WENN -- Joaquin Phoenix is set to shock fans with the release of his new documentary -- Casey Affleck's film about the actor's bid to become a rap star is packed with controversial scenes of sex, drugs and nudity.

The "Walk The Line" star announced plans to quit acting last year and concentrate on making music. He grew a straggly beard and waded through a string of bizarre public appearances that led many to believe his career-change was little more than a practical joke.

Phoenix's brother-in-law Affleck subsequently announced he would be filming his friend's burgeoning hip-hop career for a documentary, which further fuelled rumors of an elaborate hoax -- even though the Oscar-nominated actor insisted he was serious about becoming a rapper.

Affleck has now completed his film, titled "I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix," and has previewed the footage in a bid to find a distributor. Reports suggest the picture features shocking scenes of the star apparently snorting cocaine, ordering call girls and having oral sex with a publicist -- fuelling gossip the film is in fact a "mockumentary."

But Affleck is adamant the footage is real. He tells ABC News, "I wanted to explore what I thought would be an interesting period in his life. He said he didn't want to act anymore, he wanted to try doing music, and that, right there, says something's going to happen.

"I had no idea what exactly was going to happen and all that would unfold and every day I spent with him on this journey. It ended up being more and more fascinating, more and more things happened that were both in the public spectacle and a very private internal implosion that I got to witness. It made for this unbelievable, one-of-a-kind movie. You'll find out what was happening in his life in that period -- what was going on before he went on (sic), what was going on afterwards.

I heard the death of Heath Ledger, his friend, changed him. It brought back memories of his brother River and he had to relive it. He just couldn't recover. Maybe he used this rap career as a defense mechanism or way to deal. I worry about Joaquin, he was such a talented actor.

Director admits Joaquin Phoenix documentary a hoax
– 2 hrs 45 mins ago

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Joaquin Phoenix transformed from a clean-cut actor into a bearded, druggy rap wannabe two years ago -- but it seems it was all in the name of art.

His brother-in-law Casey Affleck, who made a documentary about Phoenix's transition from acclaimed actor to bearded, shambolic hip-hop star, admitted on Thursday that it was an act.

"It's a terrific performance, it's the performance of his career," Affleck told the New York Times.

Affleck said Phoenix put his professional life on the line to star in the documentary, "I'm Still Here," which captivated viewers at the Venice International Film Festival this month.

At the event, Phoenix swore it was a genuine documentary despite clear indications on the screen that it was a "mockumentary" poking fun at a narrow-minded public.

The buzz about the documentary began when a bearded Phoenix appeared on David Letterman's chat show in February last year, confused and mumbling.

In the movie Phoenix is at times funny and coherent and at others childish, aggressive and paranoid as he struggles to live with his decision in 2008, which the media greeted with breathless disbelief, to give up acting and take up hip-hop.

The film includes footage of him apparently taking drugs, surfing the Internet for call girls, hosting prostitutes, diving off a stage to attack a heckler and vomiting. It also features rap impresario Sean Combs, who finally agrees to listen to a demo of his hip-hop music.

Affleck has now come clean. Virtually none of it was real, he told the New York Times. Not even the opening shots, supposedly of Phoenix and his siblings swimming in a water hole in Panama. Affleck said that was actually shot in Hawaii with actors. "I never intended to trick anybody," said Affleck.

He acknowledged that Letterman was not in on the joke involving Phoenix who was nominated for an Oscar for his role of Johnny Cash in "Walk The Line."

Phoenix, whose sister Summer is married to Affleck, is due to return to "The Late Show with David Letterman" next week -- and Affleck said this time he would not be in character.

Report: Affleck admits Joaquin Phoenix doc a fake
– Thu Sep 16, 11:13 pm ET

NEW YORK – Casey Affleck is admitting to what many critics suspected all along: His documentary about Joaquin Phoenix was a fake.

The film, "I'm Still Here," followed Phoenix as he announced he was retiring from acting and launching a rap career.

