Thanks, Mo!  It seems to me that Prince was actually better than MJ at controlling the media (keeping it at bay)... I hope it's not taboo to say it here.  The thing is, if one is amazing enough as an artist I don't think they need any personal drama to sell albums or have people interested in them or their message - and MJ was a genius artist!  And the truth is, outside the bubble of real fans & hoax investigators there are many, many people who stopped paying attention to Jackson and buying his music because of the personal drama... We can't pretend his image or reputation didn't suffer!  I myself didn't pay much attention to Jackson for a LONG time... It's something I regret greatly in retrospect.  I would bet that other people on this forum could say the same thing, that they didn't really pay attention for a while... Be honest.

People talk so much about Jackson being a "master" at manipulating the media... How, when the media destroyed him and his reputation?  I think Prince, Janet Jackson, Diana Ross have all been better than MJ.  They've kept a nice image and have had (and continue to have) solid and lengthy careers.  I'm not sure what exactly happened for the media to go after Michael with a vengeance, but they certainly did.  Now it could just be a conspiracy from high up, but that would just go to show that MJ did not, and could not, control the media.

Imagine, for a moment, that people would only talk about Michael's music and the lyrics and the music videos and the messages in his body of work and the messages in his interviews and speeches... No plastic surgeries, no "bizarre" stuff, no Elephant Man, no baby dangling... No caveats and no "buts".  No "yeah, he was a good entertainer, BUT"... Now wouldn't that be beautiful?  And don't you think that's what Michael would WANT?

I hope I'm not alone in my opinion that something went wrong for Michael... sadly.

That muppet show video is hylarious

Prince and Michael are masters in their styles and both are somehow connected by James Brown.

I went to a Prince concert in 1998 but could not enter the MJ concert in 1988 but I saw him performing in the big screen. Both artists kept my attention since I was a child, one with Purple Rain and the other with Thriller.

The last video that @Mo posted ends with "both are Jehovas W". Should we make something about of that?

I only heard of Prince's conversion to JW in 2010 (there are a few articles on this, and an interview with Prince), but apparently he converted in 2001:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_(musician (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_(musician))

MJ was raised as a JW, and officially left that faith long before Prince converted to it.

I think that Prince and MJ were friendly rivals... They respected each other, but did compete and try to outdo each other.  ;)
Example:
MJ wrote a poem called "Planet Earth" a long time ago.
In 1995 Michael released "Earth Song" (on the HIStory album).
Prince's 25th album (2007) is called "Planet Earth" and a song on it has the same name.
Also in 2007 Prince had "The Earth Tour" in London (21 concerts).
In March 2009 MJ announced his concerts in London...

@truthprevails
I am honest in saying, I did not pay much attention to MJ for quite some years. I cannot say I regret it, as my life path just did go another way and that is as it is, but I am very happy and even thrilled my life took a turn to remind me of my love for Michael. I remember when I was 12 I promised myself, Michael would always be in my heart. That hasn't changed even during the years I led my life pretty much MJ-less  :)  He's ALWAYS been somehow present in the back of my mind. He will ALWAYS be in my heart and THAT will never change.

Interesting to watch! Prince seemed to take dancing style from James Browne too. Great splits! Michael didn't go for those, but more the foot work. The muppets show with Prince was very sweet.
