Other Odd Things / Re: JIM CARREY: I LOVE YOU......I DO!!!!!
« on: August 29, 2011, 05:51:49 PM »
Thankyou very much @CC for reminding me about the 1988 film, the Truman Show, starring Jim Carey as Truman Burbank. Here is a brief synopsis of the film:

Quote
SYNOPSIS: The film centers on the life of Truman Burbank. At birth, Truman is legally adopted by a major television network to be the unknowing star of a television series, in which his entire life is watched by an audience of millions through an intricate series of hidden cameras. Christof, the main figure behind the concept of the Truman Show constructs an artificial world, entitled Seahaven, around Truman, which is actually just an extremely large television set. Everyone participating in this created world is an actor except for Truman himself. Truman is the only “authentic” person in this constructed world; even his mother, father, and wife are paid actors/actresses. Throughout his entire life, the television network is on a continual mission to keep Truman in ignorance of his situation through the manipulation of his environment. The film follows Truman’s eventual realization of the true nature of his reality and his dramatic escape from the artificial world.

@TheRunningGirl , there is also a FIJI reference in the Truman show. Truman decides he wants to travel to FIJI to realize a childhood dream and to relocate his lost love.

Quote
Truman Burbank is unknowingly the main character of The Truman Show, a widely acclaimed television show chronicling Truman's entire life. Situations and characters are contrived to create a fabricated world for Truman to inhabit. Little does Truman know his life is a television show - a lie, a public spectacle, a utopia that revolves around him. Although there were instances where the young Truman had come close to noticing faulty reality, he was always inhibited by clever means of concealing the truth.

Eventually, however, as Truman grows older and more perceptive, he begins to realize his life isn't consummate. As he reminisces about his lost love Sylvia, a high school crush who attempted to reveal the truth about his life, he decides he wants to go travel to Fiji. This venture is not only his childhood dream but his attempt to relocate Sylvia.

Peter Weir, the Director of the Truman Show, “...a bittersweet fantasy-satire of the media's control of life...”, in an interview, states that he based his title character on Michael Jackson.

Quote
'The Truman Show’ Based On Michael Jackson

Peter Weir in an interview, revealed the the 1998 movie, ‘The Truman Show’ was based on Michael Jackson. “You watch The Truman Show and, I mean, Jim Carrey did a fantastic job, but Michael Jackson is Truman. He’s who I based him on and he is the nearest thing to Truman.” Weir also says the movie ‘Simone’ was based on Michael. “And Michael Jackson, he is also the real life Victor in ‘Simone’. He had a talent and all he wanted was to share this and bring people happiness and escapism through entertainment. And people turn it around, they make it about the individual rather than the creation. It is the actual films, the actual music – that’s what it’s all about… People lose sight of this and the media make it all about the celebrity.”

There is no indication that Tom Jones has yet met with the crew.

I couldn’t help but notice your Tom Jones reference. He is Welsh and he is “Alive” apparently!

I’m Alive is Track #1 off of Tom Jones’ 2008 album, 24 Hours.  Apparently, Tom was inspired by the stylings of Amy Winehouse to make this, his comeback album.

Tom doesn’t move as well as Dodo these days ... but Hey! Who does?  :) :)

Tom Jones and Michael were good friends. One had girls throwing their panties at him on stage ... the other had girls fainting at his feet!

In this 6/29/2009 Sky News interview, Tom speaks very kindly of Michael, and of their longtime friendship:

Thankyou @TheRunningGirl, @Mjonmind and @voiceforthesilent.  It’s so much FUN to try and connect the dots!

Here’s one you all might like (special shout-out to@applehead250609)!

A video appeared on TMZ early this morning that was kind of suspicious. It was of Stevie Wonder singing Sweet Caroline at LAX.

Innocent enough...but I looked up the song Sweet Caroline on Wikipedia, and found this:

Quote
“Sweet Caroline”is popular at sporting events. The song is a tradition in many Major League Baseball stadiums. Boston's Fenway Parkhas played the song since at least 1997, and it has been played at every game in the middle of the eighth inning since 2002 by the influence of Amy Tobey, a production agent responsible for the audio played over the park's loudspeakers. "She had noticed 'Sweet Caroline' was used at other sporting events, and she decided to send the sweetness over the Fenway speakers." On opening night of the 2010 season at Fenway Park, the song was performed (albeit abridged) by Diamond himself. It is also played at sporting events at the University of Pittsburgh.

I thought that part about the University of Pittsburgh was pretty specific and not-so-coincidental, since I had brought up Pittsburgh in my earlier post. Is somebody watching us?  fresse/

Neil Diamond has written other songs like Cherry Cherry and I’m a Believer, the latter popularized by The Monkees back in the 60’s!  I’m a Believer was revitalized by the band Smash Mouth for the 2001 film Shrek.  Shrek is so GREEN!  Which, according to Kermit, it’s not easy bein’!

