Michael Jackson News / Tupac's 1994 Shooting Finally Solved?
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:28:56 PM »
The 1994 shooting that badly injured late rapper Tupac Shakur — and ignited an ultimately deadly East Coast-West Coast hip-hop feud — might finally be solved, after a man admitted to his involvement in the crime.

On Nov. 30, 1994, Tupac was shot five times — including twice in the head — and robbed, a crime which, at the time, pointed fingers at the likes of rap rival Sean Combs. According to the Village Voice, after nearly two decades of denying his involvement, drug lord James "Jimmy Henchman" Rosemond — who was also suspected by Tupac, as heard in the song "Against All Odds" — implicated himself last fall during testimony in an unrelated drug trial.

While Rosemond is facing life in prison for the drug charges, neither he nor anyone else involved in the shooting will ever face charges stemming from the incident, which left Tupac hospitalized. (The rapper famously checked himself out of the hospital three hours after emergency surgery, against medical advice.)

The truth behind the rapper's 1996 murder, however, still remains a mystery.

Thank You To The Fans!
Thank you for all your help and support over the past weeks. Michael said many times how important his fans were to him. Thank you for keeping his music alive and for helping us celebrate IMMORTAL's first week of release.

This was an email I received just now, from the official MichaelJackson.com page. It seems strange but I think the heading says it all, a nice message for the 29th.

Global Truce 2012

BE PART OF THE BIGGEST CALL FOR PEACE THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN

Tomorrow is Peace Day

It’s Peace Day eve.

I’m standing in the office, looking at a team working incredibly hard trying to get everything ready for tomorrow.

I’ve just met with Sebastian Coe, London 2012 organising committee chair, to record his statement for the O2 Arena. He’s a great man doing an incredible job and I’m really proud that Peace One Day has the opportunity to work with him and LOCOG, particularly in relation to our concerts, raising awareness of Global Truce 2012.

The POD celebration concert 2011 at the O2 Arena London has an amazing line-up: Yusuf (Cat Stevens), Razorlight, Newton Faulkner, Eliza Doolittle, AfroReggae, English National Ballet and Flawless. If you are able to join us, we look forward to seeing you there!

Have an incredible day tomorrow. Good luck with your Peace Day activities. Here’s to Global Truce 2012!

In peace

Jeremy

James Brown / James Brown's publicist claims late soul legend was 'murdered'

September 15, 2011 17:04 James Brown's publicist claims late soul legend was 'murdered' Jacque Hollander says she has been forced into hiding after receiving death threats

Photo: PAJames Brown's publicist has hired a private detective to investigate the late soul legend's death.

Jacque Hollander believes the singer was murdered and has never accepted that he suffered a heart attack and died on Christmas Day in 2006. She claims she has been forced into hiding after receiving death threats for going public with her murder claims.

Hollander also claims that Brown's son-in-law Darren Lumar was killed in November 2008 following his appearance on a local Georgia TV show, where he offered up his thoughts about the soul legend's death insisting, "There's not a bone in my body that believes my father-in-law died from congestive heart failure."

Brown's former publicist is convinced Lumar was murdered because he knew too much. "He was going to tell the truth about what was done to James Brown," she told US tabloid The Globe "Now I am living in fear of my life because I'm the one who can bring forth the truth."

General Hoax Talk / There'll never be another Michael
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:33:39 PM »
Updated 10 hr(s) 57 min(s) ago
By TONY MOCHAMA and DAVID ODONGO

Watching Tusker All Stars two weeks ago, it was apalling to hear Eve D'Souza say that Tanzanian contestant Hemedi, is Africa's Michael Jackson. It was incredulous to hear Eve repeat this assertion a second time. To compare the bearded reality TV show contestant (who used his last moment of fame to call Ian Mbugua a ‘farmer’) to the King of Pop borders on artistic sacrilege.

Exactly two years and two months after his demise, it is perhaps time to remind the likes of Eve D’Souza why one cannot throw around the name MJ loosely.

Michael Jackson wowed the whole world. He was the sound track of our childhoods with his Billie Jean, Dirty Diana and Man in the Mirror. He was named in Time Magazine’s 1999 edition of 100 Greatest Personalities of the 20th Century.

