Michael Jackson tribute concert headliners announcement delayed

The announcement of the line-up for the Michael Jackson tribute show planned for Cardiff has been delayed.

Organisers Global Live Events were due to make an announcement at 6pm this evening, but the press conference has now been cancelled.

A statement on the official Michael Forever – The Tribute Concert Facebook page: “We will wait with the announcement until we can name the new headline act.”

Global Live Events, meanwhile, have tried to appease fans after uproar over their ticket sales policy.

The company claims the ticketing system is designed to deter touts from hiking up ticket prices to rip off fans – even though it will still result in buyers spending extra.

“If more people want tickets than are available the price goes up,” a new frequently asked questions section of the official Facebook page explains.

“With our system the initial demand is moderated by the charity pledges.

“We don’t get the extra money – the charities do. So all the profit that a tout would usually take has already been given to the charities.

“Global Live Events only ever gets the face value of the tickets,” it says on the site.

The firm tries to explain away the decision to hold the show in the midst of the trial of Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray – charged with the star’s manslaughter – which enraged his singing brothers, Jermaine and Randy.

“We have been planning this concert for quite a while, and the trial dates kept moving,” the site says.

“Unless the trial dates change again the concert will take place a month into the progress of the trial.

“We believe that a concert honouring Michael’s music will remind the world of his genius, and the great loss the world of music has suffered by his untimely death. But the concert and the trial of the doctor have no bearing on each other.”

The firm said of the Jackson family rift: “The Jacksons are a large family with differing views and opinions on how to treat the memory of Michael.

“We believe, and the vast majority of the family believe, that the Michael Forever tribute concert, which will be about Michael’s music, is the best way to do this.

Does anybody else find this suspicious? I mean, yeah, big surprise that its delayed, but for what reason? I mean, is it really hard to hold a press conference to tell the public who will performing at MJ's tribute show? Unless, of course, they don't want to let the world know just yet, in case there's someone really special performing (wink wink, nudge nudge)

But that's just what I think. I may be wrong, I may be right. I never imagined that Michael would come back like that, but he is full of surprises. Just think about it. It all seems suspicious to me.

I think the most likely senario is that they haven't actually got any 'mega stars' to agree to doing it yet.

Who would want to be associated with this dubious venture? ???/

Which is exactly why it will be canceled (scenario #1).

or it is not canceled and this really is Michael's BAM platform (wild unlikely scenario #2).

Unlikely as scenario #2 is, as Cardiff is one of the easiest arenas for me to travel to, it is still tempting for me to consider trying for tickets LOL

Doesn't Michael live for Controversy??? as per Ted Reilly.... They cannot make their minds up where they had to bury Michael, they cannot make their minds to do the concerts. What does it take to agree on something..

I think I will try to get a ticket. I tried to get tickets for the Vienna Tribute and I remember I wasn't able to get them. Not that I think I will be able to go (that is if it even is going to take place), but I'm curious enough to try. Only 40 minutes left. Funny how they chose 7 pm UTC as a starting time.

I'd be facinated to know which artists they have approached for this concert.

Will they go for young, trendy artists (Lady GaGa etc.) or more old school from Michael's generation?

I really need to know before I decide to buy tickets!

I don't normally like concerts where there are loads of acts as I have quite narrow tastes in music. lolol/

This is embarassing. Have they EVER followed through on at least ONE of these planned (unplanned) tributes? I’m beginning to believe they are gluttons for punishment and booooooooooooooos lolol/ Are they really that hard up for 10… 15… 20 minutes of fame, at any cost? So sad. They have cried wolf one time too may for my taste. I’ll never take their “tribute concerts”seriousy anymore. Well in actuality I didn’t take this one seriously so, well, damn who knows  What the hell lolol/

No acts set for Michael Jackson tribute at ticket sales deadline

A planned Michael Jackson tribute concert, supported by the late pop star's mother and four siblings, was in disarray Thursday amid family squabbling and the apparent failure of promoters to sign any big-name acts so far.

Tickets for the show, scheduled for Cardiff, Wales, in October, were to go on sale Thursday, but instead of providing a link for purchases the promoter's website asked fans to "Please Standby for further announcements."

The head of the British company promoting the concert promised last week it would "feature the world's most amazing music performers." The roster would be revealed online one act at a time over the next 10 days weeks, Global Live Events CEO Chris Hunt told reporters at a July 25 news conference.

