Audio & Video Of Prince’s “Welcome 2 America” Press Confusion…Er Conference

So, Prince held a press conference in New York City earlier this evening. A Rolling Stone journalist had it spot on when he said Prince would be holding a mysterious press conference….because people don’t really know what he announced.
A full on U.S. tour (Major rumor for a couple of months now) or a residency at the Apollo Theatre in New York.
It is called “Welcome To America” and usually, when tourists first travel to America, the first place they either visit or travel is New York. So….it would make more sense that a residency in New York is happening. Also, the skyscrapers in some of the posters are of a New York Skyline. Plus, would you really call a tour “Welcome To America?”
“Maceo Parker. Esperanza Spaulding. Sheila E, Larry Graham, Mint Condition, Sinbad, Cassandra Wilson. Dr. Funkenberry doing the chicken dance. I am master of ceremonies. Welcome to America.”

Also, Prince, I Love you man. I may not look you in the eye when we are in the same room and have my date talk to you instead of me, but it is all about respect. Sounds like a good concert, the lineup of musicians are ones to see for sure. Like his shades looks like the aviator shape glasses, hmmmm. Good to know Prince will be on stage in America, I was thinking he would tour europe being he released his 20ten album throughout europe, but have not seen a u.s. release of the ablum yet. Did get a chance to listen to some of his songs via internet off of the ablum, it's pretty good.

Welcome to America is best described as...what we've all been waiting for.
I will serve as master of ceremonies for multiple nights of entertainment that will some of the best artists this country has to offer. We're talking about a list which includes but not limited to the legendary Maceo Parker, my favorite new artist Janelle Monae, from Minneapolis Mint Condition, the new face of jazz and classical music Esperanza Spaulding, and one who's been around for a while but still continues to haunt me to this day Cassandra Wilson.
Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E and of course Grand Central Station are just some of the names that have agreed to showcase their talents along with the New Power Generation and I.
Without giving too much away, anyone who has even been to one of our concerts, inclusive of Stephen Hill, knows...they know what time it is. So you need to come early, you need to come often because every time we play there's always something new, no concert is ever the same, I got a lot of hits.
Bring friends, bring your children, and bring foot spray 'cause it's gonna be funky.

Prince still looks exactly the same. It's like he doesn't age. He look good and he's so calm now. On the BET awards he told the young artist in his speech that they don't have to follow down the same path he took in the past because he was wild back in the day. Now he's very spiritual and totally different.

Well, I am not sure what the plan is for this tour but I would love to see it. And I also cannot help but remember what Prince said about MJ years ago. It was really strange. Something about people shouldn't doubt him because you never know...you never know. I'm paraphrasing but it was something like that. There was a video with him stating this. It makes me wonder how much does Prince knows about everything... with him knowing about 9/11 beforehand, the strange MJ comments and now this eerily similar press conference.

Unfortunately I think it goes both ways..
I just hope that if some Prince fans joined this site that they wouldn't be victimized because they like Prince. I may be naive but I don't think that would happen. I hope not anyway.

That indeed isn't nice, but that doesn't mean that MJ fans would not want to have dealings with Prince fans or would not welcome Prince fans here. If so, that would be "an eye for an eye", and that can never be the intention.

A prince fan comments:
the difference in these pictures is Prince looks really good and healthy and obviously had no problems speaking and Michael looks like some drag queen alien and from what I can remember he could barely speak in sentences at that news conference.
Then an MJ fans steps in and replies:

To me it's similar to the Elvis connection. To me Elvis and Prince music is okay, but I'm just not into them like I am MJ. Those guys might be very talented and famous, nothing wrong with them, but if I was into them I'd be on their sites. I'm not averse to learning about them a little here. I think they were both equally top rivals of Michael's in certain ways. They may yet each have some part to play in Michael's hoax. I've seen this video of Prince talking about Michael, and some other stories concerning Prince. And I respect that there's people here who have all kinds of other interests besides MJ, myself included. From MoQuake.com, regarding the video footage that was played during the press conference:
I was there. Stephen Hill (BET) said it was from the O2. The first clip was Prince playing Guitar. The second clip was the Controversy/Housequake medley with clips of celebrities at the concerts talking about how much they liked Prince's music. I don't know that it was a finished DVD per se, but the clips were definitely from the O2 concerts. They showed the O2, the symbol stage, Cora, Maceo, and the Twinz. I'm trying to remember exactly what Stephen Hill said about the clips (ie. did he use the word "dvd").

Also I find the title interesting, "Welcome 2 America", because I've heard Prince speak about how he doesn't support politics. I don't know, his speech just makes me think that it's going to be more than just a concert.
Not to mention, the photo, one of his eyes is covered...makes me think of the illuminati.
And about the "purple day in December". Obviously he's referring to "Purple Rain", right? But I thought about looking deeper into the meaning of the color purple.