MJ was a performer and a perfectionist. He was the ‘Gloved One’, and after his death, the loved one! He achieved that one name thing – When one said ‘Michael’ in normal conversation, it was assumed one was talking about Michael Jackson. Even that other MJ (Michael Jordan, not Michael Joseph) needed a title ‘His Airness’ because there was room for only one Michael.

MJ was a mesmeric figure, who lived life weirdly, but did it his way.

He was angelic in disgrace and a shaman on the stage, who retained an air of androgeny. Often, Michael did not seem quite real to the rest of the world. He grew up on our Tvs, an electronic piece of dancing wizardry, literally from the age of five to the time he stopped being alive at 50.

Michael single-handedly revived the music industry with his monster hit, Thriller, still the best selling single of all time, that captured the sinister air of the start of the 1980s in America, released almost a year to the date that the scary Aids virus was announced in the USA.

MJ became, by far, the biggest pop star of the 1980s by an infinite margin, leaving stardust in his back slide. By the 1990s, his personal demons seemed to be on the ascendant, but he was only human. And as Eminem sings: "Superstardom precedes post-mortem."

Michael Jackson took his voice as a Brazilian bullhorn for his message to ‘heal the world’, and used his body as a volatile vessel that amalgamated dance and melanin experimentation. When his spiritual drive was exhausted, sapped by pain medication addiction, cash flow problems and legal battles, his body burnt out.

Yes, Michael Jackson never made the great ‘comeback’ he was attempting to at 50, in London, by doing 50 shows in 50 days. He died in the middle of the rehearsal period. But he had done enough, we dare say, so that in 2055, there will still be an anchoress of whatever passes for TV then main-streaming him in a quote. However random!

For like Elvis, Bob Marley and Frank Sinatra before him, Michael Jackson’s influence has continued, and grown, since his untimely death on June 25, 2009.

Michael Jackson figures

$72million: According to Box Office Mojo, Jackson’s post-humous concert film, This Is It, has grossed more than $72million to date domestically and $189 million in foreign markets for a worldwide take over more than $261million. It ranks as the #2 music documentary of all-time behind Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never (which is really degenerate of our youth). The film has also generated nearly $45 million in DVD sales in the US

$15,000 (Sh1.4m): The number of videos submitted by fans since March for the crowd sourced video for Behind the Mask. After they were edited down by a five-person team over two months, the resulting clip used submissions from more than 1,600 participants from 103 countries.

$3m (Sh278m): The amount of copies sold of the Ubisoft Michael Jackson: The Experience video game worldwide.

$57m (Sh5.3m): The reported cost of Cirque du Soleil’s traveling MJ show, The Immortal World Tour, which is slated to kick off on October 2.

$1b (Sh9.2b): That gaudy figure is the reported amount the Jackson estate had generated by last June on the first anniversary of the singer’s death. According to Billboard magazine, the revenue was generated by a combination of music sales ($429 million), film/TV revenue ($392 million), music publishing ($130 million), licensing ($35 million) and a $31 million recording contract. (A spokesperson for Jackson’s estate declined to provide updated figures for this story.)

16.1m (Sh1.5b): MJ was always a big singles artiste. Yes, Thriller is one of the best-selling albums of all time, but even in death, fans can’t resist cherry-picking some of Michael’s best songs. That explains why he’s sold more than 16 million digital tracks since June 28, 2009, the first sales week following his passing, according to Nielsen SoundScan. To put that in perspective, from the time Nielsen began counting digital tracks in 2004 until the week before Jackson’s death, the singer had sold just over 8.1 million digital tracks, a figure that has doubled in just the past two years.

2013: The projected launch for a second, non-touring Cirque show celebrating Jackson. The yet-untitled show is slated to open in the spring of 2013 at a new theater being built at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Review: 'Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead?' might be the worst movie ever

Scott Wampler, Comedy Examiner
July 26, 2011 -

You've never heard of the just-released-on-Netflix-Instant Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? but it's time you were made aware of its existence. This documentary (and we use that term very, very loosely) was made by "investigative journalist" (note: we're going to be using a lot of words loosely today) Pearl Jr., who might just be the most incompetent filmmaker, journalist, film presence, and all-around human-being that's ever walked the Earth. But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't watch Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? as soon as humanly possible. Read on for the review, my gentle Examiner readers...