"Everybody's in the midst of signing contracts so nothing can be announced until that happens," Juliette Harris, spokeswoman for Global Live Events, told CNN late Tuesday. She suggested an announcement would come Wednesday.

By Thursday, still no acts had been announced.

The problems started soon after brothers Marlon, Tito and Jackie, sister La Toya and family matriarch Katherine Jackson attended the "Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert" announcement at the Beverly Hills Hotel on July 25.

La Toya Jackson said it was "something that's spectacular" while the Jacksons' mother called it "a show fit for a king."

"If my son were here today, he would feel the same way," Katherine Jackson said.

"I know my brother would be very, very proud to see all the artists that he admired and respected so much coming together for this event," Tito Jackson said.

But an hour later, Jermaine and Randy Jackson, the only brothers not at the news conference, issued a sharply worded statement that reflected a deep division within the Jackson family over the show.

"We want to make clear that this does not reflect the position of the entire family," the two brothers said in a joint statement.

"While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael's death."

While Hunt had hinted it could include a Jackson brothers reunion, the statement from Jermaine and Randy Jackson made it clear that would not happen.

"In light of this, we feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event and its promoter, Global Live," Randy and Jermaine Jackson said.

Their statement said the idea of the October concert was presented to the entire family in April "as an idea already in its advanced stages." The decision to go ahead with it "disrespects opinions and wishes expressed in the strongest terms" by some members of the Jackson family, they said.

The Michael Jackson Fan Club agreed with the two brothers, issuing a similar statement.

"We share their concerns that this concert is taking place at a most inappropriate time when everyone's care and attention should be focused on the matter of justice. We believe that, as stated by Jermaine and Randy, the most important tribute we can give to Michael Jackson at this time is to seek justice in his name."

Jackson fans posted messages on the concert's Facebook page questioning ticket prices and the process for buying them.

Fans must place bids for a chance to buy a ticket. The higher their pledge to a charity, the better their chances of getting a good seat.

"The ticket system is so bad!! the higher you bid the better seats you get?? not every Michael fan is rich!!!" one fan posted on the "Michael Forever Tribute" Facebook page Thursday.

After several days of such negative posts, a link to the Facebook page was removed from the concert's website.

The October 8 show, in the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, which seats 75,000 people, would be at least four hours long, Hunt said.

In addition to the other problems surrounding the event, a spokesman for Michael Jackson's estate said last week that the promoters never sought or obtained permission from the estate's executors to use late pop singer's name or image.

"The estate has not been contacted and is not involved with Global Live Events in the UK tribute concert announced today," spokesman Jim Bates told CNN.

PT Barnum's definition of a humbug, and it's contrast to that of a swindler:

Quote
Two actors appear as stars at two rival theatres. They are equally talented, equally pleasing. One advertises himself simply as a tragedian, under his proper name - the other boasts that he is a prince, and wears decorations presented by all the potentates of the world, including the "King of the Cannibal Islands." He is correctly set down as a "humbug," while this term is never applied to the other actor.
****
Why? Not because he cheats or imposes upon the public, for he does not, but because, as generally understood, "humbug" consists in putting on glittering appearances - outside show - novel expedients, by which to suddenly arrest public attention, and attract the public eye and ear.

An honest man who arrests public attention will be called a "humbug,"' but he is not a swindler or an impostor. If, however, after attracting crowds of customers by his unique displays, a man foolishly fails to give them a full equivalent for their money, they never patronize him a second time, but they very properly denounce him as a swindler, a cheat, an impostor; they do not, however, call him a "humbug." He fails, not because he advertises his wares in an outre manner, but because, after attracting crowds of patrons, he stupidly and wickedly cheats them.

P.T. Well, atleast the HOAX is picking back up again. Its been so slow lately! We need this and oh how predictable it is so far. Its hard to believe that still NO announcements for ANY performances yet. The family says 'fit for a KING' and 'the WORLD'S BEST performers'. A little too soon to make such bold statements... Unless MJ is there himself, it won't be the World's BEST!

Well...somebody has released information on ONE act...

Jackson tribute concert organisers address line-up announcement delay

POP singer Craig David last night was the first to claim he will be appearing at the Michael Forever tribute concert.

