All this season there have been constant hints and clues on American Idol. One of the contestants even had on an outfit that looked like Tinkerbell's at the beginning of the season and then Orianthi on there and now Janet, people doing MJ songs. Something is afoot with AI I do beLIEve. Something a bit more than hero worship.

I have Dish, and I wanted to know what American Idol was going to be about on Wed. and it says it goes off at 9:05 (central standard time)... does it always extend 5 minutes?? (if not, something might happen in those 5 minutes)

Idol can never finish in its allotted time slot so yes even though it is 5 mins extra it might go over that limit. I don't think there will be a bam but a definite clue to a bam.
The buzz is that from next season onward they are shifting to New York and all the judges could be going. Only the host Ryan Seacrest is a sure thing.
Maybe Michael could judge it from his home in Neverland while it is being televised live. Anything is possible and I would love to have him part of it.

Ever since Kelly Clarkson was crowned its inaugural champion in 2002, "Idol" has been a significant driver of album and single sales for Sony.
So Idols are signed to 19 which is a company of Sony??? All the more reason why Michael needs to step in.

With their saucy captain Simon Cowell leaving American Idol's judging table next season, Fox desperately needs a big, branded name to replace him and keep young people viewing and voting.
The network thinks they have found their man, but they might need to brawl for him — with Simon himself.
According to Nikke Finke and Mike Fleming at Deadline.com, Fox sources say the man who can save television's No. 1 show is Tommy Mottola, the former Sony Music chief best known as Mariah Carey's ex-husband and the top executive behind Michael Jackson's music. But Simon Cowell also wants Mottola to be a judge on his other Fox show debuting this fall, The X Factor.
Mottola's made a name for himself as the industry's most flamboyant moguls. During three decades in the industry, he has nurtured acts like Hall & Oates, Diana Ross and Bruce Springsteen. At Sony, he signed stars including Dixie Chicks, Destiny’s Child, New Kids on the Block, Ricky Martin, Celine Dion, and Jennifer Lopez.
Mottola left (or was pushed out?) of Sony in January 2003, when the company had lost $132 million in the first six months of its fiscal year and album sales had plummeted by 11 percent across the industry. He's now co-owner of Casablanca Records, a joint venture with the Universal Music Group, and launched the careers of Usher and Lindsey Lohan as a singing sensation. He is also married to Mexican pop singer Thalia.
Mottola's star-studded past and showmanship might bring in enough viewers to save American Idol (and keep Fox's advertisers happy). He will have to build some sexual tension between the judges to bring back that Paula-Simon magic — and practice delivering mean zingers.
Yet signing Mottola onto American Idol will turn Fox executives against Simon — their star that they need to keep happy and turn The X Factor into a success.
According to one of Deadline.com's sources: "Mottola has remarkable leverage because of this tug of war and will get a big payday from somebody." That's for sure

Did you guys see the new coca cola commercial during the break.....its a vending machine and a guys hand sticks out and keeps handing out bottle after bottle of coke and then he hands out a bouguet of sunflowers........ :shock: follwed by a huge sandwich lol.
Then after crystal's last song, which it appeared to me she had a sunflower on her guitar strap, not sure though it was quick... then the camera is on her but a pair of hands shoots up in front of the camera doing the heart shape....you could tell this was planned and not a thing caught on camera by the timing of it.....can't wait till tonight's show.... :)

Okay a couple of things...
Is it just me or does that commercial remind you of Liberian Girl and the funeral? It's not exactly like it but it makes me wonder who is behind the camera or in this instance, who is behind the concept of "Open Happiness." I wonder if MJ and Coca Cola went into a business deal where he comes up with a marketing idea, puts together the theme, the song, and the commercial and they'll be able to advertise on TMZ, American Idol and maybe a few other major market areas. I am not sure if that's exactly how the deal would be made unless MJ has investments in TMZ and American Idol but just thinking out loud here.
Another thing about that commercial is the fact that it is promoting Michael Jackson and This Is It with the jacket being so visible in the commercial. Big businesses do not shoot whatever just because it looks nice. There is always a marketing strategy for the shots they choose to pick for a commercial so there must be some deal, some where between either Sony and Coca Cola or Michael Jackson and Coca Cola. I'm thinking its the latter because of the TMZ Coca Cola reference.
Oh and I love Janet's performance. I figure at this point, she doesn't have to dance extra hard to prove that she is a legend. She can just strut her stuff and that's fine by me. I mean maybe she is saving the dance moves for a special occasion. ;)
And I also did notice the masks. My mind went straight to the hoax like hmmm...another mask like V for Vendetta. :lol:

