Title: We Are The World 2010 For Haiti - AWESOME!
Post by: *Mo* on February 12, 2010, 09:06:53 PM
I just finished listening to the remake of We Are The World.  I'm very impressed.  They did an awesome job with this remake, I really really like it a lot!  They created an up to date version of a great song, which I'm sure will sell great, and that's of course the purpose of this remake.

Here's the video:

I wasn't too crazy about the rap parts, but I understand it's a new generation and feel MJ understands that.

It also would have endorsed her CD a bit more if she was there...
It's cool to see her after so many years.

It was nice to see people like Tony Bennet and Carlos Santana. I like that they haven't faded like some of the older artists.  :(

Call me crazy folks...but I think I hear Michael's voice at 4:19 - not his real true voice, slightly augmented to disguise it a little bit, and then again at 4:38 - same disguise/augmentation, and in the group at 7:28.  I surely do!   :D  :D

I have never even heard of this Justin kid until last week, and I'm certainly not a fan of Hannah Montana.  They're not my style, but I can look past it, because it really seems like the older generation is "passing the torch" to the younger generation to help them recognize the power and responsibility of their celebrity.  I can certainly respect that, and understand why they selected such a wide range of artists and ages.  They will be the one's to carry on the legacy, and continue to make a positive difference in the world in the years to come.

It's for a good cause but they butchered a classic I mean I know nobody can sing like Michael but most of these people are using autotune on a classic song at least sing from your heart, and if you cant sing dont get on the track

Thanks for posting the video. It is a good song. There are great singers on the project. But I personally found it sad that he wasn't really there. Fans get to see and hear all their favorites but no MJ.  It brings back good memories  but then it makes you miss the missing piece. With so much talent there I wish they wrote another song. Really miss u much.

Overall, I thought it was okay.
The thing that kinda killed it for me is that it.. wasn't really, well, timeless.
I feel like it's not going to be famous like the old watw.
I mean, the 1985 equivalent is everyone wearing spandex and leg warmers, followed by a hardcore synthesizer solo.  :|
Maybe It's just that I feel like NOTHING is ever going to be as good as Michael. Never. Ever.

I don't get why some of you are so enthusiastic....
compared with the original version it's  a desperate try...
well meant, badly done.

Of course it is for Haiti....but they could have chosen any song..why this song?

 ok eww I have a way different take on this.sorry but that...hmmm(don't want to call it shit)..well this SONG sucked. When I saw the previews on ET,I was horrifed but it turns out that I was BOTH horrified and BORED out of my mind.COME ON NOW! not everything that is MADE "up to date" during our times has to be crappy compared to the originals, remakes can actually be good sometimes. :roll:Basically,I didn't necessarily feel like it was REVAMPED,just a poorly executed gimmick to get money.Good for Haitu, bad for my ears. :|
I was looking for it to  be as awesome as the classic, but for the song to be something that I can actually enjoy listening to and doesn't represent the shallow aspects of our time. That didn't seem 2010.
I give props to celine dion, jennifer hudson, pink, and Nicole Scherzinger for trying to make it sound acceptable. :D

I think it's beautiful.  ;) My fave part...MJ of course. Lol.
But I have to say that although 4:39 does sound a lot like MJ, it could have been one of the Jonas brothers. Sounded like Nick or Joe.

@MrJosephJ
Yeah, I know what you mean. My brother was sitting beside me while I was watching this for the first time. When the camera went to Lil' Wayne I was like  :o. My brother was like, WHAT?! I watched the vid where he was dissing Michael.   It wasn't just that...I've never been a fan of his. Look at some of his lyrics. And have you guys heard the audio where he says, “I’ll Murder Your Family, Your Child, Your Newborn.”?!?! But I guess people can always change right?

I watched the Olympics & watched the little bit they showed on there & thought it was the whole video, I was horrified because what they showed sounded awful, but I just watched the whole thing & it was better but still not what I thought it would be. & WHY THE HECK was T-Pain, King of Auto tune, given a solo?!! There were plenty of other people with at least some talent in the background, why not give it to them?!! It was okay, but I honestly wasn't very impressed. Jennifer Hudson, Mary J Blige, Celine Dion, Nicole Scherzinger, Josh Grobin, Pink, Barbra Streisand, Usher, Mary Mary, MICHAEL of course, were the only people who could actually sing. Lil Wayne singing (or trying to) a solo? The rap with LL, Snoop, etc sounded out of place but was cool, the one with Kanye flowed better with the song but I can't stand him. T Pain was a MISTAKE to even be in this song, he CAN'T sing! Never did like Miley Cyrus but she did okay, I hate the Jonas Brothers & Justin Bieber's whiney singing. It was a nice try, but didn't do it for me & not because I'm such a fan of the original but because they chose to put certain people in it. I understand it has to be updated for this generation but couldn't they update it with only people who could actually sing? I LOVED that they kept Michael's voice on his part & put him in the vid. I could barely hear Janet though.

EDIT: I just want to say, I do support the cause & appreciate the fact that they chose to redo it to raise money, the lyrics are relevant to what's going on in Haiti. It was okay, it didn't suck, I just didn't love it. It won't be on any playlist of favorite songs for me, sorry. But they did an okay job with who they had & I think it will raise a lot of money for Haiti which is awesome.

