It sounds crazy, but Michael Jackson's Coca-Cola addiction may become a building block in Dr. Conrad Murray's legal strategy.
TMZ broke the story that Dr. Murray's defense will be that Michael Jackson caused his own death by pumping a lethal dose of Propofol into his own body during the time the doctor was out of the room.
Sources familiar with the defense strategy tell us one of the missions is to show that Michael Jackson was a demanding celebrity who wanted what he wanted when he wanted it, even if it posed a danger to himself.
One of the ways the defense will prove its point is with the famous soft drink. Jackson consumed massive quantities of Coca-Cola, knowing full well it was laden with caffeine and would make it next to impossible to fall asleep.
Our sources say the defense has numerous examples of situations where Jackson hyped himself up with caffeine from soda and then used drugs -- including Propofol -- as the ultimate sleeping solution.
The upshot -- Jackson was a guy who wanted instant gratification ... so the notion that he would wake up when Dr. Murray was out of the room, become frustrated and self-medicate with Propofol is consistent with his personality.

this is a joke. can't wait for murray to bring in michael's love for candy and lolipops and the massive sugar rush they bring as another part of the "suicide" theory his defense team is creating.
caffeine also makes you crash. it doesn't keep you constantly awake. and to be quite honest ,this whole propofol thing doesn't even make sense to me. you never enter rem sleep with this, you'd never feel like you're rested. there's no point to it.
and please notice how TMZ has magically traveled in time to tomorrow already. i'm living in the past, as it is only 10:02 here in california.

Its ridiculous.. so they are saying Michael drank coca cola and had lights on in his bedroom, with cartoons blaring... therefore he used Propofol in fustration to sleep.
im sorry.. but its impossible to drink that much cola to keep you awake.. i drink it and you would have to drink a LOT to get high on the caffeine in cola.. you would be constantly weeing because you would have to drink that much.
Surely he would be drinking Red Bull and taking Pro-Plus if thats the effect he wanted.
So ridiculous.. so a doctor who is treating MJ for insomnia - had the lights on in the bedroom with cartoon blaring and was yacking away on his mobile.. so MJ had to have Propofol as a last resort as he couldnt sleep due to all the cola he was drinking.

I dont know about anyone else.. but this is the first time i have heard of Michael Jackson drinking lots of pop (soda).
I remember when he did the Pepsi adverts, he didnt want to do them as he didnt drink Pepsi or any other soft fizzy drink and he felt a bit of a fraud advertising something he didnt consume
I thought he was very anti Pepsi and Coca cola?????
And another thought.. why "Coca Cola" and not "Pepsi"??? The two are rivals and MJ is famously tied to Pepsi with his advertisements... is this some kind of message????? If it is, i dont get it but it strikes me as very odd.

I drink coke all the time, throughout the day, late at night -- not once has that ever kept me up. I even tried several times to drink a ton of coke bottles to keep me up while writing papers... FAIL.

This story is absolutely false and IF they try to say this in the court, I hope someone in that courtroom knows better. I drink COFFEE, which has more caffeine in it then coca-cola, ALL day long. Literally. It's just about all I drink. Yes I know it's bad for me but I love my coffee. lol Anyway, my point here is, because of the fact that I drink that much coffee, the caffeine that is in it has NO affect on me. It doesn't wake me up when I get out of bed and it doesn't keep me up all day. When my body gets sleepy, I am able to go to bed and sleep. If Michael drank coca-cola the way that I drink coffee, or even more than I drink coffee, it would eventually have NO affect on him whatsoever as far as keeping him awake. These people need to do their research. :/ But I think these ridiculous stories are being made up for a reason. I don't trust TMZ to the fullest but when it comes to Michael right now, with this case, I do think they know something. Too much points to the fact that they do. So I wouldn't worry too much about what they say. :)

Yeah.. but he was drinking wine, not cola. And that was because he was a nervous flyer.. and the reason he drank it in cola cans was so that his children didnt know he was drinking alcohol. He did that to protect his kids.

same here. i once poured in 2 sachets of instant coffee to help me stay up through the night to finish my project, but i ended up sleeping like a baby. if you have to sleep, no caffeine can help you stay awake. even if i drink a whole can of coke, i still can go to sleep without having to struggle to sleep.

There is a very individual digestion of caffeine.
Some folks will stay up all night when drinking coffee after 5 P.M., some claim it's the best "goodnight goodie" for them to sleep.
One thing I know as to me: when coffee does not help anymore, a coke will do but only for a small amount of time. ;)
I bet this story is now about the "healthy or non-healthy" food in the U.S. and double standards.