OMG! My boyfriend called to tell me that Michael was singing one of Janet's song and Janet was lip syncing to it...LOL! He's not really a believer in the hoax but hes not a nonbeliever either...the fact that he noticed it right away without even thinking about it is HUGE! My mom agreed and she was almost in tears because she couldn't believe it. Why else would Janet go on idol? She never did before. ahhhhh I'm like shaking right now...I had heard that song before and knew it sounded like Mike..but seeing her lip sync to it really confirmed it for me because you can tell that THAT voice shouldnt be coming out of her. Wowwowowowowow!

you guys, i think this is the piece by piece. think about it. all the articles ("michael is alive at UCLA"), sunflowers everywhere, the tribute shows cancelled, janet's song accompanying a movie- yet she performs on american idol and sounds like michael AGAIN. i mean, it's one thing if they recorded the song in a studio and it was meant to be just a clue/treat for us. but for her to sound like michael live in front of millions of viewers and on the finale night- THIS IS HUGE. and i think its the first time i've seen people take a step back and go, "wait a minute." i think the time we've been waiting for is coming very, very soon. we get michael back, but then our REAL job starts- help him with whatever he needs us to do. we promised.
p.s.....is there any way i could get that awesome thriller this is it jacket?!?!
edit: you know, about the mask thing....TMZ posts an article with Omar wearing some zipper mask, and the dancers in the beginning all have masks on. how coincidental...

janet sang tonight and then they sang a beatles song- "with a little help from my friends". michael's getting help from us? that man is everywhere.
my mom made an interesting comment, she asked what if michael is one of the dancers. you know, he was never able to resist that energy you can get on stage. she said all the dancers had their shirts off except one guy in the back. i'll have to look at the youtube video when it becomes available because i didn't see it. she's totally onto this hoax thing now. the moment janet started singing she was like "thats michael." she's a pretty awesome woman.

You guy's didn't even notice the song Crystal sang with Alanis? The same song Beyonce covered at the Grammy's or something. The one that goes "til you die, til you die, but you're still alive!" at the riff. It was good but Crystal is quite loud. As for Janet, can i say DIVA! She looked amazing, sounded awesome, and brought the fierce. Although my aunt was watching it with us, and knows nothing about the hoax said, 'she sounds just like Michael?!?! She looked quite astonished, it was odd. That show was awesome.

I saw Janet too on Idol tonight. I thought she seemed a little nervous because it looked like her hand was shaking alittle when she was holding the mic. I notice that when she performs she always wear something MJ related. Like the gloves that go up the arm like MJ wore in the bad video. She had some gloves on like that. She also had some black sequins on the shoulders part of her top. She did the thing like MJ use to do when he goes behind the white screen and you can see his silloette. She did that when she was changing her outfit for the Nasty boys song. I really like the song Nothing that she sings. That is a pretty song. Speaking of the video Nothing has anyone noticed the panels in the video and how they keep changing? First there is 9 then there's 5 then there's like 3 and then one time I think I counted 7. I'm talking about the glass mirror looking things in the background that they show Janet on in the video. I'm not saying it's a clue but it stood out to me.

I also have to agree with you guys when you said she sounded like Michael, especially in certain parts of the songs. ;)

I agree in certain parts of the song it was TOTALLY MJ!!! I know she can make her voice go deep but there is just something about the tone of MJ's voice & the way he sings that stands out, that she can't do & that's what I heard. I mean, the voice just didn't fit her you could tell & she barely had her mouth open while "singing" the part that goes "We gotta fix this, fix this right this minute, only true love can calm the noise" (which is the part that made me go :shock: :o ;) :mrgreen: :lol: lol. If you look away or close your eyes & listen to it again, it's obvious, I made my mom do that & now she agrees with me! :D & then when the dancers were performing, I also noticed someone behind them when they have their shirts off who is wearing a black jacket, white shirt & black tie who appears to still have a mask on dancing around, lol. Who the heck is that?! I absolutely LOVED the Janet performance! I also loved, even though it had nothing to do with MJ or Janet, when Bret Michaels came out after all he's been through, the man could have died he came so close & he came out & looked so happy. That was a great moment as well, I'm not a huge fan of his but I do feel bad for him. I also noticed Crystals car that she got to design, was painted with huge sunflowers all over it! Hmmm ;)