He is the only act known to be playing the show.

A statement on his website said: “Craig is honoured to announce he will be performing alongside some incredible artists at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert.”

Organisers of the Michael Jackson tribute concert have sought to explain the delay in announcing the line-up for the show and why fans have been unable to register for tickets.

Announcements about the line-up for Michael Forever – The Tribute Concert were meant to be made by organisers Global Live Events on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Ticket registration for the show, at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on October 8, was meant to open at 8pm on Thursday, but fans were left with a message stating “please standby for further announcements”. Yesterday, a Global Live Events statement said it was mindful of fans’ expectations.

Global Live Events’ chairman Chris Hunt said: “We will be announcing an incredible line-up very soon. The registration period was put on hold because we want people to know who they are registering to see.”

Nothing like that on Craig's website or his Twitter. So more BS. Funny how Craig's big hit back around 2000-2001 was called "7 days".

If his one big hit 10 years ago was titled "7 Days" then this is clearly just one more clue.

Betcha 5 bucks that next this guy will release a statement saying he was never contacted to perform.

You haven't? He was pretty popular here 10 years ago. Maybe because he's from the UK, I never followed the US charts. Here's 7 days, which is always the first song that pops into mind when I think of Craig David:

I do know Craig David, especially because of this song featuring Sting: "Rise and Fall"

Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over,
And it seems as though the writings on the wall,
Superstar you finally made it,
But once your picture becomes tainted,
It's what they call,
The rise and fall [x2]

I always said that I was gonna make it,
Now it's plain for everyone to see,
But this game I'm in don't take no prisoners,
Just casualties,
I know that everything is gonna change,
Even the friends I knew before may go,
But this dream is the life I've been searching for,
Started believing that I was the greatest,
My life was never gonna be the same,
Cause with the money came a different status,
That's when things change,
Now I'm too concerned with all the things I own,
Blinded by all the pretty girls I see,
I'm beginning to lose my integrity

Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over,
And it seems as though the writings on the wall,
Superstar you finally made it,
But once your picture becomes tainted,
It's what they call,
The rise and fall

I never used to be a troublemaker,
Now I don't even wanna please the fans,
No autographs,
No interviews,
No pictures,
Endless demands,
Give into vices that was clearly wrong,
The type that seems to make me feel so right,
But some things you may find can take over your life,
Burnt all my bridges now I've run out of places,
And there's nowhere left for me to turn,
Been caught in comprimising situations,
I should have learnt,
From all those times I didn't walk away,
When I knew that it was best to go,
Is it too late to show you the shape of my heart,

Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over,
And it seems as though the writings on the wall,
Superstar you finally made it,
But once your picture becomes tainted,
It's what they call,
The rise and fall

Now I know,
I made mistakes,
Think I don't care,
But you don't realise what this means to me,
So let me have,
Just one more chance,
I'm not the man I used to be,
Used to beeeeeeeeeee

Sometimes in life you feel the fight is over,
And it seems as though the writings on the wall,
Superstar you finally made it,
But once your picture becomes tainted,
It's what they call,
The rise and fall [x4]

About the Humbug bar thing, I'm not sure about something.
So the address of the company Global Live is the same as the Humbug bar in UK, the same street. But can't be many things (bars, libraries, houses, companies, etc.) on the same street? It's unclear to me as here in my country the addresses look different. Maybe it sounds as an idiot question, but I'm really wondering if the fact that Humbug bar appears on the same street, doesn't mean Humbug bar is the ONLY thing on that street. How do we know if it's absolutely the same address as Global Live?

Anna, a street address is unique to each building.

Yes, I know. Same here and everywhere, so that's what I mean. The number.

I'm not familiar with UK or US addresses, that's why I prefered to ask. So 89 is the number of the specific building or whatever

Michael Jackson tribute concert ticket sales suspended

A tribute concert for Michael Jackson scheduled for fall in Wales appears to be in trouble. Tickets for the show were supposed to go on sale Thursday but have now been suspended.

A link on the promoter's website tells fans to "standby for further announcements."

Promoters had promised the concert would feature some of the most prominent performers in the world. So far though, no acts have been announced.

There are also reports of squabbling among the Jackson family.

The show is supposed to take place Oct. 8.

Supposed to take place. YEP.