A few years ago, when pop-superstar Michael Jackson died, the world enjoyed a nice bit of collective nostalgia for the Michael Jackson that was: Jackson's albums leaped to the top of the Billboard charts, the other Jackson Five members crawled out from under a series of rocks to express how distressed they were over Michael's death (despite the fact that more than a couple of 'em hadn't spoken to "MJ" in years), and-- for the briefest of moments-- the world put aside all the crazy rumors, salacious innuendoes, and creepy speculations to celebrate the dude that had made Thriller 25 years prior. It was sad to see Michael Jackson die, but it seemed to inspire a newfound wave of respect for the King of Pop.

And so, in the year 2011, it's time to mark the end of that respectful period. It's time for the bizzarely-titled Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? currently available for purchase on Amazon.com or as an instant download from Netflix Instant.

Now, you're probably wondering why the hell we're discussing Alive? here at Comedy Examiner HQ. That's probably because you haven't seen Alive? but once you've seen it-- and, if I'm successful in my mission here, that's precisely what you're going to do by the time this article wraps-- you'll understand completely why we'd decide to cover it under the Comedy Examiner by-line: this is (without question) the most warped, childishly-produced, batsh-t crazy, woefully incompetent documentary that we have ever seen. Ever.

Have you seen that half-assed documentary about UFO's starring Dan Aykroyd? Well, Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? makes that film look like The Thin Blue Line. The "film" (again, we use that term in the loosest way possible) unfolds across just 53 minutes, offering one piece of "evidence" after another in support of writer/director/star (again, think: "loose," loose-like-Amy-Fisher loose) Pearl Jr.'s theory that Michael Jackson is...alive? Murdered? Some combination of the two? Pearl Jr.'s not big on "sticking to one theory." These bits of "evidence" are really just random "facts," innuendoes, and leaps-in-logic that-- on their own-- mean nothing, but when combined...still mean nothing.

For example: did you know that both the ambulance and fire truck that arrived at Jackson's Neverland Ranch on the day he died both had the number 71 painted on their sides? And did you know that Michael Jackson's name has 17 letters in it? Coincidence? Pearl Jr. thinks not, and-- judging from that smug grin that's plastered on her face throughout the "film"-- you might be an idiot for not seeing the connection here: Obviously, an ambulance designated as #71 and a dead pop-star with 17 letters in his name can only mean one thing: cold-blooded murder. Or a death-hoax. Again, the bottom line isn't as important to Pearl Jr. as her ability to randomly spout "proofs" (she actually uses this term at one point) in support of her ever-changing theory.

Also, did you know that Michael Jackson was an Elvis Presley fan? And that he once told an interviewer that he was "going to end up just like Elvis"? Well, murder. Did you know that a photo exists of Michael Jackson looking into a camera? Well, that's clearly evidence of a faked-death. Did you know that Pearl Jr. went to the website of the cemetery where Michael Jackson is supposedly "buried," and found that the intimate details of his burial plot weren't even available to her on said website? Well, murder/death-hoax, you take your pick.

When I tell you that Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? is incompetently-made, those words do not do the actuality of the film's incompetence justice. Random photos of Jackson are projected onscreen along with archival footage of him performing, getting into cars, meeting fans, entering courtrooms, shopping, and so on. Talking-head "experts" pop up, offering "information" in random spurts and dribbles, none of it adding up to anything. From time to time, the "film" cuts back to what appears to be a middle-school library, where Pearl Jr. will dazzle you with a wide array of poses: here's Pearl Jr. looking coy, chin in her hand, grinning at the camera. Here's Pearl Jr., smiling broadly (and not a little inappropriately) while talking about Jackson's death. Here's Pearl Jr. gesturing wildly, saying words like "supposebly" and "Marlon Brandon."

