Thanks for the tip! Personally I've always thought that Jay Z (and by extension, Beyonce) and Kanye all know about the hoax and that sometimes you find references in their music.

How long d'you reckon before this Christopher Gaspard does an about-face and claims his fbook was hacked? It sounds too much like the Jason Malachi fiasco from the last posthumous album released of "new" material.

My two cents, after having watched the performance once on youtube yesterday, is that it's a hologram of someone impersonating Michael. Sorry but that's not Michael's body at all. The dance moves might be from different eras but they didn't take them from existing performances since the technology needs a 3D performance to draw on, not something like video footage, apparently. Then the face is more CGI-like, and superimposed on to the performer's body. Since no one has a face like Michael (and we would all recognize one of the well-known impersonators) they had to make an animated version of it singing new lyrics.

It was disappointing because they hyped it up so much... HIStory-making TV and all that. Then when news broke that it was gonna be a hologram they tried to save it, saying that it was going to be lightyears beyond the Tupac and Elvis holograms. But according to a lot of you, it was worse! Too bad, too bad about it.

Is Michael Jackson returning to the stage?

toofab has learned there's a top-secret, hush-hush MJ "moment" going down at this weekend's Billboard Music Awards. While the details are mysterious, we're told it's not a "tribute" from other performers and any speculation already out in the press is "wrong."

The Estate of Michael Jackson was present at a closed dress rehearsal for the "moment" at 6:30pm on Thursday in Las Vegas -- and we're told everyone watching had to sign a non-disclosure agreement in order to keep the specifics under wraps.

Here's what we do know ...

- Insiders describe the spot as "a world on stage that captures the essence of Michael, all the excitement and magic that is MJ."

- It will also include music from Jackson's posthumus "Xscape" album, which was just released worldwide on Tuesday.

- We're told it'll make stunts like 2Pac's now infamous hologram performance at Coachella look "like a 1980s video game."

All will be revealed on Sunday night, when the Billboard Music Awards go down at 8pm on ABC.

What do you guys think? It sounds pretty bammy to me but I'm not going to get my hopes up. I suspect it's just another hologram... although the article purports that all media speculation is wrong about the performance, they do seem to suggest a comparison to Tupac's hologram. Would a "better hologram" really be all that exciting?

Surely we are still in the 'Illusion Period'?

I tend to agree with curls. I think we all know that MJ was very interested in illusion prior to completing Moonwalker. Illusion is a general term, and it makes me think too about IMAGE, i.e. his public image versus his private image. Any entertainer is going to be concerned about that, MJ most of all, and he has been in the business since around age 5 I think. So he had already been thinking about protecting his privacy and what illusions he needed to create in order to do so, well before Moonwalker.

Illusion could also refer to the "escape" MJ always wanted to provide his fans, or the "magic" experienced in a performance. So yes, a hoax would be part of that. It's hard to know when MJ first had an idea for the hoax, as opposed to when the hoax (as an illusion) actually began. I am nowhere near figuring that out! I personally think we lose sight of the essence of the hoax when we get mired down in Numerology. Whether you give credit to that or not, I don't think it's a very important aspect. The presence of 7s, if you believe in Numerology, could provide clues or hints but they can't EXPLAIN the intricacies of MJ's master plan.

For those of us still here, I assume we all still believe that the hoax is ongoing and that MJ is indeed still alive. So, for me, we are still in the Illusion Period.

Edit: I was curious, Souza, why you did not include Blood on the Dance Floor in your considerations? You mentioned HIStory which had both old and new songs. As you know there were remixes on Blood but also some new tracks.

I call bull on this. I agree with people who have said it sounds more like the calling card of Joe or one of Michael's brothers. I find it very unlikely that Michael would have "publicly" denied paternity in his Billie Jean song, if there was even a slight possibility that he was indeed the father. Michael loved kids and he wanted to have his own, so why would he have denied Brandon if he was really his son? I just don't buy it.

A little weird that his name is Brandon though... remember Brandon Jackson, born in 1957, who died shortly after birth?