I'm thinking that it could be one huge building with one number, yet many floors and companies.
Is anyone good with doing google streetview to look at the building?

Michael Jackson tribute turning into a fiasco

Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert is turning into a fiasco with no acts announced, family squabbles, estate representatives announcing they have not given approval, issues with pricing tickets, sales put on hold, and serious concerns by many on the timing of this event considering it occurs during the manslaughter trial that many feel is the only way to get justice in the death of Jackson.

The acts signed up for the recently announced Michael Jackson tribute concert have yet to be announced causing the company that is organizing the event to put purchasing on hold.

This is the second tribute concert organized by Michael’s family. Now with so many issues again plaguing this event, one must ask…is this one doomed like the last one organized by Jermaine Jackson following Michael’s death, why would such a large scale event not be organized and controlled by his estate with family involvement, and who really considered what many state is a serious misjudgement re: timing.

Now this tribute concert was announced and apparently supported by the late pop star’s mother and four siblings. They told the world during a press conference that “an incredible line-up very soon” that will include “some of the greatest names in music.”

Now, promoters said performers would be announced soon but with that list of names still not public, registration for the Cardiff, Wales concert is on hold.

“The registration period was put on hold because we want people to know who they are registering to see,” Chris Hunt, the head of the British company promoting the concert.

The plan had been to announce the acts over a 10-day period following the July 25 news conference in which Jackson brothers Marlon, Tito and Jackie, sister La Toya and family matriarch Katherine Jackson. Now, that plan seems to have fallen apart.

Global Live Events told fans Friday the process would get on track.

“Between now and October we will be continuing to add names to the line-up so more announcements will follow,” Hunt said. “Fans of Michael’s music will get the concert they’ve been waiting for.”

“Some of the greatest names in music are already signed, and more are trying to shuffle other commitments to come on board,” a statement posted Friday on the concert website said.

Family Friction

During the press conference, Jackson family members told the world the merits of this tribute. La Toya Jackson said it was “something that’s spectacular” while the Jacksons’ mother called it “a show fit for a king.” “If my son were here today, he would feel the same way,” Katherine Jackson said.

“I know my brother would be very, very proud to see all the artists that he admired and respected so much coming together for this event,” Tito Jackson said.

The world, however, soon found that 2 of the brothers did not agree with this event, its handling or its timing. Jermaine and Randy Jackson, both not at the news conference issued a public statement on Twitter.

“We want to make clear that this does not reflect the position of the entire family,” the two brothers said in a joint statement.

“While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death.”

Remember, the involuntary manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson’s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, is to begin in September and is expected to continue into October.

“In light of this, we feel it is inappropriate to be involved with such an ill-timed event and its promoter, Global Live,” Randy and Jermaine Jackson said. Their statement said the idea of the October concert was presented to the entire family in April “as an idea already in its advanced stages.” The decision to go ahead with it “disrespects opinions and wishes expressed in the strongest terms” by some members of the Jackson family, they said.

Timing of Event

Fans and sites (including ours) have stated that the timing of this event seems inappropriate.

Ticket Pricing Issues

Jackson fans posted messages on the concert’s Facebook page questioning ticket prices and the process for buying them.

The ticketing system requires fans to place bids to a charity having chances improved for good seats depending on the amount bid. Fans noted on the concert site’s Facebook page that not all fans are rich and that such pricing was unfair.

Now, we must ask the obvious. What were those involved in this event thinking with timing, ticket sale methods, lack of permission re: MJ image etc. when they organized this event.

Michael himself was an absolute perfectionist when organizing any event or concert. He was truly a master at publicity. It has been reported throughout the media MJ himself was extremely and visibly upset with the last concert he participated in with his family. The management handling (under King’s direction), ticket sales, etc. led him to publicly announce he would not be touring with family again.

So now with what has been reported as Michael’s frustration having his family promote anything related to him and how this event is being promoted and organized, do you believe that such a tribute should be organized and promoted by maybe those who really know the business such as estate members?

Let us know what you think.

What we think? This was never going to happen and it is not going to happen. lolol/

I went on Google earth and this is the building. But I cannot see the Humbug bar. I went around and there are many bars but not Humbug. I don't get it.

Also, it seems a area of not so rich people. The buildings look like poor, very simple

I went on the bar's site and I saw photos. So yes, it's that one with purple.