My associate and I happened to stumble upon this travesty while pouring through the latest additions to Netflix Instant, and it might just be the greatest discovery I have ever made: by the end of the film, we were shrieking with laughter (and, lemme tell ya, folks: I don't shriek easily), screaming at the screen every time that Pearl Jr. presented a new piece of "evidence" (or, in the parlance of Pearl Jr., a new "proofs"). The last time I experienced a film this poorly-made and hilarious, it was James Nguyen's Birdemic, but I gotta hand it to Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead?: Birdemic looks like a Kubrickian masterpiece next to Pearl Jr.'s jaw-droppingly awful groin-punch of a "documentary." This "film" will redefine your understanding of the words "bad," "awful," "incompetent," "amateurish," and "terrible." Considering that Sarah Jessic Parker doesn't appear in a single frame of the "film," that's no easy feat.

It's clear that Pearl Jr. is very, very interested in Michael Jackson as a subject, but-- over and over again-- she fails to turn her obvious interest in that subject into anything remotely watchable: clearly, "being a director" was not part of God's plan for Pearl Jr. The "information" (as it were) is borderline-impossible to understand-- presented in a manner that might accurately be described as "someone blindly firing a shotgun inside a darkened room"-- and the "sources" that Pearl Jr. presents are flat-out absurd: this will be the only documentary ever made that quotes the Weekly World News as a valid source of information.

But the film doesn't just fail in terms of information-delivery: the film quality itself is laughable--it's very possible that Alive? was actually filmed on slices of Velveeta cheese. It also doesn't appear to contain a single "shot" that lasts longer than three-seconds. Add all these factors together, and you'll have no choice but to believe that Pearl Jr. learned everything she needed to know about filmmaking from Michael Bay, Harmony Korine, and Lloyd Kauffman. In case I haven't been clear here, let's just be direct: this is a staggeringly bad film, one whose inclusion on Netflix is far more upsetting to me as a Netflix customer than any price-hike the company may ever send my way.

Now, usually this is the part where we'd wrap up, begging you to head to your TV, computer, or tablet-device immediately to watch this monument to stupid, but it turns out we've got a little more to offer you: If you head on over to Amazon.com right now (HERE, I'll even give you the link), you'll find that Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? has a number of "customer reviews." Curious as to what these reviews might say, I couldn't help but read through them. Predictably, there were a number of one- or zero-star reviews, but there are also a number of five-star reviews, one of which calls Pearl Jr.'s film "the most important journalistic film ever made."

You're probably already ahead of me here, but I began to suspect that Pearl Jr. was the author of these five-star reviews around about the time that I noticed the exact same comment on three different five-star reviews, all of which were supportive of Pearl Jr.'s "theories" (you might also notice that I couldn't help but helpfully point out my suspicions in response to some of these reviews). So, not only has Pearl Jr. created what might be the world's worst documentary-- think about that for a minute-- but she also may or may not be writing her own five-star reviews on her film's product page over on Amazon. This, you'll note, is its own conspiracy, and I am strongly considering making my own "documentary" in response to it titled Bullsh-t! Did Pearl Jr. Write Her Own Amazon Reviews?

Throughout the film, I plan on staring into the camera while making a variety of inappropriate-for-the-material facial expressions, using iMovie to edit in a series of shots of Pearl Jr. typing on a keyboard, and-- just for some added flavor-- a few quotes that I will attribute to the Weekly World News. Seriously, guys, someone needs to blow the lid off this thing, and fast.

One final note: Pearl Jr.'s film posits that Michael Jackson will "return to life" in July of 2011. We are very, very close to the end of July, 2011, and Jackson has-- as of yet-- not reappeared. If he doesn't reappear, I hereby demand that Pearl Jr. make a sequel to her seminal film: the world needs to know why Michael chose not to return. One even suspects that Pearl Jr. might be responsible for Jackson being a no-show: now that Pearl's blown MJ's cover, how will he ever be able to face his fans again?