I get this "gut" feeling that Prince is working with MJ and this is all part of the plan. I don't think that Prince was announcing a tour, because he said a series of "events" , not concerts. He also said he would be MC. "Welcome To America"...who is he welcoming? Maybe he is welcoming Michael to America, because before the hoax, America was the only place that treated him like dirt, on many different levels. Now America loves Michael, so it would be like he finally felt "welcomed" in America now. Who knows, all I know is that this press conference and MJ's,give me the vibe that they are working together somehow.
Or maybe the "events" are going to be something completely different...something "out of this world!" ;) Something is definitely in the works...I can feel it! :D

I'd like to add that just because Mike doesn't love them doesn't mean he's a hateful person. In fact, him wanting justice and wanting to take Sony down would really be for the greater good of humanity and not just for his own personal satisfaction. He just wants to make things right and to me, that means it's all for LOVE. Love isn't always rainbows and butterflies, sometimes it means dealing with other painful emotions like anger and hate for the greater good of the world. Plus, you can't really forgive someone if they aren't sorry. I know in some situations it's best to sort of do that, and to just walk away and forget about it. But in this case, Michael was/is in a position to make a difference in the world and to prevent what happened to him from happening to anyone else. To me, that is love in it's highest form. Forgiving someone before any wrongs are made right is wasting an opportunity to change the state of human consciousness in the world, in my opinion.

And doesn't Prince look awfully "MJ-ish"? His shirt and the sunglasses... reminds me alot of what Michael (or whoever it was) wore for the 02 announcement.
Also I find the title interesting, "Welcome 2 America", because I've heard Prince speak about how he doesn't support politics. I don't know, his speech just makes me think that it's going to be more than just a concert.

I couldn't wait to get here and see what may have cropped up concerning this exciting announcement, because it was so reminiscent of the O2 announcement. Prince most likely does have some kind of hand in the hoax, and even if he doesn't, he seems to have a similar outlook and knowledge of things the way MJ does, to the point where anything new he does is as exciting to me as hoax developments..!

I have to say I have always liked Prince's music just as much as I like MJ's music - always have always will....and I was DEFINITELY there in the 80's and before then too... :lol:
I think the media perpetuated the BS about them "hating" each other.
Perhaps one day we might even find out that Prince has been helping Michael in this somehow, someway....along with a few other "big name" celebrities. 8-)

I also find it funny that people, who are not following this adventure with MJ, automatically noticed the similarity to this press conference and MJ's. I think this was done on purpose. I still remember the sign on the Apollo Theatre. The second clip was the Controversy/Housequake medley with clips of celebrities at the concerts talking about how much they liked Prince's music. I don't know that it was a finished DVD per se, but the clips were definitely from the O2 concerts. They showed the O2, the symbol stage, Cora, Maceo, and the Twinz. I'm trying to remember exactly what Stephen Hill said about the clips (ie. did he use the word "dvd").

Back in the day I had MJ and Prince music blaring and Thriller VHS playing and Purple Rain!
I think the rivalry was made by the media. Both are great artists and I wouldn't compare them one bit. Prince was made fun of too when he changed his name to the unoronouncable word and I believe that was a contratual move.
I am positive I never heard a public word of ill will about any artist from Michaels lips. All were fighting the same battle as he was and all were put under the thumb of the major money makers. Unfairly! Michael made a stand and voiced his opinion and Prince did too by changing his name so he could still create.

About Prince fans not liking Michael, I don't think it's necessarily about Michael (personally) but the fact that someone ALWAYS has to mention Michael somehow when discussing Prince! Now wouldn't it annoy you guys if people kept bringing up Prince or comparing their talent whenever you visited a Michael site (or watched a YT video)? I luv ma Prince and I luv ma Mike and it pains me when people go that way, talking loads of crap when they could just relax and appreciate the beautiful gifts that are MJ and Prince.
What further pains me is that I missed out on tickets to P's Copenhagen concert and that he's "postponed" the Antwerp concert :cry: . What's a girl to do now?

Just wait it out... The date on which Prince will appear in the Antwerp Sportpaleis may or may not be confirmed during the second half of October. What about trying to get tickets for his Herning gig on 10/22? I know it's sold out, but you might hit a luck and lay your hands on tickets from someone who due to circumstance can't go.
There are still rumors about Prince doing a gig in Rotterdam on November 8, so you're not the only one who's waiting ;)

yeah, I'm checking up on it everyday but it just seems like there won't be any time to fit another concert in before Abu Dhabi if he doesn't do it soon. I'm a poor student and need to book tickets in advance. Believe it or not but it's cheaper to go to Antwerp from Sweden than to Herning! It's a real hazzle trying to get there. If I wasn't so broke I wouldn't care but I can't actually afford to go to any of his concerts but thought that Copenhagen and Antwerp were at least within reach. Guess we'll have to wait together ;) .