Yea this was a cool remix BUT Janet's and Michael's roll was a few seconds long and would have been nice if they both had more in this song.

I was not impressed by a few of the other artist but thats just me lol

It rocked for a good reason.

I'll give them some slack .. it being for such a urgent cause and all. If it wasn't I would've thrown a fit at how crap this version is..Seems like none of these mainstream pop artists have character. Celine and Jennifer tryed to make the best out of it but with that little boy starting out and the auto tuning at the end...they weren't able to save the song. At least we have the brilliant orginal to listen to.

NO NO NO!!! I wasn't going to listen to it but I was too curious... The best part? Michael of course! the 2 seconds of it  :x  Seeing and hearing Michael made me cry - again. Putting him in there for those few seconds just reminds me more of his absence, although Lionel's not singing at least we see him directing but Michael...    Whenever I listen to the original version, the beautiful masterpiece, it goes straight to my heart while this version makes me go STOP, where's Stevie, Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen, Cindy?!! I know it's for a good cause but I can't help this sad feeling it invokes in me  :(  This was the first and only time I'll listen to this version. I want you Michael and ONLY you! The absence of your magical presence is making my heart ache terribly

Thanks Mo for posting this.

This remake is fabulous with the voices of everyone so perfectly placed and talent so excellently executed!!!

I ESPECIALLY LOVE THE RAP SECTION which brings this song up to date to include all facets of musicians.  Glad to see Michael's real brothers getting their fair place for the world to appreciate and hear.  Bravo !

All I hope is that the money goes to Haiti and not to bad people you know.. But I don't see any changes yet. In Holland we collected like 80 million euros  for haiti. And other countries to but I don't see any difference. Maybe there were difference, but they have to show it so we know the money goes to haiti :)

I LOVED IT TOO. i THINK MJ WAS TRYING TO MAKE THE CROSS OVER TO SOME OF THE NEW MUSIC BY DOING THE REMIXES WITH THE RAP ARTISTS. HE HAS GREAT RESPECT FOR THEM TOO. I JUST THINK THIS NEW MIX IS AWESOME AND A STEP UP FOR ALOT OF ARTISTS TO STAND TOGETHER AND DO THIS AS A GROUP. KUDOS TO THEM  8-)  :)  8-)  :)

I love the new version although i still love the old one the most.

I like the idea that the have mixed almost every artist of a different music genre,i like all music but im a big fan of hiphop, r&b, soul stuff like that.

BTW sorry for saying but wyclef is messing up that song   JMO :P

ohw and i already said i hiphop and stuff but the little rap piece doesnt really fit the song IMO but the idea of it all mixed togheter is great ;)

I'm not bashing anyone for their own personal opinion, however can I ask what it is about the rap section you don't think fits ???  PLEASE please enlighten me on that.

If opera was included would that be out of place ?

I know Michael is watching us.  I believe Michael is very much alive.  I guessing that Michael would be asking you the same questions I am.  I don't have the nerve to question what Michael's reasons are for doing anything.

In fact, I am not a die hard fan of rap in general.  The repetitive beat drives me nuts, but this piece of rap was very well constructed and I could understand each and every word being sang.  In view of the lifestyle of Haiti and the fact that they themselves may be fans of rap and that the Earthquake being it was in Haiti, may have been what pushed the remake of "We Are The World" which IMO most certainly should have included any new section of musical representation to be included.

Have I made myself clear????

LOVE is LOVE, LOVE is not ripping apart something that was made in the name of LOVE.
Get it?  I say this in the most loving way.

You are clear;):P and i get your point but,
the rap part is uhm IMO a little to rough for the song if it would be i little more soft and relaxed it would be fitting the song IMO dont get me wrong for that i love the rap part i only think its a little to rough for the song that's all(the beat is HOT:P), the part of William and kanye imo just fits the song more than that other part ;) , do you understand what i try to say?? ;)( my english isnt that good:P)
But i understand what you are saying and the the message of the song ;)  i mean who would thought to see snoop dogg, lil wyane, ll cool j, busta, dre etc in a song with mary j blige, enrique iglesias, pink, jennifer hudson, celine dione, toni baxton and you name it. That is just BEuatiful:P

BTW Janet i cant say it often enough but G DAMN she looks so much like your beautifull brother ;)

It's for a good cause but they butchered a classic I mean I know nobody can sing like Michael but most of these people are using autotune on a classic song at least sing from your heart, and if you cant sing dont get on the track
True point.

Janet looked sad & a little rough, but I do agree in split screen she & michael looked just alike!  :D

I enjoyed this updated version. I was singing along quite happily until the rap. I don't do rapping. I realize it has to have a wide appeal but the rapping is very jarring. I liked the ending with "Haiti" being pronounced properly.

Ok,
For us here he is just ridiculous, as the rest of his brothers. A posh boy with a little brain.
A rich kid who had as many chances as he want to achieve nothing. While many capable people are big artists and never had those chances.
But I don´t want to give more details as I don´t want to insult anyone.
To me he is funny. Hot? weeee! Noooo!   Never even saw him that way.
But I respect your opinion. And it´s not a big deal...