The "Walk the Line" star grew doughy and disheveled, and he famously made an awkward appearance on David Letterman's show.

Affleck, who's Phoenix's brother-in-law and the film's director, now tells The New York Times that the whole thing was an act, calling it "the performance of his career." Affleck says he even faked home movies of Phoenix as a child.

But he insists he never meant to trick anyone, and rather was dabbling in "gonzo filmmaking."

Some critics called it a fascinating look at celebrity. Others assumed it was all staged.

First reaction

It will be intersting to see if TMZ run this,  its very similar to our current situation, so will our Film Director be the "Phoenix" who will  arise and say "Im Still here". :?  And and say, I am retiring from the music industry and starting a acting and film career, this is maybe a mirror image of this situation.

Wonder if MJ will soon appear on LKL "out of character" hope we dont have to wait the full 2 years.

Waiting and Watching!  :o

Nice one! Things like this just add weight to what MJ's doing. Wake up world - stop being so gullible - all is not always as it seems.

Maybe some of you remember and wondered about Joaquin Phoenix´behaviour over the last two years; first he announced that he´s retiring from the acting business and won´t ever do a movie again and wants to start a Hip Hop career. He grew a beard and looked a little...well.. weird.

Now it was shown on tv, that it was supposed to be for a documentary, to show, how fast it can go downwards in Hollywood, from huge success to ridicule. (...doesn´t that sound familiar?)

The film is called "I´M STILL HERE".

See the imdb-page:

When it comes out, I´m sure it´ll be interesting to watch this documentary... as it shows how people can be "fooled" into believing something withough noticing.

And this is what I mean by the MJ-parallel:

All we saw is how Joaquin looked like over the last two years, how weirdly he behaved and that a lot of people, I´m sure, just thought "What a weirdo has he become now?? He must be crazy"... so he wasn´t taken seriously anymore. Now there´ll be a documentary to lift the veil..

So all those people who called MJ a weirdo over the last years.... maybe they will know soon that all of his so-called "weird" behaviour was part of a bigger plan - to make people realize their own behaviour.

Quote from: "GirlInTheMirror"
I also like him as an actor, but actually I wanted to point out the hoax in the story, and why it was done...

So GirlInTheMirror was right about 'I'm Still Here'.

There had been speculation about this movie being a hoax, even on this site
viewtopic.php?f=49&t=9706&p=163521&hilit=joaquin#p162630

Earlier this week I saw an interview with the director. He was challenged about whether this was the performance of Joaquin's life but he remained straight-faced and said all the right things.  Although his facial expressions were suspicious, his words were believable! http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/txt/s3012398.htm (http://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/txt/s3012398.htm)

It will be interesting to see how people react.  Are there connections with this hoax?  Now I'm wondering if the director is the real director.

Joaquin was a friend of Heath Ledger's and his death reminded him of his brother River and brought him back and he had to relive it. I had previously thought that was why he changed so much. Well, people judged him on the way he looked, that is what Michael had to go through all the time. Anyway, catch Joaquin on David Letterman September 22! Should be interesting to see what he will reveal.

Don't jump on me, but knowing what we know about Michael having planned this hoax for possibly over 10 years, and being a druggie and not healthy as part of the reason people believe he's really dead now, I have wondered for some time now, if this video clip where he is decidedly unclear about things he had signed because of prescription drugs in 2003, is also a clever part of the hoax. He is so adorable here, and very clear that he just doesn't know if he knew what he was doing.

Hello people!!!!

Thank you very much for this post Mo  !!