It's known he liked to sleep with the full lights on. And who in their right minds wants to use an operating room anesthetic given by IV to get to sleep?
Also, it's possible to develop a cafeine addiction. For instance, Robbie Williams was treated for it in a rehab clinic after his last tour.
We could easily say 'the doctor should have told him how to sleep", i.e. no lights on, no sound, no drinking before going to bed, no cafeine or stressfull activities right before bedtime, but it is well possible that Michael just did whatever he wanted and ignored all these advices. He wanted the lights on, he wanted sound around, he wanted an IV, he wanted propofol. Just like his spending habits. Want to buy a gold plated chair, want Mickey Mouse. Ofcourse it's the duty of a physician to say no, but on the other hand some patients can be very demanding.
It needs to be proven he was not able to administer it himself as the coroner ruled, otherwise I'm concerned this is heading towards reasonable doubt.

I think one slogan from memory from the 1970s is Coca Cola IS IT! is it?

yes. Caffeine makes you very hyper for a while but then you crash like a fucker. i remember when i was addicted to caffeine like coke and ice cappuccinos and stuff it would hype me up for a while then after it wore off it wud make me very sleepy :)

Ok let's look at what I think :mrgreen:
- Michael was supposed to be dehydrated during rehearsals
- BUT he drunk enough coke to be coke addict, which means AT LEAST 2/3 bottles a day, or more...
- MY brother was a coke addict, he had about 1 or 2 bottles a day, he NEVER had sleeping problems...Coke can keep you up if you are not used to it, but it's like any other addiction : if you get some everyday, then it has no effects at all. My father's wife is about 10 or 12 coffees a day, she has no problem to sleep at night. Her body is USED to it.
- I think Michael was more a SUGAR addict. But you know, sugar don't stay in your body. It's only "fast energy" and it doesn't keep you awake all night.
And last but not least. Someone said : why CocaCola and no Pepsi ? I would just answer : HAVE YOU EVER TASTED PEPSI :? :lol:

I drink 2 coffees in the morning to wake up.... and maybe...MAYBE a caffinated beverage throughout the day. I can not drink caffiene after a certain time cus then i wont be able to sleep.
Caffiene has no affect on some people at all, others stay away from it after a cretain time for fear of not being able to sleep.
As far as MJ being a coke addict????? I think not. BUT you never know. I highly HIGHLY doubt that MJ was that naive in thinking he could continue drinking pop, with the lights on and the TV going that he would sleep. That would drive me insane. I have to have complete quiet and dark when sleeping. But then he accidently ODs on Propofol because he got mad that he couldnt sleep?? HELLLOOO??????

OH, you're so right ! How can you get anesthesia in your everyday life, whereas anesthesia is supposed to make you vomit in your sleep and KILL you. When you get to hospital for surgery, you're supposed not to eat or drink 6h before at least...If Michael was used to propofol, it means he never had any food or drink ? Do anyone knows if propofol is the kind of product that needs such behaviour ?

I think it is....they would give you this for total sedation. Heart surgery or any major surgery. And for any surgery where you need to be completely out, then youre not allowed to eat or drink anything........

Also, i thought coke was used to clean the blood off the road after traffic accidents. I remember when i was at school we put a tooth in a glass of coke over night to demonstrate the effect of sugar on the teeth. The next morning the tooth had almost completely dissolved! Anyway back to my point....i think this story is a load of BS. it shows how flimsy Murrays defense is - they are clearly clutching at straws. i will not be shocked if this case gets thrown out of court! :lol: If Michael refused to "follow doctors orders" i.e no caffeinated drinks before bed etc... then Murray should have walked away - his medical skills were being wasted. I dont know about anyone else.. but this is the first time i have heard of Michael Jackson drinking lots of pop (soda).
I remember when he did the Pepsi adverts, he didnt want to do them as he didnt drink Pepsi or any other soft fizzy drink and he felt a bit of a fraud advertising something he didnt consume

On a serious note, I listened to a doctor on Ustream last night who all but stated straight out that if propofol was found in Michael's stomach (as stated in the official autopsy of whomever died that morning), it would have had to be ingested orally. Nothing enters the stomach through intra venous drip. Murray's theory that MJ drank propofol is ludacris. If it was indeed ingested (?) then my theory is that either Conrad fed it to him in pretense of it being something else, or he poured it down MJ's throat while he was under. There is no way that I'll ever believe that MJ came from under, unhooked his tubing, walked across the room, got a bottle of profofol, opened one and drank it, picked up another bottle, got back in the bed, re-started his drip with the other bottle, knocked himself out and went back to his final sleep. This sounds like the rants of a mad man. Murray is losing his grip, but the insanity plea ain't gonna ride. Sorry, think of another lie to go along with the hundreds you've already fabricated Conrad.

i know there is a video out there dated july 8th 2009..the information is by Michael Jackson's nurse Cherilyn lee that he did drink alot of coca cola..the one video i seen was called Michael Jackson nurse 'on the record' by Greta van susteren on fox news...im not sure if there is more then one part to the video or not..all i found when i just went to the fox site was a transcript and that didn't say anything about the coco cola ..but i would bet my life on it that there is that video of Cherilyn lee stating she seen lots of coke in the fridge and him drinking it..