My grade: As an actual film, F- (cubed). As an experience, A+

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sony studios on Friday asked the judge hearing Michael Jackson's manslaughter trial to throw out a subpoena for footage of the singer's final rehearsals after a defense attorney said earlier this week that reviewing them was "a big waste of time."
Attorneys for Sony Pictures Entertainment, which has footage from the "This Is It" film depicting Jackson's last rehearsals, argue in a motion that neither prosecutors nor defense attorneys should be able to show the footage during the trial.
Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor is scheduled to consider the request on Monday, but canceled plans to review the outtakes over the weekend. In a ruling, he stated that he had watched some of the 16 hours that attorneys were considering presenting to jurors, but that he would not travel to Sony studios for additional viewings on Saturday and Sunday.
The studio based its motion on quotes defense attorney J. Michael Flanagan made after a hearing Wednesday in which he said
the footage doesn't show the singer was in poor health in the days before he died.
Flanagan represents Dr. Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge related to Jackson's death.
"We believe his health is somewhat compromised, but he's not displaying it,"
Flanagan told reporters, including The Associated Press. He added that he thought the footage was irrelevant to the trial.
"I really think it's a big waste of time," he said.
Sony seized on the statement in its motion, writing, "If the enterprise is a waste of time, the court has stated that it has little time to be wasted."
Flanagan did not immediately return a phone message Friday afternoon.
Defense attorneys had been hoping the unseen footage from "This Is It" would support their contention that Jackson was frail in the days before his June 25 death.
Prosecutors found the footage helpful to their case, and asked Pastor to allow them to use up to 12 hours of raw footage. Murray's team wanted to show up to four hours from the rehearsals.
Jury selection in Murray's trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8.

Michael Jackson News / MJ predicted his death - in Latoya's New Book
« on: June 17, 2011, 02:03:11 PM »
The mystery hanging large over Michael Jackson's untimely death refuses to die. Now in a latest, his sister's new book Starting Over raises even more questions.

Says La Toya Jackson, that the first thing that struck her when she learned of her brother's death was, "Who killed Michael?"

The book, scheduled to go on sale next week, also has it that MJ had often voiced his fears that he'd be killed over his estate and music publishing catalog.

In a heartening account, La Toya says that MJ's daughter Paris confided in her that "Daddy was always cold" and that "he would always cry."

She paints a rather grim picture of Jackson's bedroom after his demise, and found it "torn to pieces," with furniture all messed up and items carelessly thrown about. He also wanted his father's Joseph's help to "get these people out of my life." MJ was most reluctant to do anything more than 10 shows for his comeback gig, but the pressure on him was enormous as he was arm-twisted into agreeing to a total of 50 shows!

Lupe Fiasco called out President Barack Obama this week, calling his fellow Chicagoan "the biggest terrorist."

The comments came in an interview with CBS News Tuesday while discussing the political content of his music.

"My fight against terrorism, to me, the biggest terrorist is Obama in the United States of America. I'm trying to fight the terrorism that's actually causing the other forms of terrorism. You know, the root cause of terrorism is the stuff the U.S. government allows to happen. The foreign policies that we have in place in different countries that inspire people to become terrorists."

It has emerged that Will Smith's children Jaden and Willow are not only hanging out with kids, but are also helping them to enjoy their childhood, and has been arranged by Jackson’s mother Katherine.

Jaden and Willow didn't just bump into Michael's kids on a movie set in LA the other day -- TMZ has learned, it was all set up by Katherine... to help nudge her grandchildren in a positive direction.

Sources close to Katherine told TMZ.com that she believes the Smith children are prime examples of young success in Hollywood -- both extremely talented and down-to-earth -- and thinks Prince, Paris, and Blanket could learn a lot from them.

According to sources, Katherine wants to surround her grandchildren with role models like Jaden and Willow -- so she set up the meet-and-greet... and we're told, the kids got along like a house on fire.

Katherine is also said to be actively encouraging Michael's kids to become involved in all kinds of activities, including acting.

Other Odd Things / Yesterday's Castle Episode -"Poof! You're Dead"
« on: January 11, 2011, 08:50:20 AM »
Did anyone catch yesterday's episode of Castle.

It was about a magician's death.

But the important thing was the plot. A millionaire who loves audiences and does everything publicly, hoaxes his death and then comes to his own funeral as they say he would want to see what the public thought about him or said.

When they arrested the millionaire he said they could not hold him for faking his death because it was not a crime. The death was hoaxed with the help of a magician who helped him disappear.