Emma Stone appears simultaneously as the love interest of Jim Carrey, in a recently released YouTube video, AND, as the possible love interest of Andrew Garfield, in a recent TMZ article.  Popular girl!  Whose web will she get caught up in?  Spiderman's or The Itsy Bitsy Spider's?!!!
Reference:You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Emma starred in the horror comedy Zombieland in 2009, in which her role as Wichita brought her to prominence. She is currently working on the sets of The Amazing Spiderman and Movie 43 and is part of the cast of the upcoming The Gangster Squad (To be directed by Rube Fleischer who also directed Zombieland).

Movie 43 will feature segments to be directed by Brett Ratner. 43 is 4/3 (3rd April), Paris’ birthday and the day Mohamed AL Fayed unveiled the Michael Jackson’s statue in front of his football club (4/03/2011).  Michael was 43 years old on the day he could have died in the 9/11 bombing of the WTC, had he attended the scheduled meeting he had in one of the twin towers.

Now Jim Carrey! A Canadian and a die-hard hockey fan! Most recently starred in the film Mr. Popper’s Penguins, released 6/17/2011.  Here is a clip of him rehearsing for a hockey scene that's in the movie:

In this film, Jim Carrey wears the jersey of a current Canadian hockey hero, Sidney Crosby.  Sidney is the Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team, one of Pennsylvania’s two NHL teams:

Nelson de la Nuez’s painting, “The Greatest Show on Earth”, showed a green-jacketed Michael (probably the jacket he borrowed from Arnold Klein!) in the lower left corner. Michael is also wearing a sign around his neck that says (in my opinion), “Take Care”, and also has the number 7 within a logo that resembles the logo on the Philadelphia Flyers’ jerseys.

Frank Dileo was born in Pittsburg Pennsylvania and 34 year-old Ryan Dunn, the JackASS star, had spent 4 hours in a Philadelphia bar before he killed himself behind the wheel of his Porsche 911, on a Route 322 in West Chester, a suburb of Philadelphia.

May they both R.I.P. if they have passed.

PS.  Michael is wearing his Smooth Criminal/ganster fedora in the Nelson de la Nuez painting.  Frank Dileo is known for his portrayal of gangster Tuddy Cicero in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 gangster movie Goodfellas.

This is the same Martin Scorsese that directed Michael’s 1987 short film BAD!!!

Frank Dileo managed the King Of Pop career at the height of his reign in fact Jackson called him my other half, my shield of armor.

Frank: Why did he fire me? That’s a good question, but I think it was ah, ah, he fired me because it was politically asked of him. There was an outside record executive with a big time lawyer and one executive at Sony who would like to see Michael’s power cut in half. And by getting rid of me was half the power.

This was Phantom of the Opera's first comment under the latest TMZ/Michael Jackson/Estate article.  I thought that it fit in quite nicely with this post, as Frank Dileo was Michael's manager during the BAD era!

18 years ago today, August 24, 1993, Diane Dimond delivered Breaking News to the public that Michael Jackson had been accused of Child Molestation.

Also, wasn’t it a “fan” that phoned Frank Dileo on his personal cell phone, to alert Frank that Michael has been taken to the hospital the morning of June 25, 2009?

Oh! And the Cardiff Giant tribute tickets went on sale today!

This announcement made me think of the recent comment by Jay-Z comparing his wife, Beyonce, to Michael Jackson!  mj_bad/

Entertainment Weekly writes:
Quote
During an interview with Miami radio station 99 Jamz, Jay compared his wife’s work ethic to that of late pop icon Michael Jackson. Then he took it a step further, saying she’s the closest thing we’ve got to MJ now.

Quote
'What I’ve learned from her is the same thing I learned from Mike,' Jay said after being asked what Beyoncé’s taught him.  'And I know it’s blasphemy to compare the two because Mike was such an innovator. But I think she’s like the second coming. The hard work and the dedication that she puts into her shows… It just makes you want to work harder at your craft. She’s like a machine.'

I just came across this video which shows clearly how much James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, means to Michael.

It also looks like Augusta, Georgia, James Brown's home town, was possibly named after the "then" (1700's) Princess Augusta of WALES!

Thankyou for your well-researched “Green” post @TheRunningGirl!

“Bein’ Green” is such a beautiful song!

Quote
...written by Joe Raposo in 1970 for the first season of the children's television program Sesame Street. It was originally performed by Kermit the Frog (voiced by Jim Henson).

In the song, Kermit begins by lamenting his green coloration, expressing that green ‘blends in with so many ordinary things’ and wishing to be some other color. But by the end of the song, Kermit recalls positive associations with the color green, and concludes by accepting and embracing his greenness.

Michael LOVED KERMIT:

Quote
A picture of Michael with Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog is featured in Michael’s 1988 autobiography,Moon Walk. This picture was shown during the "Michael Jackson Public Memorial Service", held in Los Angeles at the Staples Center; the broadcast was aired internationally, to an estimated audience of 1 billion people.
In the documentary, Living with Michael Jackson, features a Kermit the Frog pill box as part of Michael’s's collection.