The company was a part of production and distribution Group DCD Media since its acquisition by the Group in 2000 until 2008, when Chris Hunt took Iambic back into private ownership

Nothing like that on Craig's website or his Twitter. So more BS. Funny how Craig's big hit back around 2000-2001 was called "7 days".

LOL...I noticed those things too when I checked it out this morning. There is a mention on the Forum of his website that someone stated they had gotten the statement from his Twitter but I checked it and found nothing as well. I did think it comical that the 3 videos that came up for Craig David during a normal Google search were...7 Days...Walking Away & Rendezvous

Jackson tribute concert organisers address line-up announcement delay
by Julia McWatt, Western Mail
Aug 6 2011

I have no idea. Sometimes I suspect that the tribute is already cancelled and that this is the reason he deleted it. We'll have to wait and see - I wouldn't be surprised if there is an announcement soon by the family or by Global Live Events saying there will be no family tribute.

****
An honest man who arrests public attention will be called a "humbug,"' but he is not a swindler or an impostor. If, however, after attracting crowds of customers by his unique displays, a man foolishly fails to give them a full equivalent for their money, they never patronize him a second time, but they very properly denounce him as a swindler, a cheat, an impostor; they do not, however, call him a "humbug." He fails, not because he advertises his wares in an outre manner, but because, after attracting crowds of patrons, he stupidly and wickedly cheats them.

P.T. Barnum--"Humbugs of the World"

also according to Webster synonym HUMBUG=
an imitation that is passed off as genuine <tests showed that the “old” map of America was a cleverly made humbug>
Synonyms counterfeit, forgery, hoax, humbug, phony (also phoney), sham
Related Words copycat, knockoff; copy, facsimile, replica, reproduction; dummy, mock-up; fraud, gaff, imposture, spoof, swindle; simulation, synthetic; bastard, brummagem, duffer, shoddy

I am honoured to announce I will be performing alongside some of the world's greatest artists at the MIchael Jackson Tribute Concert....!!

You could also read it in other forums like mjjcommunity and others. The tweets were there. Obviously he deleted them in the meantime.

This makes it more suspicious to me. If the tribute was going to happen for real, Craig wouldn't delete his tweets. Thank you for the info Dancer.

Thank you Grace for your hard work! What a web, and then how does it all relate with the public taking down of Murdock--perhaps that was even a show also. Who knows what is going on on these levels, what to believe and what not in the media. And Michael is definately in there somewhere, but is he powerful or weak person needing their hand up in a comeback.

Perhaps we were wrong about "that guy" being MJ, but rather it was Murdock. On GC's twitter I can't seem to go back that far to see the context.

Grace what a great find! This whole hoax has been so amazing to me. You really know how to connect the dots! I have a feeling this concert will be cancelled and the excuse will be that the estate stepped in and closed them down due to legal reasons. Take care, Love to All :)

That’s exactly what I think is going to happen.

And as for someone elses’ statement re: how long is the family going to allow Michael to make them look like total idiots. Until the hoax is done, lol. They probably feel they owe him what ever it takes for the many fuck ups they made in Michael’s life along the way. Pay it forward no matter how it looks to other people.

The press have made the Jackson's look like idiots for a long time now. I'm sure they would all participate happily in punking the media for payback.

If you live that life, where your every moment is up for public scrutiny, via a rabid press, it's probably very liberating to take the bull by the horns and "give 'em something to talk about".

Remember, "it'll all come out".

What a web, and then how does it all relate with the public taking down of Murdock--perhaps that was even a show also.

There is no taking down visible yet to me. Murdoch is scratched only.
However, while he tried to get his sons into News Corp, (James having fled to Australia), his daughter Elisabeth recently announced she will not get involved deeper in the company for now. She was the only one to not have been labelled belonging to the responsible circle for NotW. She was labelled being mentally ill instead. Well, we know how that works. Murdoch will lose his empire because his family is divided. He's the motor. As soon as he's gone, the leeches will feed in. It happened to others, his half time is overdue.

Let's not forget about other important guests and the less obvious, being out of spotlight.
Whenever our attention is getting focused, we tend to forget the rest of the stage.
It's those invisible in the dark who make the show go on.
Murdoch is a phased-out model. More interesting: who's getting pace right now?
