Title: Who do you think is the greatest black musician?
Post by: badloving on June 19, 2010, 11:06:04 AM
June is Black Music Month and according to The Nielsen Company, sales of music units topped 1.5 billion last year. Who do you think is the greatest black musician of the past few decades?

 69%(70540)Prince
 30%(30652)Michael Jackson
 1%(1095)Stevie Wonder
 0%(147)Aretha Franklin
 0%(319)

Do you think we can help MJ win this race?? I think he is the best musician ever...Besides, Prince is No 1 for now :(
What do you say?

greatest black musician? Doesnt that mean someone who plays instruments? I know Prince is a awesome guitarist. I know MJ played piano. So what direction are they wanting to go with this question. Its hard to chose just one.

Musician is anyone who makes music. Who knows what instruments Michael was able to play, but every instrument's part came straight from his mind. Not to mention he was able to mimic worlds and worlds of instrumental sounds to create music. Lots, if not most, mj tracks have him beatboxing in it. You can hear it if you're listening closely for it. But at first it just sounds like an instrument.

I love Prince too. But nobody comes close to MJ. He didn't become known as the King for nothing.

It now says Michael is 51% and Prince is 47%. I think Michael could play instruments. That is obvious by the way he knows the chord progressions, keys, etc. I just think we didn't see it because he thought we'd rather see him sing and dance. While I loved that too it would have been awesome to see him sit behind the piano for a song or two and just sing.

I think they need to add MJ's idol to the list too.  James Brown he was an awesome musician as well.  He could sing, dance, and he took full control of his band when he performed.  I'm suprised he's not on the lists.

I don't understand why there are awards on "black" or "white" musicians when music is for the WORLD. music crosses borders, it's beyond nations, religions, languages and races.

Michael is the greatest.  But, I do think that Bob Marley should be included on the list.

2nd that. How could they not include the Godfather?  :?  He's the one who inspired amazing artists like Michael and Prince!