An hour ago I saw this story on internet and I was like  :o   .I was sure that somebody from Michaeljacksonhoaxforum would post about this one and here I am,lol   .
Here is somethig intresting from this documentary, its Phoenix and P DIDDY:

[youtube:86ji9gpj]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSUemAg-Ks4[/youtube:86ji9gpj]

Here is the trailer:

[youtube:86ji9gpj]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz6CU7pgiKc[/youtube:86ji9gpj]

Please let me show you some intresting comments I saw on this article( http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100917/en_nm/us_phoenix_1#mwpphu-container)about this hoax.I think that this people have absolute right and they are smart too  8-) :

1. "Nancy :  Joaquin is a great actor, remember he is an actor !!! Hollywood is the land of make believe. DUH !!!"
2." Alonso Schneeweiss :    This board appears to reflect more outrage for an artistic "hoax" than I ever saw or heard in regard to more significant hoaxes -- such as "Iraq was involved in 9-11," or "Iraq is building WMDs!", or "Iraq is buying yellowcake from @#$%!", etc., etc.
LOL.
Phoenix and Affleck are simply trying to show you how you are enthralled by celebrity to the exclusion of interest in real events. From the amount of outrage their little hoax is drawing, I'd say they succeeded in their artistic objective."

Now that this Hoax its reveald I rememebr I saw something on the internet about Joaquin quiting his job as an actor. This news was around 2008-2009 or something ,and let me tell you that I was a little bit surprised about his decission. His look was strange and he was not the man I used to see in movie GLADIATOR :? .Here is an article I found about his decission:

Joaquin Phoenix Quits Acting: "I'm Done"
Huffington Post
First Posted: 10-28-08 09:51 PM   |   Updated: 11-28-08 05:12 AM
Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix made a shocking announcement to "Extra," saying, "I want to take this opportunity...to give you the exclusive ... that this will be my last performance as an actor... I'm not doing films anymore."

Probed further by "Extra's" Jerry Penacoli, "Are you serious?" Phoenix, who was curiously being followed by his own camera crews, reiterated, "Yeah. I'm working on my music. I'm done. I've been through that."

Penacoli, still suspicious, followed up with Casey Affleck who was standing next to Phoenix. Penacoli asked, "I take it that he's kidding?" Affleck responded, "I don't think he's kidding. He's got music and stuff."

Today, "Extra" contacted Phoenix's rep for clarification and got this response: "That is what he told me."

This was very strange decission I tought then, but after that I forgot about that. This thing came in to my mind again afte you put that post about Illuminati and about RIVER PHOENIX ,his brother.I dont know if people here knows about his weird death. He died very young in 1993 in front of .They were in a bar or pub and after he came out he suddenly died in front of a night club named VIPER ROOM owned By JOHNNY DEEP at that time. He died of a drug overdose   :?  :( .
Phoenix had returned to Los Angeles early that week from Utah to complete the three weeks of interior shots left on his last (and, uncompleted) project Dark Blood. His younger sister Rain and brother Joaquin had flown out to join him at his hotel. Phoenix's girlfriend Samantha Mathis had also come to meet him, and all would be present at the scene of Phoenix's death.
At some point in the evening, Phoenix went to the bathroom to take drugs with various friends and dealers. It is frequently reported that an acquaintance or dealer offered him Persian Brown (a powerful form of heroin mixed with methamphetamine, which is commonly snorted), however his autopsy report revealed no traces of methamphetamine in his system, but rather cocaine, morphine and diazepam (Heroin metabolizes to Morphine and shows up as such in the blood). Soon after consuming a combination of heroin and cocaine he became ill, and somebody reportedly gave him diazepam as it is commonly used to counter-act the effects of a stimulant overdose. However, because he had consumed heroin the treatment is thought to have been counter productive. During the early morning hours of October 31, 1993, Phoenix collapsed outside the club from a drug overdose of heroin and cocaine (known as a speedball) further amplified by the administration of diazepam. He convulsed for five minutes. When his brother Joaquin called 9-1-1, he was unable to determine whether River was breathing. Sister Rain Phoenix proceeded to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation   :o   to no avail.
During the episode, Johnny Depp and his band P (featuring Flea and Phoenix's friend Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers) were onstage. According to Haynes the band was in the middle of their song, "Michael Stipe"   , which includes the line "but we didn't have a part, not a piece of our heart, not Michael, River Phoenix or Flea or me.", while Phoenix was outside the venue having seizures on the sidewalk. When the news filtered through the club, Flea left the stage and rushed outside. Paramedics had arrived on the scene and found Phoenix in a flatline state, and they administered drugs in an attempt to restart his heart. He was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, accompanied by Flea, via an ambulance. Further attempts to resuscitate Phoenix (including the insertion of a pacemaker) were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 1:51 a.m. PST on the morning of October 31, 1993.

