MJ Tributes / Smooth Criminal Flash Mob
« on: January 22, 2011, 06:04:43 AM »
There was a link on the Michael Jackson Official Facebook Page that led to a Smooth Criminal Flash Mob video, which is quite cool. One thing that immediately sticks out about this is the page the video is hosted on and some of you may understand why...  ;)

Eataly Gets Hit By 'Smooth Criminal' Flash Mob
First Posted: 01/21/11 02:30 PM Updated: 01/21/11 05:50 PM

The King of Pop may be gone, but his music will no doubt inspire flash mobs for years to come.

Classical violinist David Garrett and a group of musicians and dancers, dressed in chefs' coats, congregated at Eataly yesterday for a flash mob performance of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal."

Watch the timeless ode to the tragedies of spousal abuse take new form below.

MJ Estate Shuts Down 'Moonwalker' Screening

22 minutes ago by TMZ Staff

Another crushing blow to Michael Jackson fans ... TMZ has learned the MJ estate has blocked an L.A. movie company from finally screening "Moonwalker" in an American theater.

The ArcLight theater had been on the hunt for a film print of the 1988 cult-classic ... but was having trouble because the film was never officially released in theaters in the U.S.

Now, ArcLight explains ... "We have bad news. It's not available" ... adding, "We contacted the films directors and producers and were finally directed to MJ's estate attorney. They let us know the estate has the rights, but 'have no plans to make... prints available for rent at this time.'"

However, the estate didn't slam the door on the idea of releasing it in the future ... so keep your fingers crossed.

Michael / Re: Shocking Discovery in "MICHAEL" Booklet
« on: January 14, 2011, 07:49:30 AM »
Michael Durham Prince is a member of the US rock band Legs Diamond that formed in the mid 1970's, he plays keyboards and rhythm guitar, but is not a vocalist. The band still play occasionally and are due to release a new album sometime in the not too distant future. He is a studio recording engineer and has worked with artists including Beyonce, Usher and Chris Brown, as well as Michael Jackson.

I don't see how people have made such a mountain of this subject, the booklet clearly states that the album contains 9 previously unreleased vocal tracks performed by Michael Jackson. You'll notice the only time MJ's name is listed inside the booklet as 'vocals/backing vocals by' is when there is more than one person singing either lead or backing vocals, such as the track that has James Porte as a vocalist with Michael, or Lenny Kravitz is a backing vocalist. This is to show that Michael was working on his vocal, be it backing or lead, in collaboration with someone else, as they obviously wouldn't just be able to put "Vocals; James Porte" as that would not be correct, considering it is MJ singing, but with James. Michael Durham Prince is simply the vocal recordist on the tracks that he is listed on and they need to put his job to distinguish from other jobs that you can have in a recording studio. His specaility for the tracks was just to make sure that Michael's vocals were recorded properly and that was his job, he was obviously not involved in other parts of the recording or engineering of the tracks or he would have been listed as such.

To clear this up further, check some of your other CD album booklets, not necissarily ones by MJ and look at what it says about recording and engineering. I have a CD by say Peter Gabriel and it says, recorded by and then a bunch of names of people I've never heard of. It doesn't mean they played all the instruments and sang on it, they are the studio technicians who recorded the instruments and Peter's vocals. All the band members are listed individually with the instruments they play. And even in some instances this may not be the case, but it is still obvious that it is.

It seems TMZ has imposed this block permanantly for legal resaons, however, for people in the UK who can't access TMZ at this time (Including myself) try using this link:

Michael Jackson News / Re: Another Day - New Leak
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:02:06 AM »
I don't think it's less powerfull, it's just the way it's mixed together. In the first leak the instrumentation is quite small, just strings, some guitar, bass and drums with Michael's Vocal. Where it wasn't professionally finished it wasn't mixed right so everything was just on one level and Michael's voice stood out more because it had more reverb on it and melted in with the mix, but the version was also low quality.

This version on the other hand sounds finished and is much higher quality. Dave Grohl has re-recorded the drum parts and Lenny has put down new bass and guitar parts and backing vocals, and the string parts are now lower in the mix. All the other instruments are mixed in at a higher level and Lenny's backing vox are almost at the same level as Michael's lead, which is why his voice doesn't sound as powerful in the previous version.

You must also remember that this is Lenny's song and is the only song on the album written by a featured artist alone and not written by Michael (except Hold My Hand). It was also mixed and produced by Lenny and he has a quite unique style which I think shows in this version.

Michael Jackson News / Re: MONSTER ( FULL SONG)
« on: December 03, 2010, 05:28:33 AM »
What I think is happening here is several demo versions of each song are being leaked to throw us off the scent of what the music will actually be like when it is released. It's actually a rather clever marketing ploy, probably devised by Sony. The earliest example for this being the leak of Hold My Hand in 2008

This track is not the official or final version of the song (mainly due to the fact is does not feature a rap verse by 50 cent) and its my opinion that this track will be very different when it is released on the album.

Michael Jackson News / Re: All I Need (FullSong)
« on: December 01, 2010, 01:49:27 PM »
I'm rather dubious about this track. Whereas I think that 'Breaking News' is sung by Michael (along with maybe 2 other people lending extra thickening and backing, but definately his lead all the way through,) I do not think that this is Michael Jackson and I thought this immediately, even before the end of the first vocal phrase.

I hoped that Ghosts would be in the original version. But it is not. I think it's such a great short film and only available on VHS. I copied it from VHS to DVD. But the quality is quite bad. I don't like so much the version in Vision, because you don't get the story at all. Also it was very difficult to find this VHS cassette on here.

It's the video version of the single, Ghosts was more of a 'feature' film based around several songs, rather than a short film just based on one song. Vision is about Michael's short films, hence why it only has the Ghosts single as opposed to the whole film, which has a runtime of almost 40 minutes. Agreed that you don't get the whole story, but you do get a glimpse of the idea and you can pretty much work out whats going on if you've never seen it before. I also do agree though that the entire film should be released on DVD and no doubt in the future it will be.  8-)

I don't really understand why it's on there to be honest, I don't think it's anything to do with Haiti etc. Besides Vision is about the short films and not so much the music, and this version has been released before on the HIStory on Film DVD and the enhanced Visionary single DVD. I suppose it's just becuase it has additional scenes to the original video/album version (as the remix is an extra minute or so) and they just wanted to show more of Michael  8-)

Oh, that's a bad news, I prefer the original... Maybe they'll give both?  :?

Me too, I was quite shocked and rather disappointed when it started playing, but unfortunately it only has the Remixed version