Funny you should mention Janet sounding like Michael. My husband walked by and out of the blue said she sounded like Michael. :shock:
I was watching AI and my daughter was in the kitchen washing dishes and she said "That sounds like Michael." She does believe MJ is not dead. You really can tell MJ's voice from Janet's. I was surprise to see Brett Michaels. He just suffered a stroke last week, right? He'd look tired.

I have been wondering for awhile now if MJ would want Simon's job. They have been pretty "mum" on SImon's replacement. Interesting finale last night. It does have MJ written all over it. Also, Simon made some comment that there will be some changes made to the show so I wonder if it is going to be more than just a singing competition...maybe there might be some dance added in there ;)...just my thoughts lol. It would be the perfect marketing strategy to get more people to watch American Idol. I think the numbers have been dwindling since Paula left and now Simon leaving too.

I knew Michael was singing parts of this song the first time I heard it when it released. It is obvious from watching the official video of the song that it doesn't match her voice, timing or mouth movements. Last night was no exception! We love you, Michael! And YES, we will be there! :D :D

When Janet Jackson took the stage last night for a medley of her own songs, several Beatweek readers – and some of our staff – noted that she sounded remarkably like her late brother Michael Jackson, particularly on her new song entitled Nothing (which, by the way, is now in the top ten on the R&B charts). In fact, others elsewhere have thought that she sounded so much like Michael that she must have been lip synching to his voice. For starters, we don’t think it’s appropriate to hurl that kind of accusation at someone without real evidence, but even so, just what would she be lip syncing to? After all, Nothing is a new song of hers, and Michael passed away last. The whole theory sounds like something out of the grassy knoll.
Here’s what we think: Janet Jackson, by virtue of coming from the same DNA pool as Michael, and by virtue of having grown up singing with him, likely finds it very natural to sing in a manner that sounds very similar to that of her late brother’s effeminate voice. And frankly, she’s one of the few people in the world who has a right to sound that much like Michael. She’s at this point the de facto representative of the Jackson clan, and the closest thing we have remaining in terms of his legacy. So if Janet is comfortable with sounding hauntingly like Michael in her latest single, that’s her prerogative. And in fact, if you go and give “Nothing” a few close listens you’ll see that the vocals have a noticeably more female tenor than anything Michael ever released. And it’ll also reveal the fact that, upon close inspection, “Nothing” is actually a great song.

Okay, the Music Festival is the Essence Music Festival, don't they always do that? & when she sings Nasty, it's her. I just don't see what the point would be of lip synching to MJ's voice for her own song. For "Nothing" maybe, because maybe that's MJ's song or something. But there's no point for him to sing "Nasty". Her voice can go deep too obviously, especially now that she's older & hasn't performed for a while. & most of the "Nasty" performance, she was almost yelling it, I think because she was tired a little bit. There's no denying that "Nothing" was MJ though. & as for that article, MJ has released some songs where he sings like that, with a more "female tenor" kind of sound, here's one off the top of my head....Speechless. He has more a range, where he can sing softer like that & then he can also sing more masculine & harder. Janet's voice has never changed much in any of her songs, her voice is always noticeably different compared to his. I hope this post makes sense. I'm trying to do two things at once, talking on the phone & typing this. But I think you get what I'm trying to say, lol.

