Title: this is it concert tickets - was it an elaborate scam?
Post by: speeddemon on April 03, 2010, 06:18:17 AM
i tried to get tickets.

i queued online, got through 10 times and every time my connection was mysteriously disconnected at the point of purchase.

i also tried on the phone for 5 hours and got through about 20 times. every time i got a lengthy automated response and no tickets.

a minute or so after all of the tickets had sold out, 100,000s of tickets were listed on reseller sites for 2-3 times the original amount.

there is no way that 100,000s of people could relist their ticktets in a minute. i think the personal limit was 4 tickets per household.

by the way the official reseller was also owned by AEG, i think they were called viago or something similar.

there is no way of denying that the whole ticket sale was rigged and i was pretty annoyed at the time.

i am sure that some tickets were sold to fans, but certainly not the vast majority.

i subscribe to the theory that AEG was trying to make make money by holding ticket sale receipts and gaining interest payments for the 3-4 months before the concerts were to happen (IF THEY WERE TO HAVE GONE AHEAD AT ALL!!!)

add to this the fact that tickets sold via resellers  are not subject to refunds in the case of cancellations.

makes you wonder!

The disconnections were due tue the heavy traffic on the site.

that was a general problem, but i got to the last stages and suddenly the tickets were sold out for that date.

you would imagine that if people managed to get into a payment queue that tickets would be reserved and so that payments could be taken.

I experiences teh same many times that day before getting through. Got to payment and got disconnected over and over again. But I think Ticketmaster was not proberly preparred for the massive interest in bying tickets.

Oh, shamon! There was not TII ticket thread at all in all the site until yesterday that I opened one. We were talking about the existence or not of the ticket, some people provided proof of them... and now we have double post when this first one is still on the recent post list...

Original thread:

Wow guys chill out already !!! She coulod be right it would not be so unheard of some company upselling tickets.  And if she is wrong so what !1 Can't someone talk on the site and give their opinions without
getting told off !!  I agree though maybe she is correct, all of it was for money anyway, and AEG, is surely 1 greedy puppy !!

You, who has multiple accounts. Yeah Game Player, I know your game. Lots of other people do too.

I have disagreed with several posts from the person you are attacking. That doesn't make them inherently invalid and certainly does NOT mean everyone "HATES" them. Get over yourself. Seriously.

Lol I also remember when you had a fit because I used the word fuck. Aren't you a lil hypocritical there buddy?

Ummm.. who cares? Someone can't have multiple accounts? Is it illegal? I don't care if Jacksonology is Rush Limbaugh or Hitler. He's contributed a LOT to this forum.

Actually, yes. A lot of people are getting tired of these trolls, and are just making things harder for *Mo* and Souza. Also, this person has been posting a LOT of unnecessarily rude comments.

Lol I also remember when you had a fit because I used the word fuck. Aren't you a lil hypocritical there buddy?
Ahem.. He doesn't overuse it like you do.

Please lighten up a little people. A lot of people have been making this forum a little unpleasant, but I just want to keep the peace. That's all I want. Please.

Just because MJ_92_Believe doesn't agree with every single theory around (and is willing to speak on it) doesn't mean they're a TROLL. SERIOUSLY.

I also have pretty much completely stopped my "potty mouth" on this forum ever since I was directly asked to by Souza.

I'm done arguing. It's just hilarious to me that someone who calls me rude can go be more rude than I ever was and have someone else get defensive about it. At least I never told anyone to "stay off this site".

I managed it ok - I got tickets to three concerts - I did have a presale code though for one of them.  I didn't have any problems - my whole office got them too without too many problems.  If you live outside the UK, you may have found it more difficult.

Just a general notice about rudeness and stirring things up:

We have been sending out quite a few warnings the last couple of days to members who showed inappropriate behavior towards other members.  We notified them of measure going to be taken if they don't change their behavior, and we ended up having to ban members.  Note that we had a few new members who posted a lot of rude messages in just a couple of hours, it's perfectly clear what they were up to.

I'd like to ask you all to ignore rude behavior and instead of replying to it, notify us through PM.  That way those posters who are out to stir things up won't succeed and peace is kept on the boards.

Remember: The best way to annoy your enemy is to ignore him...

@speeddemon
Sorry.  :(
I guess I'll contribute now. :) Good thread topic.
Here where I live, It's hard to get tickets to local shows!
It's most likely that people were snatching 'em up like hotcakes,
So I imagine the ticket companies couldn't keep up. It happens all the time. :(
If there was any scamming, It was probably the company selling you the tickets.

  Oh I'm an over-emotional Pisces. I act all tough and hate-the-world but I'm really not. Sometimes I can get pretty convincing I guess  ;)

Yes as for contributing to the topic at hand - a couple years ago I tried to get Ozzfest tickets. It was the year they were giving them out free but you still had to go through a ticketing site (LiveNation). They hadn't prepared at all for the horrendous amount of traffic they'd get and the servers went down. Any time they'd come back up they'd go right back down again. It went on like that for a long, long time! And I do imagine the number of Ozzfesters is probably lower than those wanting This Is It tickets for sure!

This same kind of thing even happened to me back in 1996 or 97 with Backstreet Boys tickets

Meh. Lucky. You get a fish, I get a half-man, half-horse archer thingy.

Didn't those Hannah Montana tickets sell out in like 5 minutes?
Nobody likes her! Imagine the feedback TII got!
You probably must have been an internet GOD if you got tickets outside of Europe.

As there was no concerts in view maybe the tickets were sold virtually. Just a few people had tickets to make things credible but the majority are virtual tickets..maybe.

I live in the UK and did get presale code but was unable to get any tickets the legitamate way.

So as last resort got mine on ebay in UK , paid £386 for two £75 tickets, would have been happy with that had the concerts happened, however, didnt get a refund from the seller when things went wrong they said they were waiting for their refund from concert promoter! :(   I guess thats another life lesson ;)       Never mind, lesson learned, if MJ comes back that will be enough for me :D  Its only money after all and other things are more important.

Yeah. I agree. And there have been a LOT of times I have enjoyed your opinions and agreed with you fully.

To be honest I was a little SHOCKED to see you be as rude to someone as you were here. You've pointed out my rudeness more than once around here so I thought I'd return the favor.

Speeddemon didn't post this topic to say I AM RIGHT YOU ARE WRONG. They posted out of curiosity and aren't most things here the product of curiosity? I won't even touch the rudeness to mj_believe_92 (sorry if I got your name wrong, I'm pulling from memory). I doubt you would appreciate someone telling you to basically "f--- off" just because you expressed an opinion. That's all I have to say.

 8-)

Oh sorry you lost your money - that's Ebay for you - the risk you take.  I was lucky and got mine back for all three concerts - I had to wait about 3 weeks.
