Title: Wacky Connection but no shit: non court related
Post by: bec on January 05, 2011, 10:40:18 PM
Hi. I have this little video game addiction called Dead Rising. Two years ago, in my pre-hoax life, I played this game to death for an entire vacation, and months of weekend marathon sessions, we are talking 14hrs a day no pause no save, no get an achievement that requires you play straight through, no saves, one life, sudden death, constantly depleting health you must replenish with limited health resources, blah blah gamer speak etc...

Anyway, point is, the backround music in this game, one of the tracks, which I would know on name your tune in two notes, anywhere, is *identical* to the opening of Keep Your Head Up. I swear. It's so wacky but, here, listen to :30 and :40 on this original soundtrack:
[youtube:24mr9nnr]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VM7NM-kvCRI[/youtube:24mr9nnr]

and compare it to Keep Your Head Up :15-:25

lol

For those who don't know, Dead Rising is a game where you're trapped in a shopping mall and you have to use everyday objects as weapons to fight off giant hordes of the living dead (zombies). The protagonist (hero) of the game is a photo journalist determined to report the story (the truth) despite the government's attempts to cover up the incident (zombie outbreak). The entire point of the game is to escape the mall and the living dead hordes so you can break the news to the world.

Yeah, wacky, totally, I know, I need my tinfoil hat. I find this quite amusing because the melody in Keep Your Head Up's opening is so clearly a copy of Mall Music #6. Dead Rising came out in 2005 I believe, and if I do say so myself, it is totally MJs kind of game. Gore, horror, and humor mixed up in a super fantastic story about your goal to report the truth!

But what made really me lol is stumbling on track 7 of the Dead Rising Official Soundtrack: Justified. Take a listen and read the lyrics and tell me what this has to do with killing zombies and reporting the truth?:

Quote
You corner me to say
Of how can you live that way
You think I'm wrong with my pride
But let me tell you I am justified

Look to my left and you'll see where I tried
Look to my right to see the crimes
Look through my past and you'll see
All the lies I've lied
And why I'm justified
Justified
Justified
And why I'm justified

The light passes me by
I tried to wash myself clean
My soul has since then died
But let me tell you I am doing fine

Look to my left and you'll see where I tried
Look to my right to see the crimes
Look through my past and you'll see
All the lies I've lied
And why I'm justified
Justified
Justified
And why I'm justified

Look in my eyes...
Look in my past...

Look to my left and you'll see where I tried
Look to my right to see the crimes
Look through my past and you'll see
All the lies I've lied
And why I'm justified
Justified
Justified
And why I'm justified

Look in my eyes, you'll see my life of crime
Look in my past and you'll see, all the lies, all the lies, all the lies
Are justified

Song seemed super out of place when I beat that game and it started playing (it's the end credits when you beat the whole game). But whatever, video games aren't always known for the most relevant music. For example you kill thousands of zombies in the game to that mall music MJ ripped off playing in the backround.

It's super funny though, and for the 3rd wacky connection trail of the night, this screen shot from when I searched the text lyrics to Justified:

I know it's crazy, but come on, that's a funny set of coincidences you have to admit

Ps. the much awaited, highly anticipated, and much delayed sequel to this game, Dead Rising 2, was released this past September, and is set in Las Vegas inside a giant casino complex. lol.

There's been lots of discussion on MJisms in movies, reality shows on TV, other musicians, but not too much on games. Why not MJisms there too? Influence far-flung, "take-over". The lyrics about so much lying and justified really make me think. In the end BAM will we all agree that lying was justified when he tells us the why?

Agreed, Wacky Connection? or planned connection, nothing surprises me with Michael, just love the way his mind works.  Who is the game made by?

LOL, another song where we hear 'music from the past'. I wonder if that's the case on every song. I do think the saxophone at the start of Behind the mask sounds familiar too. There is more to that album, I just haven't figured out what it is yet...

You mean other than the Greg Phillinganes 1984's version who is a cover of the 1979's version by Yellow Magic Orchestra?

But you know who Greg Phillinganes is right?
Michael wrote part of the lyrics.

Michael did a lot of things ....I doubt that we will ever know all of them because they would be uncredited due to contract obligations.