Ok, I will probably be in the minority on this particular subject here, but I really don't think Janet sounds enough like Michael to the point of it actually being Michael. Does this take away from the fact that I believe Michael could potentially be alive? Absolutely not.
Janet and Michael are siblings and developing silimalr styles from that alone (in more ways then one) is bound to happen. Besides, aside from being her big brother, Michael has also been a huge mentor and role model for Janet... Of course she is going to favor him. I will admit that from 3:20 to about 3:51 it's eerie how much she sounds like Michael and even I got a chill, but I really think that, that was just genetics.
I hope I haven't been too much of a "Debbie Downer" here, but I really think we are digging far too deep with this whole Janet sounding like Michael thing. Besides, if you really listen and know both their voices you will hear the slight differences. In my opinion, Janet's voice and it's capability to sound strikingly similar to her brothers is nothing more then a blessing and if anyone in the music business deserves to have a sound or style similar to Michaels... It's her.
As for Michael possibly replacing Simon, obviously that would be AMAZING! But lets be real, (and it saddens me to say this) Michael is undoubtbly the biggest celebrity this world has known, so famous to the point of maybe being too famous. He could never be on a show that is so open to the public. Could you imagine how hectic auditions would be? The fainting, and fanatic fans only trying out to get a glimpse of him? It would be impossible! However, I would love to be wrong on this particular topic cause Michael judging Idol would be beyond awesome. ;)

I agree 100%. Janet's voice does have range and she hasn't performed in a while so her voice could have become a little bit more raspy over time. And she can sound so much like Michael, it's scary. Just listen to This Can't Be Good. Oh and yeah I doubt MJ would be able to be a judge unfortunately. I think there was a rumor that MJ was going to guest judge for the show but it ended up not working due to security. Either way, her performance was great and I'm happy she is gaining the respect of the general public. It's sad it takes a "death" to do it though. :|

He says she sounded just like Michael!!! This reminds me of the VMA tribute in 2008 where Janet's vocals on Scream sounded exactly like Michael. Could that mike to her ear have been emitting Mike's vocals and hence the hand held mike held up to it??
The performance was meant to give you chills and I think that was the surprise in it. Im glad the crowd loved her.
I saw the images in the pink background too, quite a few of Michael Jackson shadows in it. Also love Timor dancing.
I think if Michael is a judge he will do it via satellite. Cos that would provide the security. I think his insights would be invaluable and the ratings would go through the roof cos we all know how genius he is and he loves all kinds of music.

Also I think it is Timor that she rests her leg on and he is lying in the centre of the stage. Timor has the white socks on. He was also one of the featured dancers in TII or at least he was kind of the spokesperson for all the dancers.
She grabs Nick Bass's face and sings to him when he is to the left of the stage.
So why would she choose the 2 dancers from TII to do this and not any of the other 10.

I also found it strange that Janet was not introduced but just showed up in the AI contestants' song. Ryan eventually says, "Janet Jackson!" but otherwise nothing is said about her or her accomplishments. Will that be how it is with MJ, just suddenly appears, no words of introduction? And she runs off stage as if she wasn't supposed to be there, had taken too much time, or she was off to something else. I've never seen a big star run off after their performance. This all adds to the mystery element!!!

The article was right about Janet being the only one allowed to channel Michael - she copies everything he does so it seems and has done so since the start of her career.
Remember her Rhythm Nation video. Remember the shoulders for her recent clothes - like Michael's human nature rehearsal and her nothing video.
Even the embellishment on the shoulders is like what Zaldy designed for Michael - the purple outfit.

you can definitely tell the difference in Janet's voice vs. Michael's voice and boy that does sound like Mike! Near the 3 minute mark it seems as if they are singing together and then at 3:20 it's as if MJ takes over... At 3:51 Janet takes the mic back! WOW... I can feel it! CAN YOU????

Here is the commercial. Look closely at 0:44 at the dude's jacket...it says THIS IS IT on it, its the same jacket MJ wore in the beginning of Thriller in the movie and then at 1:14...a bouquet of SUNFLOWERS!!!

You have it backwards, the jacket is actually at 1:14 and the bouqet of sunflowers is at :44, but amazing!
And yeah, I have that Jacket. It was a limited edition, I bought mine from "Hot Topic" in my mall. It's called the "Thriller Varsity Jacket"

I think Janet looked and sounded amazing singing Nasty Boyz. But if that wasn't Michael singing "Nothing" I'll eat my hat, coat, shoes and all other apparel. While they may share the same amazing DNA, no one sings like Michael. Call me crazy and save me room in the padded cell but I swear it was him.

I've been saying too that this particular part of nothing sounded exactly like michael in the destiny era and I was in tears over it cause I really felt like it was him and got chills, though I know janet sounds like him since I have a huge collection of hers too and know she's capable of sounding like him at times when she wants to
I didn't watch the show but reading about all these coincidences with the sunflowers and jacket made me go wow!

