I agree with lookingforthetroot that most of these artists are just in it for publicity (not all).  It's kind of a "we should probably do something" whim that isn't coming from anywhere deep...  they're just hijacking the work that came from someone else's heart.  It's been done.  It's there. Leave it alone.  Don't contaminate it with mere "good intentions" because it's bigger than that.  That's the problem I have with the remake.

But I'm glad you can see the good in it and stay optimistic.

It's not rude... it's just kinda like throwing your hands up when there's nothing more to say about it.
