Playboy’s Hugh Hefner Not Alone; Here Are Others ...

Playboy kingpin Hugh Hefner, founder and publisher of America’s Playboy magazine, is the latest celebrity to fall victim to internet death hoax.

Celebrity death hoaxes are nothing new, but when the false death news of Hugh Hefner began to spread after a hack of his Twitter account, many panicked as the iconic man behind Playboy magazine is 85.

However, the famed bachelor took to social networking site Twitter to downplay his death rumors and said he is still alive and in good health.

"The rumors of my death are, as Mark Twain observed in a similar situation, greatly exaggerated. I'm very much alive and kicking," Hefner tweeted, responding to the hoax. "I'm lying in bed next to Shera Bechard with a big smile on my face, reading tweets about my unexpected demise. I'm happy to see how many people are pleased that I'm not dead."

Hefner is now 85-years-old. He suffered from a mild stroke when he was 59 and has since calmed the ruckus lifestyle for which he is still wildly famous with men around the world. The quintessential playboy has dated up to seven women at once.

Hefner isn't the first celebrity to fall victim to a Twitter hoax. Earlier this year rumors spread that comedy star Jim Carrey had died during a snowboarding accident. The victims list includes Justin Bieber, Wesley Snipes, Britney Spears, Jackie Chan, Charlie Sheen, Tom Cruise and many more.

Christian Slater is another celebrity to have his death wrongly reported on Twitter.

Here is the list of ten celebrities who falsely made it to heaven.

Rumors surrounding the death of Hugh Hefner have been confirmed false by the Playboy founder himself via Twitter.

Tom Hanks was not even in New Zealand when a fake news site said he had been killed after falling 60 feet from the country's Kauri Cliffs.

Tom Cruise reportedly met his death after diving from the exact same cliffs that Tom Hanks fell from two years before. Just like Hanks, Cruise was nowhere near New Zealand at the time.

Will Smith is another victim of a nasty rumor. FakeAWish.com reported that Smith fell to his death from a cliff in New Zealand. The news started circulating Twitter with people repeating the news. Thankfully, this is just a rumor as Smith is alive and well.

On the same day as Michael Jackson died, a hacker posted on Britney Spears’ Twitter, "Britney has passed today. It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come." Ellen Degeneres and P.Diddy were also attacked by the same hacker that day.

Pronounced dead twice in one day, a viral tweet spread around that Justin Bieber was shot by a publicist and then killed in a car accident back in June. He tweeted, “Wait … turns out I’m alive.”

During her stay in the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility, it was reported that Paris Hilton was dead, either from suicide or being stabbed seven times, neither of which were true.

Again, Twitter users are the culprit for the latest scandal in fake Hollywood deaths, Wesley Snipes, who is said earlier this week to have been killed in a fight. The actor is alive in prison after being charged for defrauding the U.S. in 2006.

Earlier this year, the martial arts expert was reported on suffering a fatal heart attack due to the overwhelming stress of promoting Kung Fu Panda 2. We could see how a fluffy CGI panda could be quite stressful, but Jackie Chan debunked this rumor by snapping a shot of himself with Yuji Kumamaru, Consul-General of Japan.

Pranksters used Twitter to spread a rumor that George Clooney died in a plane crash over the Rockies in 2009.

Russell Crowe is another victim of false Internet death reports. The actor was said to have suffered a fatal fall while filming in a remote location. Specifically, in the Hahnenkamm mountains of Austria.