Hey...I need to analyse all this better because I listend 5 times to Janet, watching her and not watching her and to me SHE sings!!!! How come I can't hear Michael?? I mean their both voices were always very close, just like they look a lot alike...It's true that she sometimes sings like Michael but I still can recognize her voice...Im mad I cant hear what u guys hear!!! :roll:

I see and hear the comparison.,... but i have always thought since the 80's that Janet has obviously took her inspiration from Michael and copied his sound and format. Just my thoughts.
"Rythm Nation" was very MJ in her video.. im sure ive seen an interview with Michael where he discusses that and said that him and Janet were always on the same wavelength. He said Janet rang him up and spoke to him about Rythm Nation and said she had an idea to wear Militay uniform.. right at the same time he wanted to go with that image so he let Janet go first.

I have been wondering for awhile now if MJ would want Simon's job. They have been pretty "mum" on SImon's replacement. Interesting finale last night. It does have MJ written all over it. Also, Simon made some comment that there will be some changes made to the show so I wonder if it is going to be more than just a singing competition...maybe there might be some dance added in there ;)...just my thoughts lol. It would be the perfect marketing strategy to get more people to watch American Idol. I think the numbers have been dwindling since Paula left and now Simon leaving too.

I heard that Brett Michaels made a comment about maybe replacing Simon. Two thoughts on Michael replacing Simon: 1) would anyone watch the singers and dancers if MJ was around? I know my eyes would be fixated on MJ. 2) Can MJ be mean enough to give honest critique? Michael is an encourager and wouldn't want to hurt people's feelings. I do think nobody could give the show a better rating than MJ, however. I know I'd be watching more.

The headset mic was for her performance for "Nasty". Why she had it on during "Nothing" instead of putting it on during her costume change, I don't know...Also while she was performing "Nothing" she turned it off after the part we all believed to be MJ. She pressed a button on the ear piece. So maybe his voice was being fed through that mic or something. Who knows...

I felt like the Coke Machine was Michael and the people around it were acting like it's Michael. The hands reminded me of Michael. It gave pizza like Michael did to fans. And the sunflowers. It made me think of how Pepsi and MJ joined forces in the early 90's cause of being big in America and taking on the world, and now it's happening with Coke and he's doing it. Is mj a soda pop machine now? Was there more to this commercial?

This is all very interesting to me as yesterday on television, not sure which channel, but there was a show on about the NEW future of Coke and how they are almost to the popular point in their new bottle shapes, various new campagnes etc.....to take over the world! It was really tooting the horn of the New Coke company of the future. There was a news man walking around with one of the higher ups in the company and they were saying this is the new beginning for Coke as they have all they have ever dreamed of etc.....ready to take charge, connect with the future blah blah blah and this all really has me thinking maybe just maybe they have MJ by their sides.

That's simply because their two voices have always been very close, and michael is more popular than Janet, especially in a kid's mind ( my sister is 5 and knows michael but has never she doesnt know who janet is) so when he hears her...it is clear to me that your son would identify janets voice as being MJ's!!! The Jacksons all look and sound the same anyway...!!!

I knew Michael was singing parts of this song the first time I heard it when it released. It is obvious from watching the official video of the song that it doesn't match her voice, timing or mouth movements. Last night was no exception! We love you, Michael! And YES, we will be there! :D :D

I mean, the voice just didn't fit her you could tell & she barely had her mouth open while "singing" the part that goes "We gotta fix this, fix this right this minute, only true love can calm the noise" (which is the part that made me go :shock: :o ;) :mrgreen: :lol: lol.
The line in the song underlined above in which Janet sounded SOOO much like Michael reminded me of these lines in This Is It during the J5 medley singing "I Want You Back" when Michael pulled the earplug out of his ear and says:
"You guys I'm trying to hear and I can't.....It feels like somebody's fist... like somebody's fist is shoved into my ear...I'm trying to hear and I can't ....With the love, with the love......L.O.V.E"

Go watch it again if you can....I find it one of the truly fascinating scenes in This Is It and have always felt it had a another meaning besides him having problems with his earplugs and volume etc....it has a double meaning to me this scene.