The following day the club became a makeshift shrine with fans and mourners leaving flowers, pictures and candles on the sidewalk and graffiti messages on the walls of the venue.
I dont know what you  people think but to me this look so strange ,colud this be just coincidents?????? :? And I dont understand why all this shrines for celebrities and famous people? Its like we make fake idols or something.I know that in the BIBLE, GOD sayed not to make FAKEE IDOLS,isnt this true?  Serenty's deream and Dmovie has some very good videos about this subjects regarding Fake idols and the origin of this .People did this to Marlin Monroe,Elvis Presley,Princess Diana,Michael Jackson and many more.

Sorry for the part about River but I tought was intresting to put here

Well my point is that if this HOAX with River Phoenix last for 2 years, with Michael hoax we now have 1 year and 3 months  :?: .How much we will have to wait before this will be reveald??????? ;)  :D

LOVE YOU MORE!!!!!

Writer Says Letterman Knew Phoenix Was Faking

posted by Mike Krumboltz - Fri Sep 17 2010, 1:48 PM PDT

celebs: David Letterman | Casey Affleck | Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix was just acting. That's the revelation that came from the mouth of director Casey Affleck regarding his bizarre documentary, "I'm Still Here."

Affleck gave an interview with the New York Times admitting that the entire film was just a performance, including Phoenix's infamous mumble-filled appearance on "Late Show With David Letterman" back in 2009.

In the Times interview, Affleck says Letterman was unaware of the joke. But according to an August 19, 2009, interview with one of his writers, Letterman was very much in on it. In NUVO Newsweekly, an independent weekly from Indianapolis, Marc D. Allan spoke to Bill Scheft, Letterman's monologue writer.

In the interview Scheft reveals, "Dave knew about it and Dave loved it because he could play along. He could do whatever he wanted with it. And he did, and it was great television." The writer also says he gave Letterman a line to use during a commercial break. "I will take credit for the line, 'I think I owe Farrah Fawcett an apology.' That line was mine."

What's amazing is that this interview is from 2009, and yet nobody seemed to pick up on it. We called Mr. Allan to confirm that Mr. Scheft was being sincere in the interview. Mr. Allan says that not only was Mr. Scheft sincere, but he (Mr. Allen) sent the article out to numerous publications as proof that Phoenix's behavior was just a ruse. Nobody ever picked up on it.

A CBS spokesperson declined to comment. However, numerous bloggers have commented on the revelation that Affleck's film was a hoax. A blogger from The Washington Post writes, "There is something, for lack of a better word, brave in what Phoenix did."

The Los Angeles Times is less impressed, pointing out that the film failed, even as a hoax, considering so few people bothered to see it. In its first weekend of limited release, the film pulled in just over $96,000.

Letterman may have joined the Joaquin hoax for ratings purposes. Once word got out that Joaquin appeared on the show acting strange and looking even stranger then it would definitely be the talk of the town. Plus Letterman knew that he would be watched more closely on his show and become interviewed so that others could get his opinion on Joaquin's behavior. It's called show...BUSINESS.

"In the event, Phoenix swore it was a real documentary despite clear evidence that it was a " screen mocking a narrow mind public."

In this case is that the media have turned the crowd, a radish sheep, in narrow-minded people who are not able to differentiate reality, another reality, a parallel virtual or creating the media loaded of lies and false scenarios.
Despite indications that he was a "mockumentary", nobody was able to think for themselves and realize this.
Michael is using the media at will, but this time the contrary, the news media and makes the copy and paste all the garbage he creates.