Oscar the Grouch also sang his own version of “Bein’ Green”:

Michael appeared in a segment with Oscar the Grouch in the 1978 “A Special Sesame Street Christmas.”

So, it seems that Michael definitely has a place in his heart for the magic of Jim Henson and the lovable Muppet characters.

Even more amazingly, Michael “saved” The Children’s Television Workshop (today known as Sesame Workshop), the non-profit organization that is behind the production of Sesame Street, from a costly law suit and possible bankruptcy.

When the Beatles' catalogue was still owned by Northern Songs, the company attempted to sue Children's Television Workshop for $5.5 million. They cited that the song too closely resembled ‘Let It Be.’ Before the case came to trial, Michael Jackson purchased the Lennon/McCartney catalogue and the suit was dropped. The Children's Television Workshop was only fined $50, which was paid out of Christopher Cerf's own pocket. Paul McCartney, who was not involved in the lawsuit, wrote to Cerf saying that he liked the song.

Hello @TheMoonIsDancing.

Quote
Do we have CONCRETE proof of Gene Simmons actually saying 'Michael Jackson is a child molestor'? Is there footage of these words coming from his own mouth?

I was able to find a Gene Simmons interview, by a Toronto radio station, in which Gene Simmons speaks to his beliefs about Michael. The interview is conducted sometime after June 25, 2009.

Gene Simmons is very well-spoken AND he speaks with conviction.  He has made his feelings about Michael VERY clear to the public. So, one has to ask the question, WHY would this man be invited to pay tribute to another man whom he clearly does not not like or support?. And, WHY would he have EVER accepted that invitation? I’m on the lookout for a statement from Gene Simmons on this one! He must have had a complete change of heart! A VIRTUAL 360 degree turn!

It sounds like a movie script, doesn’t it?

Here is a telling comment about the lonely side of fame, as explained by one of Jani's fellow rockers.

Quote
SEBASTIAN BACH Comments On The Death Of Jani Lane

Former SKID ROW vocalist SEBASTIAN BACH has issued the following message in tribute to the passing of former WARRANT singer JANI LANE who died August 11th:

Quote
"People have been asking me about Jani Lane & I really don't know what to say. Picturing him by himself in a Comfort Inn in Woodland Hills with a bottle of vodka & a bottle of pills is so typical of what a rock musician's life actually is. It is a life marked by extremes. Extreme attention from people you don't know, while all the work & travel takes you away from those you actually do know. Playing to thousands of people & then going back to your hotel room & shutting the door.

When the door shuts... the quiet is the exact opposite of the volume of the concert. The solitude of the empty hotel room becomes the diametric parallel of the adulation of strangers. For some, the bottle of vodka or whatever becomes a friend that is always there for you while others come & go.

Yes I have felt these emotions myself. If you see me going head over heels over a girl, it's because all I have ever wanted is to have a girl to love & share my life with, & for the one I love to be with me wherever I'm at, travel with me to distant locales & stay in nice kick ass hotel suites & have fun & sing & dance & see the world. But so far this is a fantasy.

Just like Jani, I spend most of my time alone in a hotel room dreaming of a girl I love who is somewhere else. I bet Jani Lane felt exactly what I feel. How could he not? I remember decades ago being invited to Jani's house for a barbeque, which we went to. But Jani didn't show up. So I spent the afternoon with Jani's Dad cooking burgers & steaks & having a wonderful day with his family.

My condolences to his family & especially Jani's children who now only have memories of their Dad to hold on to. That is truly heartbreaking. Let this be yet another lesson to tell someone some kind words sometimes... before it's too late... while they are still alive. I can guarantee Jani Lane would not have anticipated everyone coming out of the woodwork extolling the life & times of Jani Lane. Which is why he probably died alone. In a hotel room. With his only real friend... that killed him in the end."

Ever since reading about MJ and 9/11 and how he escaped death by not attending that morning meeting at the World Trade Center I cannot get the musical Godspell or its connection to this out of my head!!!!

That is an interesting comment @michaelsupporter

The Brooklyn Bridge is featured in both the film Godspell AND The Wiz.  The Twin Towers are seen with the bridge in the picture in both films.

Quote
New York landmarks play a major part in this movie musical. The yellow brick road that Dorothy and friends follow extends into a subway station and across Brooklyn Bridge; thrash bins become monsters attacking the characters in the subway station; New York Cabs are seen during their journey and the characters stay in an a Motel named after Emerald City. Most significantly of all, the Emerald City Citizens sing and dance the song "Emerald City" below the majestically lit World Trade CenterTwinTowers.

You can see John in Godspell, walking the same Brooklyn Bridge @2:15, in this video from The Micheal Project 20:
